Chapter 42: Enlightenment
After listening to this, Ji Mian turned around silently.
Fu Chenyu was depressed the whole afternoon. Although he didn't show it, Ji Mian could still feel that Fu Chenyu was unhappy.
By the time he had lunch in the afternoon, he made up his mind and said, biting his chopsticks, "Then I won't go either."
Fu Chenyu looked up: "Why don't you go."
Ji Mian poked at the rice. "I made an appointment with you first. Things are first come first served. I can't break my promise to you."
He thought about it and realized that it was his fault.
He had clearly made an appointment with Fu Chenyu first, but he still agreed to He Xi out of pity.
Fu Chenyu doesn't like girls, he's boring, and doesn't have many friends, leaving him all alone, how pitiful.
"Don't worry about me." Fu Chenyu pushed the dish aside, raised his head, and said lightly: "Ji Mian, you don't have to worry about me."
Ji Mian bit her lip and said seriously, "But you are more important. I want to give you priority."
Fu Chenyu's heartbeat quickened for a moment, but soon calmed down.
He realized that this was Ji Mian's way of speaking, and he was always sincere to his friends.
However, Fu Chenyu knew that he could no longer take advantage of this sincerity.
Ji Mian will be an adult next year and have the right to pursue love and happiness. He can't convince himself and selfishly uses friendship to tie Ji Mian to his side.
"Are you going to be like this in the future?" Fu Chenyu lowered his eyelashes: "After you have a girlfriend, if you continue to be with me every day, your girlfriend will be unhappy."
Ji Mian was stunned for a moment: "But I don't plan to fall in love too early."
Fu Chenyu: "There will always be a day like that." He said, "What if I meet someone I like this time? Don't you plan to have a relationship?"
Ji Mian pursed her lips: "I'm only a sophomore in high school...my studies are my priority...and why can't I be in a relationship with you..."
Fu Chenyu said, "Ji Mian, I told you to leave me alone." He added softly, "If you fall in love, you must tell me."
By then, he wouldn't wait for Ji Mian to distance herself from him.
He will return to his friend's position and maintain his last bit of dignity.
Fu Chenyu's attitude this time was very firm. He did not alienate Ji Mian, nor did he sulk. He was just very normal and let Ji Mian go out and play.
After all these years, it was rare for Ji Mian to be separated from Fu Chenyu. The day he left, she felt heavy and awkward in her heart.
He Xi sat in his seat and talked incessantly, and his girlfriend and her best friend were amused and giggled.
Ji Mian listened absentmindedly, and took out his cell phone every few minutes to check if Fu Chenyu had sent him a message.
Half an hour ago, he had thought that if Fu Chenyu sent a message asking him to go back, he would immediately find an excuse to leave.
But Fu Chenyu didn't.
He Xi’s girlfriend’s best friend is an outgoing and cheerful girl with short hair, nicknamed Mushroom.
Mushroom really likes Ji Mian's quiet personality and has secretly watched him several times.
I wanted to find an opportunity to strike up a conversation, but I couldn't find an excuse. When I saw the wallpaper on Ji Mian's phone, I finally found a chance to speak. I quickly said, "Ji Mian, are you a fan?"
Ji Mian said "Huh?" "I won't chase you..."
The girl was stunned for a moment, but He Xi came to his rescue: "He's not a fan. His phone wallpaper is his brother. Handsome, isn't he?"
The little girl was stunned. Perhaps she had never seen anyone use brothers' photos as wallpaper, so she was a little confused about the subject.
He Xi quickly said, "It's weird, right? I think it's weird too. He and his brother are incredibly close, closer than blood. They grew up together."
Ji Mian explained: "It's a group photo, not a photo of Fu Chenyu alone."
In fact, Ji Mian only had his forehead exposed, but he thought it didn't look good, so he cut it off, resulting in only Fu Chenyu being shown on the wallpaper.
He glanced at the lens coldly.
After thinking for a moment, Ji Mian retorted, "What's so weird about that? Don't girls also use photos of themselves with their best friends as wallpaper?"
He Xi drank water and said, "You know it's girls! It's not strange for girls to be in a good relationship, but two men, that's weird. It's gay among gays. Anyway, I won't use anyone else's photo as wallpaper except my girlfriend."
Originally, Ji Mian didn't think it was strange. Fu Chenyu's photo was nice, so he used it as wallpaper.
After hearing what He Xi said, he felt awkward. Looking at his own behavior, he also felt that he was gay. What's more, the boss liked men.
He was a little less cautious, so Ji Mian silently changed the wallpaper and used the one that came with the phone.
It took him a long time to get used to looking at his own screen.
Still feeling awkward, Ji Mian finally changed the photo to Fu Chenyu's.
After dinner, He Xi suggested going hiking. There is a Mount Wutai nearby. On the mountain there is a Yue Lao Temple with quite a lot of incense, as well as a huge ginkgo tree.
He Xi was in a relationship and wanted to ask for a marriage talisman. He talked with his girlfriend while walking on the way.
Mushroom was bored, so he started talking to Jimian.
Although Ji Mian was not in the mood, he did not treat the little girl coldly.
Mushroom said something and he replied.
It's either "hmm" or "ah".
Later on, it was Mushroom who was the only one doing the awkward chatting.
The girl finally couldn't help herself and asked, "Ji Mian, do you think I'm annoying?"
Ji Mian woke up as if from a dream and put away his phone: "Huh? No."
Mushroom said: "It seems like you don't really want to talk to me. You're always looking at your phone... Are you waiting for someone's message?"
Ji Mian shook his head: "No. I'll check the time."
Mushroom was a little confused: "Are you checking the time by the minute? You check it every ten seconds."
Ji Mian has a good personality. When the girl spoke to him in a harsh tone, he would calm down and remain silent.
Mushroom quickly apologized: "I'm sorry, I spoke too fast. Did I sound a little fierce?"
Ji Mian shook his head: "It's okay."
Mushroom thought he was very gentle and her affection for him grew. It would be really nice if Ji Mian could be her boyfriend.
Good grades, good personality... But she quickly calmed down. With a girl's intuition, she could infer that Ji Mian probably had someone in his heart.
If he checks his phone so frequently, he either has a girlfriend or is dating someone.
Mushroom said, "Jimian, I'm going to ask you something. If you don't want to answer, forget it. Do you have a girlfriend?"
Ji Mian still shook his head: "No."
Mushroom's heart skipped a beat: That means he has a crush on someone!
This wasn't good news either, as the mushrooms wilted instantly.
She would ask He Xi later if there were any girls that Ji Mian was close to.
When he arrived at the Yue Lao Temple in Mount Wutai, He Xi went in to pay his respects.
Ji Mian didn't believe this, but when he thought about the fantasy event of himself traveling through a book, he would rather believe it than not.
I bought two Ping An Fu inscriptions at a stall outside and also bought one for Fu Chenyu.
He looked up and saw the huge ginkgo tree. Since it was not yet the season for the ginkgo leaves to turn yellow, the tree was still green, but that did not stop Ji Mian from wanting to share.
He took several photos in a row, sent them to Fu Chenyu, and then waited for his reply with great anticipation.
Fu Chenyu took time to reply to him. He basically spent his weekends, which were not spent with Ji Mian, in training classes. This week was golf class. On the open lawn, the boy leaned against the golf club.
There is also a 120-minute fencing class in the afternoon.
After Ji Mian sent it to him, he added:
-I bought you a peace charm!
-One for each of us.
Fu Chenyu replied:
-What did you do?
Ji Mian replied quickly:
-climb mountains!
-There is a Yue Lao Temple on the mountain. They sell amulets outside for ten yuan each.
-The scenery here is beautiful. I will come with you next time.
Fu Chenyu's gaze lingered on the three words "Yuelao Temple" for a moment.
Going to Yue Lao Temple with a girl...
Ji Mian liked to share trivial matters with him and talked a lot by himself.
Fu Chenyu occasionally replied to him, and it was obvious that Ji Mian was having a lot of fun.
He Xi saw Ji Mian playing with his phone and couldn't help but bump into him: "Hey, how do you feel?"
Ji Mian raised his head: "What do you mean by 'what feeling'?"
He Xi winked and looked up at the two girls in front of her who were picking out small gifts: "My girlfriend's best friend, Mushroom, what do you think of her?"
Ji Mian answered honestly: "It looks pretty good."
He Xi: "Do you have any ideas?"
Ji Mian shook his head: "No."
"No, no interest?" He Xi raised an eyebrow. "It's okay if you don't feel moved now. You two can add each other on WeChat and chat slowly when you get home. You'll develop feelings for each other as you chat."
Ji Mian whispered, "I really don't want to be in a relationship. I don't want to delay other girls."
Seeing that Ji Mian really didn't have that intention, He Xi didn't try to match them up.
And everyone saw along the way that he was holding a cell phone and chatting with no one knew who he was.
He didn't even look at the girl.
He Xi's girlfriend heard from the proprietress that there would be a night market at Yue Lao Temple in the evening, and she wanted to stay and shop at the night market before leaving.
He Xi asked the remaining two people for their opinions. Mushroom also wanted to stay, so it was very rude of Ji Mian to say that he wanted to leave at this time.
He also wanted to watch Fu Chenyu fencing when he returned in the afternoon. Ji Mian was very interested in this course and had attended a few classes with Fu Chenyu - he was tutored individually by a special teacher, and the course was different from that of other students.
Lin Jianyi was very picky about the education he arranged for the three siblings.
If Fu Chenyu wanted to, he would actually go directly to London to attend high school like Lin Xi.
At night, the night market at Yue Lao Temple began and more and more people came.
Ji Mian followed He Xi and walked aimlessly. Occasionally, when he saw something interesting, he would take a photo and save it, then send a message to Fu Chenyu.
After walking around for half an hour, He Xi suddenly found Ji Mian in a panic, "The mushrooms are gone!"
Ji Mian walked slowly and didn't keep up with the main group, so he didn't react for a while.
He Xi said that he originally thought Mushroom was with his girlfriend, but when he reunited with his girlfriend, he didn't see Mushroom.
I couldn't get through on the phone, and after searching for five or six minutes I started to panic. The Yue Lao Temple is on the mountain, and the road is difficult to walk on. There are so many people that if you are not careful, you might get squeezed and fall. It's no joke.
Ji Mian's face darkened as he started looking for someone with He Xi and the others.
He Xi's girlfriend was timid. After searching for ten minutes without finding anyone, she started crying and kept crying.
He Xi was busy coaxing his girlfriend and had no time to take care of both sides, so he had to ask Ji Mian to go up the mountain with a flashlight. Ji Mian said that if he couldn't find anyone within an hour, he would call the police directly, and then he went up the mountain with a flashlight.
The higher you go, the harder the road becomes and the darker it gets.
Halfway through, Ji Mian didn't pay attention to the stone steps under his feet and fell.
The stone was sharp and directly cut his pants, leaving a cut on his calf, from which blood immediately oozed out.
Ji Mian let out a hiss, reached out his hand and felt blood. He was about to use the flashlight to check, but at the critical moment the flashlight flashed twice and ran out of battery.
There was no village in front and no shop behind. Ji Mian sat in the middle of the mountain road to rest for a while, took out a napkin from his schoolbag and wiped the blood stains, then slowly walked up the mountain.
There was only one straight road on this path, so he went up to take a look, and if the mushroom was not there, he would come down.
The wound on his calf was aching slightly, but Ji Mian could still bear it. He walked around the top of the mountain and found that the mushrooms had not come up the mountain. He used the flashlight on his mobile phone and limped down the mountain.
He Xi called and said he found mushrooms.
There were too many people and the little girl was squeezed down the mountain. Her cell phone was out of battery, so she had to wait for them in the pavilion.
But after waiting for a long time without anyone showing up, I got a little panicked. Later, I borrowed a passerby's phone to call them and apologized repeatedly.
Ji Mian breathed a sigh of relief when he received the news and replied, "I'm glad that everyone is okay."
On the way down the mountain, WeChat popped up twice, and a message from Fu Chenyu came in:
-Class is over, have you gone home?
Ji Mian stared at the message for a while. Everything was quiet and silent, and his eyes suddenly felt a little sore.
He hesitated for a moment and called back: "Fu Chenyu..."
Fu Chenyu heard that his tone was wrong and slowed down: "Where are we?"
Ji Mian: "I'm looking for someone on the mountain. My flashlight is out of battery, so I'm standing here to call you." He thought for a moment and said, "It's dark around here, and I'm a little scared."
Fu Chenyu's face fell: "Address. I'll pick you up."
Fu Chenyu arrived at an extremely fast speed, arriving in just over ten minutes.
He Xi saw him first. Somehow, when he saw Fu Chenyu's expression, he was frightened and didn't dare to speak.
Fu Chenyu's glares pierced He Xi's body, almost scraping off a layer of his skin.
He didn't ask anything, but He Xi had a feeling that he was going to be in big trouble.
When we found Ji Mian, he was almost walking down the mountain.
The wound on his calf was not deep and the bleeding had stopped, but his pants were torn and covered in blood, which looked horrible.
Fu Chenyu squatted down and checked his wound without saying a word. Ji Mian said, "A little girl who was traveling with us got lost, and we're all looking for her."
Fu Chenyu: "Does it hurt?"
As soon as he opened his mouth, he only had Ji Mian in his mind, and the rest of the people had nothing to do with him.
"It doesn't hurt as much anymore."
As soon as Ji Mian finished speaking, Fu Chenyu squatted down without saying anything, put one knee on the ground, and turned his back to Ji Mian: "Come up. I'll carry you."
Ji Mian hesitated for a moment, then slowly moved closer to Fu Chenyu and lay on his back. He closed his eyes and hugged him tighter.
He was afraid of walking such a long mountain road in the pitch black without any light and not being able to reach the end.
Although it sounded unmanly to say this, he admitted that he missed Fu Chenyu a little, a lot, very much.
It was different from how he usually thought of him. The moment he saw Fu Chenyu really appear in front of him, Ji Mian felt indescribable feeling in his heart, sour, swollen, and weird.
"Fu Chenyu..." Ji Mian buried his head in his neck, speaking in a muffled voice.
Fu Chenyu walked slower so that he would feel more comfortable being carried.
Ji Mian said, "I'm sorry...I'm bothering you so late."
Fu Chenyu said calmly, "Ji Mian, don't apologize to me. I did this voluntarily."
Like a moth, it flies into the flame with relish.
