Master Shi thought Lin Hai's words were quite good, so he said, "It's good enough to have Lin Bantou say that. However, right now, there are only Zhen'er and I in the school, and that's enough for the children. I'm afraid we won't be able to handle more students in the future. Since Lin Bantou is only half a year younger than Zhen'er, can he come and help with the teaching, so as to set an example?"
"Well, it's not that I can't go, but I'm busy with work, so I'm afraid I can't go every day. Ten days a month at most." Lin Hai would not refuse this.
"Of course. We shouldn't have troubled Captain Lin any more."
"I don't understand poetry or classics, so the most I can do is teach them to read."
"Only a few people can pass the imperial examinations, while the rest of us just learn to read and do math."
"Okay then. I'll go to the school dormitory once the next batch of students arrives."
Master Shi bowed and said, "Thank you very much, Captain Lin." Then he turned around and walked straight out of the county government office.
Seeing Master Shi leave, Lin Hai suddenly remembered and quickly turned around and said, "Come out, your father is gone, he probably won't blame you."
After saying that, Shi Zhen'er poked her head out from the back hall, looked left and right, and after making sure Master Shi was far away, she stuck out her tongue and walked out, saying, "I just find it really boring to be in the dormitory all day, either looking at my father or those kids. And my father keeps telling me to be quiet and practice needlework... You don't know, sitting there quietly practicing needlework all day without saying a word is simply not a life for a human being."
"Oh? If that's not the way people should live, then what is the way to live?" Lin Hai asked seriously.
"Do you know how my father, who was so weak that he could barely even tie a chicken, managed to survive in the forest?" Shi Zhen'er asked back.
"Aren't we all from the same village, respecting scholars and not giving your father too much trouble?"
"Hmph, if that's the case, there must have been more than one teacher in and outside the county before the Khmer people came to kill us." After Shi Zhen'er finished speaking, she took out a stone from her sleeve and threw it casually. With a "bang", the stone passed through the hollow below the oil lamp on the lampstand and hit the pillar that had just been erected in the county government office. The stone, which was slightly larger than a broad bean, sank into the pillar, shocking Lin Hai so much that he took a breath.
"Next time you go out to fight, call me. I might be able to save your life." After saying that, Shi Zhen'er skipped out. When she reached the door, she turned around and said in a voice no louder than a mosquito: "Thank you for speaking up for me. I will definitely reward you handsomely."
Leaving behind was a confused Lin Hai.
Outside the county government hall, at the base of the wall.
Wang Liang: "They can be considered a scholarly family, they are of similar age, have a clean background, and they have this unique skill. I think it's okay."
All sworn brothers nodded in unison.
Yin San: "I don't know what Xiao Linzi means yet. I think Xiao Linzi doesn't know the good of women yet. How about we give him that flowery dress first and try it out?"
Wang Liang: "Don't give me such bad advice. It's not like we haven't figured out who that person in the flowery clothes is. Don't let him humiliate Xiao Linzi."
Yin San: "In that case, I think I can be abused by the flowery clothes. If you want to send me there, or if you are worried about me, I can go to the prison."
Brothers: "Get out of here."
