Chapter 16 Friends

Ji Mian lowered his head and tried hard to erase his homework book with an eraser, pretending nothing had happened.

He couldn't help but complain in his heart, thinking, does the boss walk without making any sound? When did he come?

Fu Chenyu sat back in his seat with a cold face. Ji Mian rubbed his eyes after using the eraser.

The bell rang for class. Su Luoyu wiped away her tears and sat upright looking at the blackboard.

The first class was taught by their Chinese teacher, Mr. Shi, who was also the head teacher of Class 311 and would teach them until the sixth grade in the future.

Teacher Shi said, "Students, open the synchronized exercises now. Today we will be reading 'Looking Back at the Corner' in class. Please check each other's synchronized exercises. If you haven't done anything, please stand up and listen to the class."

Su Luoyu has been on leave for the past few days. The Chinese language synchronous training was his homework yesterday, and now his textbook is blank.

He, who had always been a good student, blushed and stammered, "Fu Chenyu, have you written it?"

Fu Chenyu's synchronous training is written neatly and his handwriting is beautiful.

Su Luoyu asked, "Can I read a book with you?"

Fu Chenyu glanced at him indifferently, and the scene of Ji Mian handing him the paper emerged in his mind. He felt annoyed and angry. As soon as Su Luoyu opened his mouth, he pulled his "Synchronous Training" towards himself and completely rejected him.

Su Luoyu's face turned even redder. He didn't expect Fu Chenyu to reject him so decisively.

They have been desk mates for three years!

But Fu Chenyu remained the same, cold and indifferent, ignoring everyone.

Su Luoyu's eyes turned red with grievance. When she thought of Ji Mian, she still felt that Ji Mian was better.

As autumn arrives, the sweet fragrance of osmanthus fills the air outside the window, and large patches of golden color bloom on the trees.

Ji Mian was sitting next to the window and felt a little uncomfortable in his eyes. He rubbed them and continued doing his homework.

Before the get out of class ended, Teacher Shi reminded the students to prevent conjunctivitis. She heard that a child in the second grade had conjunctivitis and his eyes looked terrible.

For primary school students, apart from playing games during recess, they gather together to talk about gossip.

The legend of conjunctivitis quietly spread in Liming Primary School.

By the time school was over, pinkeye had become one of the most dreaded illnesses.

He Xi shuddered with fear and turned to tell Ji Mian, "They say pink eye can be transmitted just by looking at someone! How scary..."

Ji Mian muttered, "It's not that scary."

He didn't want to bother with elementary school students who had no common sense.

He Xi patted his chest and said in horror: "The second grade is just downstairs from us. Do you think I accidentally made eye contact with that pink-eyed guy when I went downstairs?"

Ji Mian was doing his mental arithmetic exercises and rubbed his eyes again. The pollen from the osmanthus flowers outside the window made him a little allergic.

"No." Ji Mian sneezed: "A-choo!"

Lin Minzhi thought Ji Mian had a cold. When he returned home, she gave him Isatis root for several days, but he still didn't get better.

As the sweet osmanthus flowers in the streets and alleys of Tongcheng East District were in full bloom, a rain of flowers could fall on the road when you walked, and Ji Mian's "cold" became more and more serious.

Until one day at noon, after a nap, Ji Mian rubbed his eyes and sat up in a daze.

Chen Ping was collecting homework one by one. When she came to Ji Mian, she saw Ji Mian's eyes and suddenly screamed, "Ah!"

The girl's voice was so sharp that it woke up the whole class.

"Chen Ping, what's wrong with you?" Kang Jun said.

Chen Ping pointed at Ji Mian in panic: "Ji Mian has pink eye!"

She suddenly realized something and closed her eyes abruptly: "Help! I just made eye contact with Ji Mian!"

Ji Mian, who had just woken up, was confused. Before he could react, the class was in an uproar.

"What! Let me see! Ji Mian's eyes are so red!"

"Oh Bi, you're still looking at his eyes, pink eye is contagious!"

"Quick, quick, everyone close your eyes!"

"Listen to me, stay away from Ji Mian, everyone run out!"

In an instant, everyone stood up from their seats and ran out in panic.

Su Luoyu hesitated for a moment, then remembered the terrifying nature of the legendary conjunctivitis, and decided to follow her classmates out.

He secretly made up his mind that after Ji Mian recovered from his illness, he would become good friends with Ji Mian.

Everyone's attitude towards Ji Mian was as if he had seen a ghost. Ji Mian currently only had the mindset of a junior high school student. Faced with the alienation from the whole class, he was suddenly unable to adapt and felt aggrieved.

In addition, his eyes were allergic, and he rubbed them with his hands until they were red and tearful, making him look very pitiful.

"I don't have conjunctivitis..." Ji Mian tried to refute. He knew that his symptoms had nothing to do with conjunctivitis. As he was speaking, his eyes became terribly itchy again.

He clenched his hands into small fists and rubbed his eyes hard, tears streaming down his face. They were not his tears, but physiological tears.

But in the eyes of others, he was like a child crying in grievance after being isolated by the whole class.

The more Ji Mian rubbed his eyes, the more itchy they became. The more itchy they became, the more he couldn't stop, and his eyes became even redder.

Until his wrists were pinched by a pair of cold hands, and Ji Mian's hands were forcibly pried off.

Through tearful eyes, he saw Fu Chenyu standing in front of him with a serious face.

The classroom was empty, everyone had left long ago, and only Fu Chenyu stayed with him.

The two stood very close to each other. They had never stood so close since that snowy night.

Although he knew that he did not have conjunctivitis, Ji Mian was afraid that Fu Chenyu did not know.

He quickly closed his eyes, lest the boss think that he had a "terminal illness" and was plotting something bad against him, trying to drag him into misfortune with him.

As a small cannon fodder, I still have some awareness of the need to survive!

Fu Chenyu held his hand regardless, and ordered coldly and urgently: "Open your eyes."

Ji Mian's eyelashes trembled violently, and the little tears hanging on them kept sliding down.

Fu Chenyu repeated: "Open your eyes, Ji Mian!"

Ji Mian refused to open his eyes, and in a panic he said, "This is pink eye, it's contagious."

Fu Chenyu replied hastily almost as soon as he finished speaking: "I'm not afraid."

Ji Mian was stunned for a moment, his eyelashes stopped trembling, and he slowly opened his eyes, with the corners of his eyes raised, and his round cat eyes looked at him.

Fu Chenyu took a closer look and saw that only Ji Mian's eye sockets were rubbed red. The bloodshot eyes were due to inflammation, not conjunctivitis. He breathed a sigh of relief.

At this moment, Ji Mian's eyes only reflected his own shadow, as if he was the only one in his world.

Fu Chenyu held Ji Mian's chubby face in his hands, which felt soft. He felt a strange feeling in his heart, sour and swollen.

When Lin Minzhi received the news and rushed to the school, Ji Mian was already sitting obediently in the office.

After going to the hospital for a long examination, we found out that it was a false alarm. It turned out that Ji Mian was allergic to osmanthus and the attack occurred during the autumn season.

In the next few days, Ji Mian wore small black sunglasses and a white mask, almost fully armed.

But many people in the school still spread the rumor that he had conjunctivitis and were afraid to look him in the eye.

Ji Mian sat alone in his seat waiting for school to end. When the beautiful bell rang, all the classmates packed their bags and lined up at the door.

Students in every class of Liming Primary School have to line up at the classroom door before school is over and can only leave after they reach the school gate.

Ji Mian was preoccupied today, so he walked slowly, looking around as he walked, but he couldn't find Fu Chenyu, whom he was looking for.

Ji Mian felt a little grateful for Fu Chenyu's decision to stay a few days ago. After all, Fu Chenyu didn't know that he didn't have pink eye, and he was willing to stay with him under such a dangerous situation. This showed that the boss was still nostalgic and at least had not forgotten the friendship they had in kindergarten.

Ji Mian always repays favors, and today he wants to find Fu Chenyu to say "thank you".

It was not until he walked to the small flower bed two hundred meters away from the school that he saw Fu Chenyu.

And Fu Chenyu's condition is not good. He is fighting with two boys, and it seems that Fu Chenyu is beating others unilaterally.

The two primary school students in school uniforms were beaten so hard that they screamed and cried loudly:

"It's pink eye! Why can't I tell you?"

"Pink eye is just scary! It's just disgusting!"

"I didn't say anything about you! It's none of your business! Why did you hit us?!"

"Wuwuwuwuwu, you're dead! I'm going to tell the teacher!"

"Ouch—I'm sorry! Stop hitting me! It hurts so much!"

Fu Chenyu withdrew his hand, stood up and saw Ji Mian.

The two children took advantage of his distraction and ran away without noticing, grabbing their schoolbags and crawling away.

Ji Mian opened his mouth, his heart pounding like thunder. The screen was full of comments: It’s over, it’s over. I saw the boss beating someone, so I won’t be held responsible, right?

Fu Chenyu didn't say anything. He picked up the schoolbag on the ground and dusted it off.

Ji Mian saw a bloody wound on the side of his face, as if it was caused by a fingernail.

He immediately thought of Fu Chenyu's decision to stay with him, and hesitated: Maybe Fu Chenyu wasn't that fierce, or maybe... he didn't hate him that much? Well, Fu Chenyu had always been cold and indifferent to him, and it was hard to tell whether he liked him or not.

Fu Chenyu put on his schoolbag and turned to leave. Ji Mian quickly took steps to catch up with him, his little baby voice anxiously saying, "Fu Chenyu!"

Fu Chenyu paused for a moment, but didn't stop. However, he walked much slower.

Ji Mian grabbed his arm and said sincerely: "Fu Chenyu, your face is injured."

Fu Chenyu ignored him, and Ji Mian used his classmates' love and mustered up the courage to say, "I have a band-aid. I'll put it on you."

The final result was that a white rabbit band-aid was stuck on Fu Chenyu's expressionless, pale and handsome face.

Ji Mian didn't forget that he came to thank Fu Chenyu. He took out his pocket money and stood in front of the cake shop, saying crisply, "Auntie, I want this umbrella cake."

Ji Mian likes to eat sweet things, but his pocket money is limited. He usually has to save for several days to buy a small cake for three yuan.

Today, in order to express his gratitude, he bought the umbrella cake cups that he had been reluctant to buy, each costing five dollars.

"Here you go." Ji Mian handed the cake to Fu Chenyu: "Thank you."

Fu Chenyu said calmly, "Thank me for what?"

Ji Mian looked at him, bright stars shining in her eyes: "Thank you for staying with me that day."

Fu Chenyu took the cake, scooped a spoonful of cream into his mouth, and the sweetness spread all the way to his heart.

Sweeter than cream is the smile of the silly rabbit in front of me.

Fu Chenyu walked in silence. Ji Mian's heart was pounding, as if he had overcome some difficulty. He caught up with him and asked cautiously, "Fu Chenyu, are we friends?"

After a long time, Ji Mian finally heard Fu Chenyu's awkward reply: "Yeah."

In Jimian's night sky, all the stars are shining.

His cat-like eyes curved into a small bridge, his joy was hard to hide, and his heart was extremely excited: Oh my God, it turns out that he was not being self-indulgent, the boss really wanted to be friends with him.

He seemed to see a shining golden "golden medal of immunity from death" hanging around his neck!

When Fu Chenyu saw Ji Mian's smile, his heart skipped a beat.

The tips of his ears turned red. He turned his head and thought awkwardly: Is it so happy to be friends with him, stupid rabbit?
