Chapter Forty-Seven: Escape

Chapter Forty-Seven: Escape

47

Wen Zhuo stared at the phone suspiciously for a while.

[It's raining today: Dude, are you still using entrapment tactics?]

Xie Huai turned to look at Wen Zhaoye. There was no reaction on his face, but his mood was noticeably lower. Xie Huai didn't want to serve him anymore, so he threw his phone into Wen Zhaoye's arms and said, "You two should sort out your own affairs. I'm busy."

He hesitated before leaving, glancing at Wen Zhaoye. Wen Zhaoye stared silently at his chat with Wen Zhuo, lost in thought.

He would watch the home security camera every day, over and over again, watching Wen Zhuo carefully crossing the line every day, watching her drift back to her room dejectedly, and finally glaring angrily at the camera.

He had already let her go once. It was Wen Zhuo who traveled all the way abroad to find him. It was Wen Zhuo who walked right into his trap. Wen Zhaoye had never been as excited as that time. He almost ecstatically brought Wen Zhuo back with him.

They entwined themselves passionately in places that were soft, hard, messy, and orderly.

But a few days later, when they returned home, Wen Zhuo started wanting to leave again. She had clearly promised him that she wouldn't leave, so why?

His emotions were as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over him, forcibly cooling him down. He looked at Wen Zhuo's probing of him, as if he couldn't wait to leave.

Wen Zhaoye threw his phone back. The phone spun in the air, and Xie Huai caught it unexpectedly, asking in confusion, "What are you doing?"

Wen Zhaoye smiled and said, "Tell her."

"I'm on a business trip these days, so it's fine for me to come out and have some fun."

Xie Huai watched him stride away after saying those two sentences, helplessly clutching his phone. He could tell from Wen Zhaoye's gritted teeth that he was still pretending.

I'm going on a strange business trip.

Xie Huai chirped a few words to Wen Zhuo's retreating figure, then dutifully told him how to get out.

In the bathroom, Wen Zhuo pinched his chin, wondering if Wen Zhaoye really wasn't there? Was he just having a lucky day?

Not long after, she suddenly received a message from Wen Zhaoye.

[Brother: I'm going on a business trip for three days. You stay home and take care of yourself.]

Wen Zhuo didn't reply to the message immediately. She felt even more suspicious. Was this some kind of entrapment?

***

Wen Zhuo behaved himself all day, while Wen Zhaoye sat in his office.

The assistant was wondering why he wasn't in a hurry to leave work today. Wen Zhaoye had been arriving late and leaving early these past few days, which affected his ability to leave work and made him even more aggressive, even though he was already quite aggressive to begin with.

Wen Zhaoye waved to his assistant, who was hesitating and unsure whether to leave, and the assistant immediately turned and left.

Why didn't Wen Zhuo leave today? Given her personality, she should have been itching to go out and play a long time ago. Why hasn't she left yet?

He adjusted the monitoring angle, zoomed in to the maximum, and observed her expression.

Wen Zhuo suddenly looked up, her blood-red eyes meeting his gaze. The corners of her mouth turned up slightly, and a cunning glint flashed in her eyes. The next instant, a white shadow flashed and suddenly disappeared from his sight.

Wen Zhaoye's face turned cold as the screen on his phone rapidly switched between the living room, bedroom, and kitchen...

No, no, nothing at all, not even a trace of her yin energy could be seen.

They're probably still hiding in the bathroom.

Wen Zhaoye switched the screen to the side room. In the empty room, only the mechanical sound of the camera turning echoed.

Wen Zhuo had already slipped outside. Following Xie Huai's instructions, she sneaked out of the villa without disturbing its protective array.

She floated outside the courtyard, the cool breeze ruffling her hair. Her figure appeared and disappeared in the shadows, and a smug smile played on her lips. She was deliberately provoking Wen Zhaoye, after all, he had kept her locked up for so long and wouldn't even let her go out to play.

Hmph, anyway, business trips don't concern me. Even if it's not a business trip, it's either Wen Zhaoye suddenly having a change of heart, or he's still testing her.

The last one was clearly the correct answer. Wen Zhuo's smile faded slightly, and she sighed.

She took out her phone, another one she had hidden. She wondered if Wen Zhaoye had noticed it. She raised her eyebrows, as if she had thought of something, and floated away for several hundred meters before continuing her actions.

Call up.

"beep--"

The phone rang in the quiet street. An old voice answered, and Wen Zhuo frowned slightly. The moment he answered the phone, he disappeared from his spot.

Wen Zhuo's vision went black and then bright again. A familiar scene appeared before her: clean white walls and a room with only one bed.

The Taoist priest remained there for some reason, as if he had never moved, still standing by the window, gazing at the pitch-black night.

Wen Zhuo was hanging on the ceiling when he noticed that his phone was placed aside and the call had ended, as if he knew Wen Zhuo was coming.

Wen Zhu thought to herself, "What are you pretending for? She caught me secretly playing on my phone last time."

"You've arrived?" his voice rang out.

Wen Zhuo remained silent.

Do you want to leave?

Wen Zhuo moved to a position where she could face him directly. She was upside down in front of the Taoist priest, and her hair began to fly wildly around her, swaying gently in the wind like a bat.

The old Taoist priest took a step back, his expression calm and collected: "It seems not. You don't want to die now?"

"Am I already dead?" Wen Zhuo replied.

The old Taoist priest didn't feel uncomfortable talking to her like this. He just looked directly into her eyes, his gaze calm, like a calm ocean, completely devoid of the playful air of arrogance he had shown last time.

Wen Zhuo shuddered, feeling somewhat helpless in dealing with this kind of role. She landed and stood on the ground, but soon felt tired of standing, so she sat down on the bed.

"I want to know what the price my brother paid for getting me out of here?" Her tone became serious. "I know you know, you're Xie Huai's master, right?"

“I overheard them talking, and they mentioned you.”

A very powerful old man or something.

The old Taoist priest wasn't surprised. He pressed on, "Why are you speaking ill of me?"

Wen Zhu propped his head up with his hand, keeping everyone in suspense: "Tell me about my situation first."

The old Taoist priest: "..."

"His obsession, his blood, his yang energy."

Wen Zhuo lowered her eyes. She remembered that Wen Zhaoye's health was not as good as before. Now, she had to use a lot of water to beat Wen Zhaoye in a fight.

Wen Zhuo pursed her lips and then asked, "Will my constant presence by his side affect his health?"

The old Taoist priest glanced at her and asked, "What do you think?"

Wen Zhuo's heart leaped into his throat: "Your apprentice said you keep going to temples and suspects you're hiding things there. He's going to report you."

The old Taoist priest glared angrily: "This is outrageous!"

Wen Zhuo shrugged: "Speak quickly."

"Of course, even so, do you still want to stay by his side?"

Wen Zhuo did not reply, her gaze slowly settling on her phone. Was there a listening device belonging to Wen Zhaoye inside?
