Chapter 249 I Miss Her
Chen Qing's phone was out of battery and turned off. He was about to go to the nurse's station to borrow a charger when he heard a door slam loudly in the corridor.
She shuddered and turned around, and Yan Baiqing's face was so gloomy that it was unbearable to look at.
Chen Qing looked at the bodyguard behind him with a questioning look.
The bodyguard shook his head solemnly and reminded quietly, "He had a quarrel with Mr. Yan."
She suddenly realized that only Yan Weilan could make the usually gentle Yan Baiqing so angry.
The situation was unclear, and Chen Qing didn't dare to run into trouble, so he obediently followed him back to the Yan family.
After the car was turned off, Yan Baiqing lay motionless in the back seat, his face hidden in the interweaving of light and darkness, making it impossible to discern his expression.
"Aren't you getting off the car?" Chen Qing sensed that he was in a bad mood, so he softened his voice and acted understanding. "You've been drinking for two days in a row, your stomach must be feeling uncomfortable. I'll make you some soup."
He laughed out loud, "Would you?"
"Auntie He can help..."
"No need." Yan Baiqing held her hand, inserted his fingers forcefully, and clasped them together. "Qing'er's hands only touch the zither, not Yangchunshui."
The driver observed through the rearview mirror, got out of the car decisively, and went into the courtyard to wait.
There were only two people left in the carriage. Chen Qing's right arm became numb inch by inch, and he couldn't pull it out or escape.
Yan Baiqing rubbed her palms carefully with his fingertips, ignoring the sweat on her palms. "You said that to the teacher. Did you come prepared?"
"What?" Chen Qing was bewildered, his limbs trembling with the dangerous aura surrounding him.
After a long while, she realized, "Was I wrong? But I was telling the truth. I dare not lie in front of Mr. Meng..."
"What about me? Did you lie?"
"No."
Yan Baiqing's eyes were dark, "It counts as concealing it."
"No."
His tone became more serious. "Someone deliberately approached you that night at the auction. Why didn't you mention it?"
Chen Qing was stunned and explained incoherently, "Mr. Jiang sent it away for me. I was afraid that if I mentioned it, you would think too much. And that day, I saw Hua Mei's men around. I knew you sent people to protect me, so I thought nothing would happen... If I mentioned it, it would be like reporting her behind her back, saying that she made a mistake at work..."
Yan Baiqing frowned, "Which subordinate?"
"I don't know him. I only saw him once at Royal Jia International."
Chen Qing was extremely nervous. She could only take a gamble to see whether this rhetoric would work or backfire.
Fortunately, Yan Baiqing did not doubt it and took out his mobile phone to send a message.
"Let's go." He never let go, holding her hand, "Let's go home."
Chen Qing didn't dare to breathe and followed him into the house under the sight of the servants and nanny.
Aunt He, upon hearing the news that they were home, had already cooked some bird's nest and some stomach-warming soup. She came over to greet them, "It's been quite cold today. I was worried that Miss Chen would catch a cold wearing so little."
Yan Baiqing didn't say anything, just washed his hands and sat down.
Chen Qing's heart was still hanging in his throat. He was neither sitting nor standing. He walked along the wall with his head down.
Aunt He carefully brought a blanket and shawl, put them down, and moved away from the living room.
The surroundings were quiet, and the man's heavy breathing hammered at Chen Qing's head.
"Qing'er." Yan Baiqing called her suddenly, "Come here."
Chen Qing took small steps and approached.
"Is it him?"
She raised her eyes, looked at the phone screen, frowned and thought, "It seems so."
Yan Baiqing didn't say anything. He typed the next line of words, put the phone aside, and rubbed his nose. "He failed to protect you. If something like this happens again, contact me immediately."
"You're busy taking office, I can't disturb you."
He looked at her, his eyes bloodshot, strand after strand, "If it's true, it would be great."
Chen Qing lowered his head, and his well-behaved appearance made him soften his heart.
He softened his heart again and again.
"I was in a good mood tonight at Mr. Meng's place." Yan Baiqing pulled out the hem of his shirt, unusually wild and irritable. "Playing chess with father. You rest in the bedroom. When you wake up, I'll take you home."
Chen Qingxin was startled. "Father? You mean—"
She suddenly fell silent and covered her lips with her hands.
Yan Baiqing's eyes were not very clear as he stared at the night outside the French window in front of him. He said with a melancholy tone, "If all this were true, it would be great."
Chen Qing suppressed his surprise and asked softly, "He knows who Li Xiangli is, so does he also know...about my parents?"
"You guessed it a long time ago, Qing'er." Bitterness filled Yan Baiqing's eyes. "Meng Hongwen is the real culprit behind your parents' deaths."
She stumbled back, becoming extremely alert.
Yan Baiqing shifted his gaze to the window again. The strong wind blew the fallen leaves in the courtyard into all directions, out of control in the night.
"Don't worry." He laughed, "I hate him more than you do."
…
Jiang Jingyan stayed up all night at Jiang's house.
The doctor kept him waiting for several days and finally gave him an IV bottle.
Tang Xiaoming lived up to his trust and arrived home at dawn, smelling of alcohol and carrying first-hand information.
The Yan family is far more complicated than he imagined. In fact, Yan Weilan is a very shrewd businessman. He manages the family business in an orderly manner and stands proudly in the business circle. People without some ability really can't do it.
It's just that she was emotional and trusted Meng Hongwen too much. Half of the people mentioned in the ward had shell companies under their names that operated for Zhounan Money House.
Jiang Jingyan sorted out the information and notified Zheng Yuan to go to the field to collect evidence. Only with evidence could he formally interrogate Yan Baiqing's former secretary.
At ten o'clock in the morning, Tang Xiaoming took a shower and leaned against the door frame. "I say, you don't want to live anymore? You stayed up all night with an IV drip. The King of Hell and the ancestors of the Jiang family are fighting in the underworld, sparks flying."
Jiang Jingyan raised his eyelids and said, "Thank you for your hard work."
"What's so hard about it?" Tang Xiaoming casually touched his cigarette case. "My grandfather forced me to get married. I don't have many days left to play around."
"Have you set a date?"
"The end of the month."
Jiang Jingyan glanced at the calendar on the desk and saw that there were less than ten days left.
Old Master Tang saw the only daughter of a real estate tycoon in the city, whose surname was Guan and whose ancestors were of genuine royal blood.
Among all the descendants of the Tang family, some will take over and some will reproduce. Tang Xiaoming also knows that it is inevitable.
"Where are You Meng and the child?" Jiang Jingyan tore off the tape on the back of his hand. The area around the needle hole was blue. "The Guan family can't tolerate an illegitimate child wandering around outside."
"The Guan family won't know."
He remained silent and did not comment much.
Lian Zhuo called and arrived outside the gate.
Jiang Jingyan packed up the folder and went out. "Before the wedding, whatever you want to do, I'll take care of it for you."
"Mr. Jiang is very generous!"
Tang Xiaoming put his arm around his shoulders and walked downstairs. Hearing a few coughs, he became worried. "Don't you want to rest for a few hours? Do you really have someone backing you up?"
Jiang Jingyan's profile looked thin and distinct in the morning sunlight. He walked steadily and spoke very quickly, "I can't wait. I miss her."
