Chapter 275 Afraid of Not Seeing Him
Jiang Jingyan thought a lot on the way south.
Thinking back to his first meeting with Chen Qing, the years passed by like a revolving lantern.
What lingered in her mind the most was the first time Chen Qing went out of the province to participate in a competition. Mrs. Luo was accompanying her on the surface, but she was actually there too. She took the opportunity of a business trip to stop for two hours and just happened to be in the audience to watch her performance, receive the award, and take a photo.
He didn't feel anything when listening to the judges' praise, but only noticed the tiredness hidden under her smiling face.
Mrs. Luo quietly told him the night before that Chen Qing had been depressed, insomniac, and had a poor appetite for several days. She didn't know if it was due to acclimatization or nervousness.
Although Jiang Jingyan didn't spend much time with Chen Qing, he had been the psychologist's "messenger" for more than a year and had a good grasp of her little thoughts.
Chen Qing was quite sensitive to the environment at that time. When she suddenly moved to a new place, her anxiety reached its peak.
But because he was living under someone else's roof, he was very cautious in his life and didn't want to mention it to Mrs. Luo for fear of appearing spoiled. He didn't know how many nights he had spent in confusion.
In the third month after sending Chen Qing to Luo's house, he had the idea of taking Chen Qing back to his side. Lian Zhuo reminded him several times that one was an unmarried man full of vigor and vitality, and the other was a young girl in her prime. It would be inconvenient for them to go in and out, and it would damage Chen Qing's future reputation. Only then did he give up the idea.
Later, Chen Qing went out of the province five times in total, and he was there almost every time, with different reasons each time. He just came to visit her on the way to give her a sense of security.
She was afraid of being homeless and even more afraid of not being able to see him when she was in an unfamiliar environment.
Even if she was in the safe and trustworthy Tang family, she would not be able to eat or sleep well.
At exactly 11 o'clock, Jiang Jingyan arrived at the Tang family's old house.
The grand and square Hui-style courtyard is quiet and elegant in the mist, yet still grand.
The head nurse in the inner courtyard was waiting at the bottom of the stairs to greet him, holding a coat. "I thought you were in a hurry and wore less. It's not like the north here, the climate is damp and cold, don't catch a cold."
Jiang Jingyan's brows were calm. "You are more energetic than you were a few years ago. The south really is nourishing."
This nanny is about the same age as my aunt. She has been taking care of Tang Xiaoming since before they moved here. When they were young, they got into trouble together. Jiang Jingyan took the initiative to take the blame, and he couldn't cover it up, so the nanny helped to keep it secret.
They are in cahoots with each other.
"You're such a snob!" the nanny said with a smile, crossing the threshold and calling out, "Mr. Jiang is here!"
Jiang Jingyan and the servants in the courtyard smiled faintly and nodded. Those who knew him here were relatively older, and they all addressed him according to the old rules, which was less distant than "Mr. Jiang". A few years ago, some people still called him by his nickname, but now they no longer heard it.
"The old man is in the main hall." The head nanny led the way, looking back from time to time. "We have prepared lunch at home. Would you like to stay?"
"No, I have something else to do."
She lamented, "Oh... Then when will you return to the north?"
"You have to leave after seeing the old man."
"So anxious?" The head nanny was surprised and immediately lowered her voice, "Then Miss Chen..."
Jiang Jingyan said nothing and pursed his lips tightly.
She immediately changed the subject.
The Tang family's old house was winding, and the two of them walked for a long time before arriving at the central hall. Old Master Tang, wearing a Zhongshan suit, sat in a royal chair. He raised his eyes and laughed with full energy, "Jing Yan!"
Jiang Jingyan bowed, "Hearing your voice, I feel relieved."
The old man twirled his beard and said, "Why, are you afraid that I'll be pissed off by that bastard and lose a few years of my life?"
"Long live you." Jiang Jingyan took off his coat and sat down. "Your children and grandchildren will have their own blessings. You are not someone who can't see things clearly."
The old man looked at him suspiciously, "A lot calmer."
The head nanny came to serve tea and joked, "You're a father now, how can you not be calm?"
"It's not even the month yet, so stop bringing it up in front of others!" The old man shook his head in dissatisfaction, pushed away the teacup and faced Jiang Jingyan. "You look...how long have you not rested? I know your father is in a delicate situation right now, and the Jiang family is also treading on thin ice, but you have to take care of yourself!"
Jiang Jingyan stroked his cufflinks, lowered his eyes and nodded.
"Miss Chen is here with me, you can rest assured that those people with ulterior motives can't get close to her. I will reunite you two soon."
He paused and pulled out a letter and a document from his briefcase.
The head nanny took it and handed it to the old man.
After seeing the words on the cover clearly, the old man's face changed drastically, "What are you doing!"
"Since you know the situation of the Jiang family, you will understand why I did this."
He dismissed his attendants and confirmed each word with a magnifying glass.
The huge hall was filled with silence.
After a moment, Jiang Jingyan stood up, his face solemn and serious, "If I can't come back to pick up Qing'er, find a suitable time and hand her over to her."
The old man put down the magnifying glass, his eyes cloudy and bloodshot, "Why are you doing this?"
"My father tried his best to deal with the Meng Party. Whether he succeeded or not is not important. What matters is that I know Meng Hongwen. At the last moment, he was determined to drag everyone down with him." Jiang Jingyan was silent for two or three seconds. "He has already taken Yan Weilan hostage. Yan Baiqing will do everything he can to protect him. Even if he can't escape justice, he will find a chance to breathe. If he takes advantage of this opportunity, Qing'er will bear the brunt. This matter is serious, and I have to make plans early."
"You're going to take the bullet? You don't care about your parents or your children?"
Jiang Jingyan's exposed forearms were covered in veins, each one bulging endlessly, and his cheekbones were sore from the tension. "Whatever, I'll try to stay alive."
"Nonsense!" The old man swung the object in his hand, and it fell to the ground with a crackling sound. "You are fighting with a madman to death. You are crazy! Give me back this useless will!"
The head nanny was frightened when she heard the noise outside the door, and the old man had sent everyone away, which made her so anxious that she stamped her feet.
"Calm down, I've written so many suicide notes, and every time I wrote one, it was fine."
The old man sighed silently and ignored it.
That's true. In the military, who wouldn't leave a letter before an important mission? But this time was different. He'd been discharged, and he'd disobeyed orders from above, which was outside of his duties. He couldn't even be considered dead in the line of duty, and his reputation was probably ruined.
"One for flood relief, the other for anti-smuggling." The old man took a sip of tea. "The suicide note was even delivered to Xiao'er, and you ran back from the underworld."
Jiang Jingyan pretended to be relaxed and was about to speak when the old man continued in a heavy tone, "During the days when you were unconscious, Manwei cried so hard that her eyes were almost blind. How old is Chen Qing? What do you want her to do with the child?"
He felt a sharp pain in his heart, which he felt for a long time before smiling and saying, "Can't you say something nice?"
"Forget it, forget it. You've had your own ideas since you were little. Even your father can't necessarily influence your decisions." The old man carefully put away the two things and said, "Before you leave, go see the girl."
