Chapter 92: Raising an Army to Punish

Chapter 92: Raising an Army to Punish

"Don't answer it?"

The man's gaze weighed like a thousand pounds, weighing down Chen Qing so much that he couldn't lift his head. The bitter taste of the strong tea in his mouth lingered on his lips, and the fragrance of tea lingered on his body in his nostrils.

She calmed her breath and said, "The school has accepted a cultural and tourism event in the market. I was just about to tell you that before you came in, I asked my roommate to tell the department head that I couldn't go."

Jiang Jingyan didn't bother to investigate the loopholes in his words. He turned aside and sat down with his arms wide open. "Take it."

Chen Qing touched the screen with his finger and ordered, "Hands-free."

Her hands trembled and she obeyed.

"Qing'er, are you feeling unwell?"

Chen Qing's scalp tingled, "Hmm..."

"I thought you were deliberately avoiding me." Yan Baiqing chuckled. "If you mind my presence, don't worry. This commercial performance is quite high-quality, and the city will give you a reward. I don't want you to miss it."

She glanced to the side.

Jiang Jingyan poured tea slowly and blew away the heat, his half-closed eyes revealing no emotion.

"No." Chen Qing's face flushed red as he lied, and his voice was hoarse. "I have a cold, and I'm afraid it will affect the progress. Mrs. Luo has other arrangements later, so it's easy for the schedule to conflict."

Yan Baiqing didn't ask any more questions, probably because he had other things to do. He told her to take care of herself and hung up in a hurry.

The man in the armchair looked at her and asked lightly, "Are you catching a cold?"

Chen Qing wiped the sweat from his palms on his jeans and didn't reply.

"Why not?"

"I have to go out of province to find you, I don't have time."

"In that case, why don't you tell the truth?"

"If others find out, it will be disadvantageous to you."

Jiang Jingyan narrowed his eyes.

Chen Qing stood aside, not looking at him.

There was silence in the box for two or three minutes, and then he spoke, "Stay away from Yan Baiqing."

"Um."

"What a pity." Jiang Jingyan tapped the armrest with his fingers intermittently, "That performance."

Chen Qing pondered for two or three seconds, "There will be another chance in the future."

She is as dedicated to her profession as any actor who wants to make a name for himself.

This was her main support point after the decline of the Chen family, and Jiang Jingyan knew it clearly.

"As long as you accept performances in this city, and Yan Baiqing is in that position, you will inevitably have interactions with him."

"Then what should I do?" Chen Qing said with a bit of temper, "Should I go back to Zhounan?"

Jiang Jingyan smiled, "You're being nice to Senior Brother, but you're being immoral with me?"

Knowing that he was doing it on purpose, Chen Qing sat down opposite him and gulped down a cup of tea. "I'll just avoid him and not meet him."

"Can he avoid it? Which performance is he not present at?"

She glared, angrily, "Then tell me."

"Did I ask you to avoid him on purpose?" Jiang Jingyan raised his eyelids. "We can do what we should do in formal occasions, but in private, don't interact with him."

"We didn't interact privately."

At the beginning, Yan Baiqing approached her for the sake of the Tao family, but after the matter was over, naturally there was nothing to do with her.

It was just a coincidence that Jiang Jingyan saw it both times.

A good meeting was ruined, Chen Qing looked depressed and kept silent.

Jiang Jingyan finished his tea and called Lian Zhuo in. "Submit a report tonight. I won't be attending the opening ceremony of the summit in three days. Just make up an excuse. Also, we'll close the net tomorrow night. Get everything ready."

"I understand." Lian Zhuo glanced at Chen Qing and said something in a low voice.

Jiang Jingyan was distracted and didn't hear clearly. He frowned impatiently and asked, "Are you hungry?"

Lian Zhuo gritted his teeth and raised his voice, "Your mother got angry at home and scolded Miss Chen. She asked the family to invite her over. She's already on her way to the apartment."

Chen Qing's heart tightened.

Could it be that my meeting with him was discovered and he is being held accountable?

"Because of something."

"The nanny only heard one or two sentences, and it seemed to be about the Yan family."

Jiang Jingyan's brows furrowed even deeper.

He went along with the Washington gang's trick of "expelling" him from the city, and teamed up with his superiors to cast a net. It was a critical moment and he could not show up.

After thinking it over again and again, he made the final decision, "Let her make a fuss. She'll be fine after a few days."

Chen Qing stood up and said, "I'd better go."

"It's obvious they're going to cause trouble for you. Are you going to get scolded?"

"If it's a misunderstanding, it's better to clear it up as soon as possible."

Jiang Jingyan was in a very bad mood.

After finally making some time, he was interrupted repeatedly by irrelevant people, and his displeasure was written all over his face.

Lian Zhuo also disagreed with offending Mrs. Jiang. If he wanted to let Chen Qing enter the Jiang family legitimately in the future, the relationship could not be too strained.

Chen Qing walked up to Jiang Jingyan and touched his knee, "Are you still leaving?"

"You remembered to ask?" Jiang Jing said in a sullen tone, clamping her legs between his knees. "Only one night."

She lowered her head. "A woman can't stay angry overnight. If I leave Madam Jiang alone and then try to make amends later, she'll dislike me even more."

"Do you have to ask her to see you?"

"That's your mother, not someone else."

Chen Qing insisted on going, so Jiang Jingyan had to ask the driver to take her there and ordered him to stay by her side and take her away immediately if Mrs. Jiang did anything out of line.

When I rushed back to the apartment, the people sent by Madame Chiang had been waiting for a long time.

Chen Qing realized that the destination was not Jiang's house. The driver also discovered it and shared the location with Lian Zhuo just in case.

Mrs. Jiang's car stopped at a private restaurant.

It was getting dark, and the speckled lights made the courtyard look lonely and proud.

"Miss Chen, follow me."

Chen Qing got out of the car and followed the man through the corridor into the box.

The lively atmosphere inside suddenly became quiet.

She bowed towards the main seat, "Mrs. Jiang."

Mrs. Jiang hummed, her smile fading a little. "These two are Mrs. Liu and Mrs. Guo."

Chen Qing greeted everyone in turn.

The bank president's wife sat next to Mrs. Jiang on the right. She looked at her with a smile and said, "I heard Miss Chen perform at the charity dinner at the beginning of the year. I was so moved—"

The other lady laughed heartily, "No wonder you've started going to concert halls. President Liu even asked me if you've got a gigolo in the theater."

"I don't blame President Liu for being suspicious." Mrs. Jiang wiped her mouth with a tissue. "Men and women in the theater all want to curry favor with their financial sponsors to provide them with support. One wants fame, the other just to have some fun. It's human nature."

This remark was suggestive, and the two ladies did not dare to respond.

Chen Qing pretended not to understand and just stood there.

After a few jokes, Mrs. Jiang tilted her head slightly and said, "Please sit down."

As soon as my butt touched the chair, the president's wife started a conversation, "Miss Chen hasn't graduated yet, has she?"

"No, summer vacation is over and it's time for my junior year."

"What a wonderful age, and how beautiful she is. No wonder Master Yan is so vulgar."

Chen Qing was shocked.

How did it get to Yan Baiqing?

Mrs. Jiang's expression was indifferent. "Mrs. Liu made a friend at the theater. In the past two days, a group of photos have been circulating inside the theater."

Her eyes were sharp, "So Bai Qing and you have such a good relationship."
