Lu You was actually in the village and didn't go anywhere.
A former enemy nation suddenly sent an envoy to Daliang's territory, yet instead of contacting Daliang officials, they came after him, a bandit leader. It was obvious that this was not normal. The fact was, when this middle-aged envoy named Xin Yuetu entered his village, he could smell the scent of conspiracy in the air.
Lin Hai quickly arrived at the village. After talking with Lu You, Lu You quietly left the village and took the team to find a mountain king nearby to kill him. After all, the show had to be complete. As for Lin Hai, he changed his clothes, took three bowls of rice, and went to deliver lunch to Xin Yuetu.
"Mr. Envoy, your lunch is here." Lin Hai knocked on the door gently. He was sure that Xin Yuetu was in the room.
"Oh, it's lunch time. Come on, come in." Xin Yue was suddenly more enthusiastic than the legend said. Lin Hai even had a strange thought: "Is this guy just here to eat for free?"
Lin Hai pushed open the door and met the legendary envoy representing the Khmer government.
Xinyuetu was about thirty years old and had the surname "Xinyue," a Khmer royal family name. He seemed to hold a high position in Khmer. But upon closer inspection, Lin Hai discovered that while Xinyuetu was dressed rather elegantly, his demeanor lacked the air of nobility. In his past life, Lin Hai had met many wealthy, powerful, and influential people. Regardless of their attitude toward ordinary people, the moment they met, one could sense they were from a different world. This was perhaps the legendary nobility.
As for this promise, if you took away his silk clothes that looked quite valuable, even Lin Hai would believe him if you said he was a worker in Wang Liang's blacksmith shop.
A man, about thirty years old, seven feet tall, with a square face, a beard, and a righteous look. With this appearance, he would be valued in any government unit, not to mention that his surname is Xin. However, this man has quite a few wrinkles around his eyes despite his young age. Lin Hai originally thought that this was caused by overthinking, but he found that his hairline was quite complete and his hair was thick. It can be imagined that the wrinkles were not caused by excessive use of the brain. In addition, this man actually took the plate with his hands instead of waiting for Lin Hai to put the plate on the table. It can be seen that this person is not used to being served on a daily basis. He does not have a high status when dealing with people. In addition, there are quite a few calluses on his hands, and he must have done heavy work.
Therefore, Lin Hai concluded that this person was either an imposter or someone who was not valued in the Khmer royal family, so he was thrown into such a place to chat and play with bandits.
Yet, this man should not be underestimated. Any ordinary envoy, sensing Lu You's presence within the village but unwilling to meet him, would have been furious and even stormed out. Yet, this man cheerfully chatted with others daily, his questions seemingly harmless, yet, taken together, he possessed a thorough understanding of the village's situation. Furthermore, the fact that he arrived on foot, carrying only a bag, without a horse or guards, suggested that he was not only able to endure hardships but also possessed considerable martial arts skills. Otherwise, he would have likely been ensnared by some inconsiderate mountain king along the way.
"Oh, today's lunch is quite sumptuous." Xin Yuetu didn't care about Lin Hai's obvious scrutiny, but was more concerned about the lunch dishes.
"The mountain stronghold is not rich in products, even barren, but we cannot neglect our distinguished guests. When you arrived, we flew to report to our king. Although the king was busy with military duties and had no time to spare, he also ordered us to entertain you well. So, this morning, my brothers went out to hunt some game and fish. It's a bit simple, I hope you don't mind, my lord envoy."
Lin Hai quickly explained.
"It's already very sumptuous. I bet such a meal isn't something you get often in the village. Have you eaten yet? If not, let's eat together. I can't finish all this by myself anyway, and it wouldn't be nice to waste it."
Hey...
It was the first time Lin Hai had ever seen someone treat him with something that belonged to him. But that was fine. He had wanted to stay here anyway to get some information, so this was an excuse, wasn't it?
Lin Hai looked at the chicken in the bowl and swallowed his saliva. This was not an act. He had been busy with the steel mill recently, and often a meal consisted of just a piece of bread. It had been a long time since he had eaten anything oily. Now looking at the chicken, he naturally didn't want to miss it. So he took advantage of the situation and quickly bowed and said, "How can this be so embarrassing? My king said that this is specially prepared for the envoy."
Lin Hai sat down as he spoke, reached out and broke off a chicken leg from the stew, stuffed it into his mouth, and said vaguely: "But the king also asked us to obey the envoy. Since the envoy has invited us so kindly, I will respectfully obey your orders."
This surprised Xin Yuetu. He acted very familiarly, and most people would feel uncomfortable. Who knew that someone even more familiar and shameless would come? It seemed that this person was not an ordinary servant, otherwise how could he be so bold.
Xin Yuetu didn't hesitate to pick up a bowl of rice, put half a fish on the rice and started eating. While eating, he praised the chef in the village for his good cooking skills, which were not inferior to those of the chefs in the restaurants in the city.
"Little brother looks very impressive. I wonder what position you hold under your king?" After swallowing half a fish, Xin Yue suddenly picked up a fishbone subconsciously and started picking his teeth, and suddenly asked Lin Hai.
"We're just a village, there's no such thing as a position. I'm just a handyman. It's just that my king thinks I'm quite smart, so he lets me do the daily things like entertaining guests and so on."
"He's a close minister. My little brother, at such a young age, your king has placed such high hopes on him. His future is limitless, limitless."
