Chapter 44 Infertility
When Lady Yang woke up, it was already late at night.
The dim hall was lit by a single candle that was about to go out.
Even after waking up from the coma, there was still a dull pain in my stomach.
"coral."
Shanhu, who was drowsy lying on the bed, woke up immediately upon hearing her voice, and cried out in tears: "My lady, you are finally awake."
Lady Yang moved her lips.
After adjusting for a moment, he slowly opened his lips and asked the question that made him so nervous that his hands were shaking: "What did the imperial physician say?"
Shanhu lowered her eyes: "The imperial physician said... the imperial physician said..."
"Tell the truth."
"The doctor said you will never get pregnant again."
This sentence was like thunder, and tears welled up in my eyes.
Lady Yang covered her mouth and cried, tears falling heavily like a dam bursting.
She had guessed this outcome. But the moment she actually heard it… it was truly painful. She had forever lost her right to be a mother.
"My lady, you haven't recovered yet. Don't cry anymore and hurt yourself." Coral started crying too.
I don't know how long I cried. Lady Yang gradually calmed down and asked, "Has Yang Hexuan been punished?"
Shanhu cried and shook her head: "Empress Yang claimed that you accidentally ate safflower, which is why you are like this..."
Lady Yang's eyes widened in disbelief. She grinned behind her ears, but tears kept falling.
He looked crazy and cruel.
How did Yang Hexuan manage to escape unscathed?
"My lady, my lady, what's wrong with you? Please don't scare me..."
Coral was really afraid that the young lady wouldn't be able to bear the blow.
Lady Yang's intermittent sobbing sounded particularly sad in the quiet night.
"Why?" she cried heartbreakingly.
Why is the world so unfair? Why does she encounter all the injustices?
The immense grief almost overwhelmed her.
The expression on that face was both crazy and sad. "Yang Hexuan, I'm not done with you."
Suddenly, there was a sound of footsteps approaching from a distance outside the house. Lady Yang frowned and said nothing.
"Miss Yang, please be careful with your words!" Concubine De entered the hall wearing a black cloak.
"Defei? Why are you here in the middle of the night?" Tears streamed down Lady Yang's face, and she was puzzled by Defei's appearance.
"I heard about you."
Lady Yang sneered, "Your Majesty and I don't usually interact. Your Majesty, are you being too deliberate in coming here?"
At this time, all palaces were locked. He came wearing a black cloak, his selfish motives were obvious.
Concubine De raised her eyebrows and smiled, "Miss Yang is a smart person. Then I will get straight to the point."
"I know it was Concubine Yang who caused your infertility. Perhaps because of the difference between legitimate and illegitimate children, or perhaps out of consideration for the Second Princess, the Emperor chose to protect her, thus wronging you. Now, with your own strength, I'm afraid you can't do anything to Concubine Yang. How about you and I join forces to deal with Concubine Yang together?"
The violent look on Lady Yang's face faded. "From what Her Majesty, Concubine De, do you have a way to take revenge on Concubine Yang?"
"Of course." De Fei smiled confidently, "Otherwise, why would I come to see you?"
Concubine Yang hated Concubine Yang so much that she wished she would die without a burial place. So, in her opinion, having one more ally meant a better chance of victory. It wouldn't hurt her.
"What are the conditions, Madam?"
Concubine De raised her eyebrows: "Did Lady Yang agree?"
"Then it depends on what the Queen's conditions are."
"I have no conditions. It's just a collaboration."
Lady Yang relaxed her brows and said, "I feel that the two of us are still not up to the mark."
Although Concubine De holds a high position and has the eldest prince by her side, without the emperor's favor, nothing can be achieved.
Concubine De smiled lazily and tucked her hair around her ears. "According to Lady Yang, who could be that person?"
Lady Yang: "That person is Wen Wanyu, Wen Deyi."
…
Fengyi Palace
Knowing the whole story, the Queen simply smiled and said, "Madam, guess who did it."
Nanny Li smiled and said, "Your Majesty already has the answer in your heart. Yet you still ask me."
The Queen played with the round fan in her hand and said, "But I don't know why."
"Why?" Nanny Li asked puzzledly.
"Why did 'she' do such a cruel thing?"
Nanny Li understood, a smile playing on her lips. "Everything in this world has a cause and an effect. I guess Lady Yang has crossed her line."
Everything in the world always has a cause and an effect.
"By the way, who was entrusted with the Mid-Autumn Festival state banquet? Concubine Hui and Concubine De?"
When this matter was mentioned, a complex look appeared on Li Ma's usually calm face.
Nanny Li had been with the Queen for so many years and knew her temperament too well, so it was difficult for her to speak at this moment.
The Queen looked at her and smiled bitterly, "Madam, there's no need to hide this from me. It's... Concubine Zhengui, right?"
"Nothing can be hidden from the Queen."
"Concubine Zhengui... is also very good." After a moment's silence, the queen spoke.
Li Ma Ma sighed and advised, "Your Highness, you should hold the real power of the harem in your own hands, not distribute it. I dare you to do this once. Your Highness, for your own sake, you should also get over the pain of losing the Third Prince."
There were some things she had wanted to say for a long time.
Zhengui Fei was the Emperor's original wife, and the Empress was a "latecomer." Whether it was the affection between the two or the time they spent together, she was far inferior to Zhengui Fei. But even so, the Empress was still unwilling to compete or fight.
The Empress has been devastated since losing the Third Prince. It's been two years, and how many two years can a woman in the harem have?
The Queen patted Madam Li's hand and said, "Madam, I am not as fragile as you think."
"Retreat to advance. Use stillness to control movement."
In this game of chess, you have to play slowly and steadily.
Once you make a move, you can’t regret it; once the damage is done, it’s hard to undo it.
A few words on TvT. I've almost reached 100,000 words, and it's increasingly feeling like a group portrait... I think any character could be a novel in their own right. Besides the heroine Wanwan, my favorite character is actually Concubine Yang. She's both mad and clear-headed, a woman who will do anything to achieve her goals. Because she's a concubine, she's been bullied by Concubine Yang since she was a child, but her ending is usually pretty tragic. Even the queen herself: every move she makes has a purpose, every step a plan.
