Chapter 234 Wedding Ring
The investigation team did not keep Chen Qing for too long. After verifying the recording and evidence, they sent someone to take her away.
The Yan family's car quietly hid in the shadows at the end of the road. She had just come out of the Imperial Mansion and was taken to the provincial department's car in front of that man. Yan Baiqing had probably received the news and was on his way back.
Chen Qing stood there blankly for a while, feeling cold, and walked over.
The driver was squatting on the side of the road smoking. When he saw her, he threw away his cigarette butt and said, "Ms. Chen, Mr. Yan just entered the city."
"Should we wait for him?"
"Should I take you directly back to the Yan family? At this time, you can't even get into the school dormitory."
Chen Qing didn't reply, but opened the car door and said, "Let's wait for him to come."
The driver responded and stayed beside the car.
She was extremely tired, her head leaning against the car window, her forehead numb and cold. In fact, she did nothing today. After sending Jiang Jingyan out in the morning, she and Sister Qin counted the things at home. In the afternoon, she stayed in the piano room for a while. The Huanghuali erhu that she collected when she was 16 years old was brought by Jiang Jingyan from Zhounan. She took it out, wiped it and checked it, and found two wedding rings in the deepest part of the cabinet.
Chen Qing clutched the collar of her shirt at her chest, her eyes aching, unable to cry or shout. Although everything was completely silent, she could hear her bones breaking and shattering.
Within half an hour, two beams of headlights came from behind the car.
Deep in the pale light and shadow, there was a man who looked dusty, his straight shoulders were damp, and his navy blue suit was shining in the mottled moonlight, making him look noble and dignified.
"Qing'er."
The small shadow in the back row slowly moved and pushed the door open. Yan Baiqing looked into her wet eyes and said in a calm tone, "Why didn't you act without consulting me?"
Chen Qing stared at him, his voice obscure, "Boss of the music store, did you transfer it?"
It was too late at night, and the man's eyes were dim and unclear. "Go home first."
"I have no home." Her voice floated in the air. "The house that Mrs. Luo left for me was found by Mrs. Jiang. She brought people to find me and question me. Mr. Yan, do you know why I have no home?"
Yan Baiqing stood there in a daze, leaning over with one hand on the roof of the car, and leaning in to look at her expression, which was stubborn and pitiful.
He sighed, "Qing'er, I will definitely tell you what you should know. Not letting you know is for your own good."
"Who are you covering up for?"
"I'll take you back to rest, do you want to go?" Yan Baiqing's face was calm, but a chill could be heard in his tone.
Chen Qing couldn't help but shudder. He was angry. This man had a very limited tolerance. He seemed to be giving her a way out, but in fact he was on the verge of impatience.
She slowly moved to the car door and slipped out from under his arm, not touching an inch of his skin except for the hem of her skirt.
Yan Baiqing laughed angrily, followed her and got into his own car.
"I've been gone for less than two days, and you've gotten yourself into trouble." He took off his coat, covered Chen Qing with it, and turned off the reading light. "If you want me to show up, just call me directly from now on."
"You took away the owner of the music store and the evidence against Li Xiangli, wasn't it just to see if I was sincere about cooperating?" Chen Qing turned his head away and said to him, "Mr. Yan, since you want to cooperate, be honest with me."
Yan Baiqing was silent for a few seconds, then laughed out loud, "Are you trying to stop me with my own words?"
She said nothing.
"I'm looking for Li Xiangli." He paused, then revealed the matter to her, "Li Xiangli disappeared on the day you went to the music store."
Chen Qing looked at the neon lights outside the window, which were sometimes hot and sometimes extinguished, and her eyes were also bright and dark. "To be able to disappear from your hands, he must be a very capable person."
Yan Baiqing understood the hidden meaning in her words. He raised his hand and pulled his coat to cover her completely, avoiding answering.
…
The lights in Jiang's house were on all night.
Jiang Jingyan suddenly vomited blood. Mrs. Jiang invited the director of the Armed Police Hospital to treat him at home to ensure that the news would not spread.
She and the nanny took turns to take care of him, and at dawn, Jiang Jingyan woke up.
The director pulled out the needle from the back of his hand and bowed, "Mr. Jiang, how do you feel?"
The man frowned and closed his eyes.
"If you want to cough, you have to cough it out. Don't hold it in. Your pneumonia hasn't fully healed. Coughing is to help you expel the foul air. If you can't expel it, it will clog your heart and lungs, leading to serious illness."
He hummed and stood up.
Tang Xiaoming entered the room at this moment and quickly ran over to support him. "It's still early, rest a little longer. Aunt Jiang just went to bed and she's terrified. If anything happens to you again, I think she'll blow the roof off the house."
Jiang Jingyan sat on the bed for a moment, then picked up his cell phone and went out.
"Where are you going? It's so early in the morning and the roosters haven't even crowed yet!" Tang Xiaoming pinched his waist helplessly and followed.
Jiang Jingyan stayed in the study for the whole morning, locked the door, and did not allow anyone to disturb him.
Lian Zhuo appeared in the courtyard at eleven o'clock. Mrs. Jiang was drinking tea under the flower stand and called him, "Jingyan, what are you busy with?"
"It's Huasheng's job," he replied respectfully. "The board of directors is keeping an eye on it. Mr. Jiang doesn't dare delay."
"Really?" Mrs. Jiang narrowed her eyes and examined it.
Lian Zhuo looked her straight in the eye and gave her a flattering smile. "Don't you know Mr. Jiang yet? Regardless of injury or illness, his work is never affected. Even when things are in turmoil outside, he's always calm and collected, and he doesn't miss a thing."
Mrs. Jiang knew that she could not get anything out of him, so she waved her hand. She knew that Lian Zhuo was tight-lipped and worked beside Jiang Jingyan. If others could get the news by asking around, what would happen?
She understood and was also annoyed. Jiang Jingyan didn't talk to anyone or her after he woke up. She was worried that he was getting stuck in a dead end.
Lian Zhuo went up to the second floor and knocked on the door. "Mr. Jiang, it's me."
After two or three seconds, the door opened from the inside.
The man's sturdy and handsome figure was slightly hunched in the thick white sunlight. He walked to the window and took a breath. "Is it done?"
Lian Zhuo hurriedly opened his briefcase, pulled out the documents, and laid them out one by one. "According to what Li Xiangli's wife said, the Li family pays a five-figure fee to the owner of the piano store every year, in cash. The informants you've been keeping around the Li family haven't noticed. I guess Li Xiangli handed this matter over to someone else."
Jiang Jingyan held a cigarette in his mouth and lowered his eyes. "Wan Lihong said that seven years ago, before Li Xiangli fled, he came to her and mentioned the Chen family case. He said that he was being coerced and had to hide. He was about to flee, just to see his lover, and left these two words."
Lian Zhuo laid out the last document. "As you instructed, I've also investigated Wan Lihong's whereabouts over the years. Every summer vacation at the Children's Palace, she chooses a city to travel to, and she's generally not in the province. This gives her the opportunity and time to remit money."
"She's smart, and perhaps she has some lingering conscience. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been willing to testify after hearing I was speaking up for Chen Qing." Jiang Jingyan coughed softly. "The instrument in the shop owner's hand might not be the real evidence. Wan Lihong refuses to mention it because she hasn't confirmed whether I'm a friend or foe."
Lian Zhuo understood, "Her furniture was left to the neighbors. I'll go search it."
"Um."
Jiang Jingyan left the study, went back to the bedroom, changed into formal clothes, and went downstairs.
The nanny ran into him with the medicine prescribed by the doctor, looking anxious, "Are you going out? The doctor told you to rest!"
He didn't respond and threw the pill into his mouth.
Mrs. Jiang appeared at the stairs, neatly dressed. "Give me a ride, I have something to do."
"Don't you have a car?"
"stop!"
Jiang Jingyan did not stop.
Mrs. Jiang didn't care about her image and grabbed him with brute force, "You are so disrespectful! Why are you so angry with me?"
"Do you really want me to explain?" Jiang Jingyan smiled and spoke in a casual tone, "The elimination of the Meng Party has been kept secret by everyone from the provincial government to my father. Not a word has been leaked to the outside world. How could Chen Qing know what happened when he was staying in the Imperial Palace?"
Mrs. Jiang froze.
"I really thought you loved Qing'er. I shouldn't have let her come to the Jiang family. If you have any compassion as a mother, I won't be disrespectful to you." He said this and left.
