Day 5 of customs clearance
After the consultation, Adrian lay in bed for a long time before finally realizing that relying on the game company was neither a future nor realistic. Lighting up character cards was necessary to unlock the faction's main storyline, but faction battles usually don't happen in the mid-to-late game. Why is this game so unsociable?
Joining a camp hastily without understanding anything?
Adrian sighed, "It's too hasty. If you can't light up character cards, you can't choose a faction; if you can't choose a faction, you can't start the main storyline; if you can't start the main storyline, what's the point of the game? I don't understand game design."
When asked to say that he was playing a single-player game with no teammates, no friends, and no strategy guides, Adrian felt a wave of dizziness. He was afraid that he would die alone in the game, even though he wasn't used to making friends.
He continues to transform into Emo Man, turning over and over again.
The cardboard beneath him was damp and rotting, hard and filled with a nauseating stench that could kill a person. It felt as if he himself was rotting away with the cardboard and weed roots, dying in some deserted place. Adrian turned down the olfactory settings that had been raised. This was bad.
The brain said he should actively negotiate with NPCs, gather information, and if he wanted to start the main quest, he should do so; if he didn't want to, he should go on a leisurely trip. In short, he couldn't just lie around doing nothing.
But he just wouldn't move his body.
Adrian took a deep breath. One cannot, or at least should not, give up.
No!
He's really depraved.
The time he was wasting in the game made him seem like he had some serious illness. Adrian rolled over on the ground. It was so boring to be with his phone at night. He couldn't fall asleep even with his eyes wide open.
Why isn't there even an NPC?
Isn't it the NPCs who come to provide clues?!
Adrian muttered to himself, unsure which step he had gone wrong with...
He felt it was the game company's fault, which led to their predicament without their knowledge. He wanted to know if the real solution lay in the single-player system, and the only way forward was to unlock the character cards.
My head hurts so much, is he starting to grow a brain?
Adrian slapped his forehead and turned to delve into the game forum, as it was the only place that could quickly provide insights into the specific background of a game.
At this time, the moon was dim and there were no stars. It was pitch black under the bridge, with only a long object lying in the corner. If someone went up to check, they might think he was dead, without breathing or heartbeat.
After a long while, Adrian selectively typed "Batman" into his search bar. "Let's get down to business," he urged himself. The six small dots seemed to spin for what felt like an eternity. Before Adrian could even grow impatient, the keyword search returned results.
When it comes to highlighting individuals, the power of the people is still the most effective.
He no longer felt envious of players whose situations were worlds apart from his own.
Look what he discovered! Before long, players were posting the message Adrian wanted. Previously, the comments were full of praise for the game's realistic models, but now there were even character clues!
[1L (Original Poster): Frog Fun family, look what I found! This tragic accident in the game has turned virtual reality into a magical tale, a game version of urban legend - Batman.]
2L: What kind of hero? Don't be so funny, it's like you're completely immersed in chuunibyou (adolescent delusions of grandeur) and can't pull yourself out. *smirks*
3L (OP): Shut up, listen to me. It all started with a banquet. You know, banquets like this are always late, and the first guests are heirs of some high-society conglomerate. I have status, wealth, and power, so attending this banquet is perfectly reasonable, right? But you'd never guess:
I (the system's identity) am actually colluding with Gotham's criminal underworld! Even worse, someone is threatening my game identity!!
The clues have arrived, haven't they? With the clues here, how far away can the main storyline be?
4L: Hurry up and tell me not to stop! I'm in a hurry!! (urging emoji)
5L: Yes, yes, yes, stop keeping me in suspense, OP! Do you expect me to kneel down at your door and beg you?!
6L (Original Poster): ...Do you know what? I died ten times! Ten times!!
This is heartbreaking to hear and tearful to see. It serves as a warning to everyone: always be mindful of your role and position, or you'll end up like the original poster, betrayed by subordinates, rivals, and collaborators! (Yellow card warning image)
Oops, I meant to talk about Batman.
To summarize, I saw Batman at the banquet, and that's when I realized what a good game could be if it could make me die ten times at the start!
First came the alleged accident at a Gotham-themed banquet, then the Gotham-specific Bat Vigilantes, led by Batman himself—
—That legendary man could also be a monster (the poster, like most Gotham NPCs, believes Batman is not human and is more inclined to think he is a bat-monster).
7L: The legendary man, hehe~
8L: If it's not human, then it's even more delicious. Maybe it's a vampire. *drooling emoji*
9L: Upstairs, don't be too hungry. (Shocked emoji)
...
23L (Original Poster): As I mentioned before, my identity is problematic. If the game is divided into two sides, good and evil, I am probably the most evil and the most villainous.
Do you understand what biochemical experiments and the buying and selling of body parts are? I'm being very subtle to avoid getting this post banned.
24L: I understand, I understand, and then what? (Starry-eyed emoji)
25L (OP): Don't rush me, here comes the important part. A banquet was going well, and can you imagine, a dozen masked robbers with guns rushed in and started banging on the crystal chandelier. Everyone was terrified. They robbed us of our money and tried to kill us. I almost had to restart the event.
Even more terrifying, shortly after the smoke and tear gas were deployed, bat monsters appeared.
Good heavens, that's a bat monster!
Standing two meters tall with an imposing aura, he dispatched the robbers with just two powerful punches. The terrorists who had been swaggering and threatening everyone's lives and property were all down. I could clearly hear the sound of bones breaking. Several ambulances arrived afterward...
26L: OP, you're really exciting! The question is, why are there bat monsters in a modern setting?
27L (Original Poster): Waaah, you guys don't know, after finally the banquet ended and I managed to get out of there with my hands and feet intact, haha, I ran into the bat monster again.
Yes, it was Batman who hung me, a weak, pitiful, and helpless player, on the rooftop.
The grass (a type of plant) kept pressing me about my relationship with Black Mask. How would I, a player who had only been in the position for a few hours, know?
I got two punches from Bang Bang that almost sent me to meet my great-grandmother!
... (Various insults and venting)
27L: I feel sorry for the original poster. You got a taste of the NPC's iron fist right away. How unfortunate and pitiful. I'm definitely not gloating. *smirks*
27L: Don't rub salt into the wound, the poster didn't mean it either, lol. But is the bat monster even human?
28L (Original Poster): Enough already!! (Angry and aggrieved emoji)
Reply to 27L: I guess you can see for yourself above.
29L: Pat pat, don't be sad, OP. Try harder next time and don't get caught by the NPCs.
30L (Original Poster): It's okay, it's not that bad. I still gained something, like Bruce Wayne.
You wouldn't believe how sweet he is! He speaks so sweetly, always has a smile, and is such a great person. He's the only one out of a group of old orange peels who were giving me trouble who came to my rescue. If he weren't a guy, I would have wanted to pursue him. *sound of excitement*
31L: Bruce Wayne? I think I've heard that name before. He seems to be the biggest boss in my game.
32L: Oh, a capitalist, at least that sounds like a normal capitalist. Unlike me, my boss is called Penguin Man, and he's about to send me out as cannon fodder. I don't even know how to avoid the plot kill. Anyway, I'm dying over and over again. I'm so hopeless.jpg
33L: You're overestimating him as a normal capitalist. According to his colleagues, Bwein doesn't come to the company for ten days or half a month, but you can always see his romantic affairs and his girlfriends who are constantly dumped in the tabloids.
...I've seen his photos and I highly praise your taste. His smile is incredibly charming. Everyone who's seen him says he's great. Thumbs up!
34L: A girlfriend dumped by the sky?! Why can't the world have one more rich person like me? I hate it!!
35L: Don't be jealous, he's Wayne, the one who owns most of Gotham, the one who supports Gotham's economy...
Ugh! I can't go on, it's so sour, I'm practically a lemon.
36L: Hey hey hey, let me see, Bwein? So it's Bwein who's having an affair with Batman. Even Batman couldn't escape the charm of the Gotham prince, what are you all jealous of?
If you've ever met Bryant, you'd probably be kneeling down even faster than Batman. He's a gold digger, the kind that's adorned with gold and diamonds. He's handsome, naive, and rich, spending money like water. The women he sets his sights on... wow, I envy them all for the breakup fees they receive.
37L: Isn't that what "stupid and fast" means? It makes me want to try it too. I don't ask for any genuine feelings, just to have enough to eat and drink. This is a sincere plea from a plumber. (doge emoji)
38L (OP): Pshaw, what a bunch of idiots! Wayne isn't an idiot! He just wanted to give the beauties a home. You're all just jealous, a bunch of cockroaches hiding in the shadows, disgusting.
39L: Why are you resorting to personal attacks? So what if I don't like Wayne? I think Stark's honey-like eyes are the real deal.
40L (Original Poster): You have no class. A wild boar can't eat fine bran...
41L: Mining can't even find pure divine gold like yours, so I helped you out this time, and you actually fawned over me?
...
There's no need to read any further. Adrian closed the system forum panel. He knew there was a kind of magical creature called a "toxic fangirl," and the original poster had already fallen for it.
Is Bwein really that charismatic?
Adrian showed little emotion or sentimentality, but Wayne and Batman? He became somewhat serious.
Batman is mysterious.
Before long, Adrian's ears twitched. Was the plot about to unfold? He held his breath and listened carefully to the conversation that was coming closer and closer.
"Boss, is this really going to work? What if the explosives on the bridge pier blow up? And what if Batman finds us?"
The thug swallowed hard in exasperation; having experienced Batman's iron fist once, no one wanted to go through it again.
"Shut up, keep it a secret, keep it a secret, keep it a secret! How many times have I told you not to reveal secrets to outsiders? You want to die?!"
The eldest brother carried the explosives, and veins bulged on his forehead.
“Boss, I’m scared. I don’t want to be in the ICU at Wayne Charity Hospital, let alone spend two months in a sling with my arms and legs in a sling, without any dignity,” the thug said dejectedly, tears welling up in his eyes as he thought of the last time he was beaten into the ICU.
It's not that he was cowardly; the enemy was simply too terrifying.
"You want to quit?" The boss turned around sharply and said coldly, "It's too late to turn back now. Be careful the Joker kills you. Think about your loans and your debts. If you don't want to do it, go jump into the Gotham River. You won't have to pay for your funeral."
"How could I not want to do it? It's my honor to contribute to Boss Joker's great cause," the thug said with a long face. If he could refuse, he would just quit.
Adrian lay on the ground, blending into the darkness, when he unexpectedly gained information about another character—the Joker.
This doesn't sound good. Based on the information he has, Batman is a good guy, so the Joker must be the villain. He also thought of the character he had already identified, Arkham Knight. Is his attribute good, evil, or neutral?
As Adrian pondered, the two NPCs who were still talking and delivering the plot fell silent. He thought of something like a dark and stormy night or some urban legend...
Damn it, I can't think about it.
Adrian pressed his palate against his chest, his face a mixture of frustration and weakness.
The two thuds, occurring within three seconds of each other, terrified Adrian even more. What kind of ability could make two thugs fall down without any reaction?
The moonlight dispelled the clouds, and Adrian's retina was left with only the huge, pointed black shadow on the ground, which vanished in the blink of an eye, as if it were an illusion.
But no.
Adrian knew for certain that someone had been there.
The system panel now displays the second character – Batman.
