Chapter 51 Review and Report

In the newly renovated office of the county government, Wang Zuo was reporting the situation in Cambodia to Lin Hai.

...

"Principal, the above is the specific situation of the Khmer incident. This is Jiang Ping's report, which he wrote overnight after finishing his work and sent back via a special line. Attached at the end is the review summary of the intelligence department. Would you like to take a look at it first?" Wang Zuo pointed to a thick report on Lin Hai's desk. It was placed on the desk when he came in, but Lin Hai didn't move it. He just said that he wanted to listen to his report.

Lin Hai glanced at Wang Zuo and reached for the report. As soon as his hand touched the report, Wang Zuo quickly put his left foot down. After all, he had been standing on one leg for nearly half an hour and was almost exhausted. This was the rule Lin Hai had taught them when he first taught them. If anyone got into trouble, they had to write a self-criticism and report it. They had to stand on one leg throughout the report. Only when Lin Hai looked at the self-criticism could they be freed from the state of standing on one leg.

Wang Zuo silently turned the leg that was about to become stiff, and then quickly changed legs to relax the one that had been on the ground. Lin Hai did not pay attention to his movements, but quickly browsed Jiang Ping's report.

"The Cambodia incident itself was caused by my personal misjudgment and poor command, and I should bear full responsibility."

"Judging from the cause of the incident, the pressure from various countries on local officials is intensifying, which gives us ample room for maneuver. Prefect Meng Yang's irrational behavior this time was largely intended to satisfy the royal family's needs, especially in terms of war resources."

"But from the attitude of Prefect Mengyang, we can see that Cambodian officials at all levels treat us with contempt, even disdain, and generally believe that the status of Qitian Village is not enough to have an equal dialogue with them."

"The capabilities of the local action teams generally fall short of expectations. Despite clear instructions to operate covertly, the incident ultimately became public knowledge. I suggest that headquarters strengthen the training of the new batch of action personnel."

"Regarding the future plans of the Cambodian branch, all current work is planned to revolve around Nguyen Shiping, the Co-governor of Mengyang. In the short term, Nguyen Shiping's power will be strengthened, allowing him to openly control Mengyang. Furthermore, we will strive to enable him to bargain with the Cambodian royal family in Mengyang once the entire incident is exposed. We will use practical benefits to force the Cambodian royal family to recognize the established facts, laying the foundation for subsequent plans."

“Given the importance of the Khmer direction, it is recommended that headquarters increase its investment in the Khmer direction, especially trained intelligence personnel and more elite operatives, and replenish the Khmer branch with high-quality glass products.”

"During this incident, Wang Wu, the head of intelligence analysis for the Cambodian branch, made important contributions. I am now reporting his achievements to headquarters and hope they will commend him."

Then a piece of white paper was pasted behind Appendix 4. Judging from the marks of glue that had not yet completely dried, it should have been pasted there before Wang Zuo came in. Lin Hai turned it over and found three big characters written on it in a flamboyant style: "I was wrong." Well, judging from the writing style and the ink that had not yet completely dried, it should have been written there before Wang Zuo came in.

"So these three words are the so-called intelligence department's review summary and your self-criticism?" Lin Hai had the urge to stuff the entire report into Wang Zuo's mouth.

"If this is how the intelligence department works, then I'll give you a new task. Choose a good-looking brick and go to Mandalay alone to assassinate the Khmer king. If you succeed, I can pretend that this incident never happened." Lin Hai's face was extremely ugly. If he had a handy weapon in his hand, he would definitely beat Wang Zuo up.

"Where's this stick I left here?" Lin Hai turned and glared at Ling Yang, who was taking notes behind him. Ling Yang was also his student, but he was very experienced in record-keeping and data compilation, so Lin Hai didn't want to let him go and kept him by his side as a secretary.

"Principal, you forgot. This morning you said you wanted to exercise, and you practiced stick techniques in the yard outside. I guess you took it out at that time and forgot to bring it back." Ling Yang stood up, seemed to recall something, and then answered carefully.

Lin Hai looked at Ling Yang and had completely forgotten when he was supposed to exercise in the morning or when he learned the stick technique. Speaking of which, he did know one kind of stick technique, but he had never used it since he traveled through time... Bah, bah, bah, he was thinking too much.

Lin Hai, who was distracted by Ling Yang's words, naturally did not notice Wang Zuo giving Ling Yang a thumbs up.

"Well then," Lin Hai said, "since you can't find it, forget it. Go find me another one later, but wrap one end in two layers of iron and put my mark on it to prevent it from being taken by mistake. Then on your way back, take a detour to the Intelligence Department and give him five good beatings with the stick to let him know that he deserves punishment for his mistakes."

"Yes." Ling Yang seemed particularly well-behaved.

"Principal, five hits with the iron stick. You know how strong Ling Yang is. He could always get the first spot when serving food. Those soldiers couldn't compare to him. After five hits, I'm afraid I won't be able to walk properly." Now Wang Zuo has become the person with the ugliest face in the office.

"Well, yes, I know. And I also know that if I didn't do it myself and he hit you, you would definitely not accept it. So I allowed you to use that stick to hit him back five times after you were beaten, so that he would know what his duty is. Does that mean I can't punish you if he hides the stick?"
