Chapter 49049 The Reborn Person
When Du Qingtang returned to the courtyard, it was already the middle of the night.
She was not that fool as Yuan Sheng. She did a good job of cleaning up the mess and no one discovered the whole process.
The moon was setting, but Du Qingtang felt no sleepiness at all and was even a little excited.
There was no better news than getting rid of two enemies in one day to make her blood boil.
There was a lot of blood in the yard, left by Qi Ping.
Du Qingtang filled a basin with clean water, took out a rag, squatted on the ground and wiped it slowly and methodically.
She knew Qi Heming's intention of sending Qi Ping to Baoding Prefecture.
In her previous life, Qi Ping killed her, so she should have ended his life with her own hands.
The dog looks ugly, but it is actually quite beautiful.
Do you think that now that Qi Ping is dead, everything in the past can be written off?
Even if Qi Heming had no memory of his past life, she would still kill him, let alone...
Qi Heming was reborn for unknown reasons.
When County Magistrate Meng summoned him that day, Du Qingtang guessed that Qi Heming was very likely to be reborn.
Seeing the phoenix coronet and bridal bridal gown tonight, her guess was confirmed.
It was because the phoenix coronet and bridal bridal gown were exactly the same as the ones Qi Heming had prepared for her in her previous life.
However, Du Qingtang disdained to wear the wedding dress. She felt disgusted at the mere sight of it, so she simply burned it along with Qi Ping.
The revenge from the previous life and the knowledge of her secret of being a woman disguised as a man, for these two reasons alone, Qi Heming must die.
The only thing that bothered her was that Qi Heming was of extraordinary status and had a large number of guards in his mansion, so it was not easy to act rashly.
But it doesn’t matter, there is still a long way to go, and you will always find the right time and the right person.
......
After cleaning up the crime scene, Du Qingtang made sure there was no trace of blood in the courtyard so as not to scare the girls who were staying at Du Ji Snacks.
Afterwards, she cleaned up the medicine powder at the door of the west room.
Du Qingtang was very satisfied that it was indeed a veterinary medicine that could knock out a big insect.
After doing all this, Du Qingtang took off his clothes, shoes and socks, and traveled on the road at night. He then burned the body to destroy the evidence. Inevitably, his body was stained with some strange smell.
She soaked the clothes in a wooden tub in the yard, planning to take a nap and wash them the next morning.
Lying in the bed with residual warmth, Du Qingtang sighed and closed his eyes comfortably.
Before going to bed, she vaguely felt that she seemed to have forgotten something, but she couldn't remember what it was. She simply stopped thinking about it, let the sleepiness crawl onto her eyelids, and fell into a deep sleep.
It was not until the next day, after morning exercise, when she changed her sweat-soaked clothes and washed them together with last night's clothes, that Du Qingtang remembered what she had forgotten.
It was Yuansheng’s letter of accusation.
The letter of accusation had been soaked in soapberry water for several hours, and the handwriting had already become blurred. Du Qingtang didn't care about the content inside and threw it into the stove.
The flames licked the paper and soon turned it to ashes.
After breakfast, Du Qingtang headed towards the academy in the morning light.
Fu Wen had just finished his morning exercises and was munching on a pancake in his dorm. When he saw her walk in, his brows lit up immediately: "Qingtang, you're here. Have you dealt with the rats?"
Du Qingtang responded nonchalantly: "Is this what you eat in the morning?"
Fu Wen scratched his head: "It's delicious. It saves money and time. I don't have to go to the canteen."
Du Qingtang poured her a glass of water and poured himself a glass: "But money is tight?"
Fu Wen's eyes flickered slightly. He lowered his head and took a bite of the dry and hard biscuit. He said vaguely, "No, didn't the boss just give me three hundred coins a few days ago?"
Du Qiya was so meticulous that she didn't let Fu Wen fool her with just a few words. Her dark eyes locked onto hers and she asked, "Didn't your parents give you money?"
The grievances and sorrows came like a tide, Fu Wen's nose felt sore and he almost shed tears.
Seeing that she wanted to bury her head in her chest, Du Qingtang sighed, "It was my negligence."
He had been busy with the county examination these days, and Qi Ping had taken up most of his attention, so he hadn't noticed anything unusual about Fu Wen.
"If you don't mind, you can go help out in the shop." Du Qingtang said slowly, "How about I calculate your wages by the hour?"
Fu Wen was not willing to take advantage of the Du family. He shook his head like a rattle and said, "No need. I still have some extra money..."
"Studying costs money, and your spare money will eventually run out." Du Qingtang paused, "And even if you don't go, I plan to hire someone else. Du Ji Snacks is doing good business, and my sisters are too busy to handle it. If you go and help, you can help them share some of the burden."
Fu Wen was deeply moved.
She had some spare money, but only a few hundred coins. Pens, ink, paper, and inkstone all cost money, and she also had to occasionally buy various test papers to do, so it would soon be used up.
Du Qingtang's proposal was like giving someone a pillow when they were dozing off, and it largely solved her financial dilemma.
Fu Wen sniffed and said sullenly, "Thank you, Qingtang. I'll be there this afternoon."
Du Qingtang pretended not to notice her tears falling on her college uniform, soaking the soft fabric, and turned around to organize the books she would need for today's class.
If Fu Wen treats her sincerely, she will also treat him sincerely in return.
It's that simple.
Fu Wen quickly composed himself and went to Class A with Du Qingtang.
After the etiquette and calligraphy classes, the two went straight to Du Ji Snacks.
After Du Qingtang said hello to Du Qingmei, Fu Wen officially started working. He changed out of his school uniform and put on a robe, becoming a temporary helper at Du Ji Snacks.
In the evening, Du Qingtang and Fu Wen were about to leave. Before leaving, they reminded her, "By the way, Fifth Sister, you can go back to stay tonight."
Du Qingmei responded with a "yes" and packed two servings of fried rice and braised food: "You haven't eaten yet, and you have to pay to go to the canteen. If you don't mind, eat this."
How could Fu Wen dislike it? "Thank you, sister. I will definitely finish it."
Du Qingmei smiled, and her eyes became softer as she looked at Fu Wen.
Du Qingmei saw all the changes in Tangger. She privately thought it was Fu Wen's credit and was grateful to Fu Wen from the bottom of her heart.
"Go ahead. It will be dark if you don't go back."
Du Qingtang and Fu Wen carried their lunch boxes back to the dormitory. After eating and drinking, they began to study and do exercises. They did not wash up and go to bed until midnight.
Fu Wen was lying on the bed, holding a purse in his hand, which contained the wages given to him by Sister Du.
She thought Du Qingtang would ask her why her parents didn't give her money and no longer supported her studies.
She had even thought of the wording, which was certainly not the truth of the matter. She didn't want to leave a bad impression in Du Qingtang's mind.
But it didn't.
Du Qingtang didn't ask anything, but just provided her with a livelihood.
The salary was generous enough, and together with the income from drawing illustrations, it was enough to cover her monthly food and study expenses.
Fu Wen thought that there was no better friend in the world than Qingtang.
She gradually fell asleep with a smile on her lips.
Have a good night.
-
Yuan Sheng and Qi Ping died one after another, and Du Qingtang's life returned to normal.
It is now April, and there are only twenty days left until the provincial examination.
All students who passed the county examination would start their intensive preparation for the provincial examination after class.
He would get up before dawn every day to recite his lessons in a loud and rhythmic voice, and would not turn off the lights or go to bed until late at night. Even when he ate or went to the toilet, he would carry a book with him, under the pretext of learning wherever he went.
Du Qingtang and Fu Wen's lives did not change much as the provincial examination approached.
They get up at dawn as usual, read and do morning exercises, take notes in class, go to Du Ji Snacks to help out after class, do two exercises in their spare time, continue to do exercises when they come back in the evening, and draw an illustration before going to bed.
The only change is probably that the boarding students have to get up early and they can no longer go to the statue of Confucius for morning reading.
Of course, even though the provincial examination was approaching and the schoolwork was busy, Du Qingtang never relaxed the girls' literacy process.
Not only that, she also increased the task of mastering ten words a day to mastering twenty words a day.
In this way, the girls were busy in the shop during the day, and when they came back they had to learn to read and practice calligraphy, which was a mixture of pain and joy.
"Du Qingtang, I've come up with another solution to this arithmetic problem."
Cao Xingcan in the back row called out. Du Qingtang turned around, supported his chin with one hand, and watched him writing furiously on the straw paper.
"...That's the solution. What do you think?"
Cao Xingcan raised his head from the arithmetic problem, feeling quite proud.
Du Qingtang probably didn't expect that there were other solutions to this problem, right?
But Du Qingtang's eyes lit up, he snatched the brush from his hand, and wrote the third solution next to it.
Cao Xingcan: “…”
I'm so angry!
Cao Xingcan felt somewhat discouraged. He glared at Fu Wen, who was covering his mouth and laughing secretly, and fell into a state of autism.
He had studied hard all night and done countless test questions from Xia Jing, but he was still no match for Du Qingtang's sudden inspiration.
His self-righteous showing off only made him look like a clown.
Even Fu Wen was laughing at him. When the news that he ranked second in the county exam reached back to Xia Jing, those people must have been laughing like crazy, right?
Cao Xingcan closed his eyes, his heart beat faster and his breathing became difficult, even the hand holding the pen became stiff.
......
Thousands of miles away in Xiajing, inside the Imperial College.
A group of young men from aristocratic families gathered together, waving their folding fans and chatting and laughing.
Someone mentioned Cao Xingcan: "The county exam has been over half a month ago. Does anyone know how Mr. Cao did?"
"If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have almost forgotten. I have a friend who is studying at Qingyuan Academy. He wrote to me yesterday and happened to mention the Qingyuan County Examination."
Everyone was in high spirits and listened attentively.
"My friend said that Cao Xingcan didn't come first in the county exam; he only came in second!"
"What? Second?!"
"No way, it's just a county exam. Shouldn't Cao Xingcan be the top candidate?"
Cao Xingcan was arrogant and looked down on others. He offended countless people during his more than ten years in Xiajing.
If it weren't for his extraordinary family background, he would have been put in a sack and beaten to death long ago.
But they had to admit that Cao Xingcan was extremely talented and far surpassed other children of the same age from aristocratic families.
When they heard that Cao Xingcan only got second place in the county examination, they all thought they had heard wrongly.
"Why would I lie to you? My friend's letter clearly states everything in black and white. I'm not old enough to misread the first and second place."
The children of the noble families believed him only after they saw that his words were sincere and his expression was not false.
"Although Qingyuan County has the Qingyuan Academy, most of the students there are from other places. Could it be that the top candidate is from the Cao family?"
There was only one prominent family, the Cao family, in Qingyuan County, and they could not think of any other candidates except the descendants of the Cao family.
As for the children from poor families?
They had never considered this possibility at all.
"No, it's a guy named Du Qingtang, he comes from the countryside and is only in his early twenties."
Everyone looked at each other.
"A farmer's son?"
"The Year of the Dancing Spoon?"
"Du Qingtang? Why does this name sound familiar to me?"
Everyone looked at the young man who said this, Qi Heyun.
The second son of the third branch of the Qi family has a cousin who won the top three places in the imperial examinations and is now working in the Ministry of Revenue.
Qi Heyun shrugged: "Maybe I remembered it wrongly. How could I know a little farmer from Qingyuan County? Maybe it's just a similar name."
Everyone was not interested in Du Qingtang, they were more concerned about Cao Xingcan and Cao's reaction.
"How embarrassing."
"If I were him, I would never have the face to return to Xiajing in my life."
"The Cao family already has a legitimate grandson who became famous at a young age. Cao Xingcan's status is much lower than his. No matter how outstanding he is, the Cao family's connections and resources will not fall on him."
"Tsk tsk, how pitiful."
The young men from aristocratic families waved their folding fans, looking very elegant and dashing, and their laughter filled the entire classroom with gloating laughter.
In the evening, classes at the Imperial College were over.
Qi Heyun got on the carriage and headed home.
In the middle of the conversation, he suddenly slapped his head and said, "I remember where I've seen it before. It's in Big Brother's study!"
-
On April 22, the provincial examination came as scheduled.
The day before the exam, Du Qingtang set off for the provincial capital.
Also traveling with them were Fu Wen, Cao Xingcan, and classmates Zhao and Fang, who had pledged guaranty for each other during the county examination.
They originally planned to stay in an inn during the exam, but Cao Xingcan was not happy about it. He waved his hand and ordered the housekeeper to prepare a two-story house for them in the provincial capital in advance.
Du Qingtang: “…”
Fu Wen: “…”
Although they were silent, they were still grateful to Cao Xingcan no matter what.
There are many candidates in the inn, and the people coming and going are a mixed bunch. It is said that every year thieves take the opportunity to steal.
Living with Cao Xingcan can save you a lot of trouble.
On April 21st, the group arrived at the provincial capital at noon. After checking into Cao's house and taking a short rest, they began to study hard behind closed doors. It was not until dusk that the servants knocked on everyone's door, informing them that dinner was ready. Only then did they stop writing and go out.
After dinner, the five people met in the study to discuss and debate, answer each other's questions, and dispersed at 12:30 pm and went back to their rooms to rest.
......
The provincial examination is divided into three parts: copying scriptures, essays, and policy essays. The first two parts last for one day each, and the third part lasts for two consecutive days, during which time the examinee needs to stay overnight in the examination room.
On April 22, the first session of the provincial examination began.
Du Qingtang got up at 3:00 am, changed his clothes, washed up, and went to the dining room to eat.
This time, there is no need to prepare examination supplies and food. Pens, ink, paper, inkstone, meals and clean water will all be provided by the examination center.
After the meal, the five people asked each other questions and tested each other to find out the gaps and fill them in. Then they arrived at the examination venue of the provincial examination - Gongyuan at the hour of Mao.
Compared to the county examination in late February, April was much warmer. I didn't feel cold even wearing a white linen robe. Instead, I was sweating with nervousness because of the candidates from all over Baoding Prefecture outside the Imperial Examination Hall.
"There were thousands of candidates, but only fifty were admitted. The competition was incredibly fierce."
Du Qingtang remained noncommittal.
For children of officials, the imperial examination was a way to continue the family's prosperity.
For children from poor families, the imperial examination was the only way to change their destiny.
To be a farmer in the morning and to ascend to the emperor's palace in the evening is the dream and lifelong goal of many farmers' sons.
Du Qingtang had seen many white-haired, unsteady elderly men in their sixties appear in the examination room, and many of them never returned.
They had an almost crazy obsession with the imperial examinations, and were willing to lose everything and their families for it.
From this perspective, Fan Jin's success in the imperial examination can be regarded as a reflection of the allusion in reality, which is full of irony.
"Alas, I'm ready to fail."
"Me too."
Cao Xingcan sneered, "The provincial examination hasn't even begun yet, and you're already belittling yourselves and giving up on yourselves. You might as well just go home, cover yourself with your quilt, and fall asleep. Why bother taking the imperial examination?"
These words were so sharp that the faces of those people turned pale and blue, and they were extremely embarrassed.
Fu Wen tugged at Cao Xingcan's sleeve and said to him kindly, "Classmate Cao, please be careful with your words. You don't want to get beaten up outside the Imperial Examination Hall, do you?"
Cao Xingcan: “…”
As they were talking, the first quarter of the morning had arrived.
The gate of the Imperial Examination Hall opened, and the prefect appeared with the examiners.
The candidates spontaneously formed lines, with fifty people in each line, to undergo initial examination.
The initial inspection was relatively relaxed, and the inspector let us go after a brief check.
Du Qingtang and Fu Wen entered the Imperial Examination Hall one after another, and were led to their respective examination rooms by little boys holding lanterns.
Before entering the examination room, candidates will be subject to a more thorough body search at the door.
Du Qingtang had a golden finger and was not afraid at all. He opened his arms and calmly accepted the inspection of the prosecutor.
On the other hand, Fu Wen, as an ancient native disguised as a man, would be terrified without the blessing of a golden finger, fearing that her identity would be discovered and she would end up in a terrible situation.
"Fu Wen from Fujia Village."
Fu Wen responded, took a deep breath, and stepped forward to be searched.
The inspector was a middle-aged man with a serious face. He checked very carefully, from head to toe. His sharp eyes made Fu Wen's scalp tingle and his heart almost jumped out of his throat.
Fortunately, the body search for the imperial examination in Daxia did not require taking off all clothes, but Fu Wen had suffered from hunger since childhood and was thinner than other girls of the same age. She had not yet developed at the age of fourteen, let alone menstruation.
"No problem, next."
Fu Wen's heart settled back down. He bowed respectfully to the examiner and walked into the examination room calmly with the square steps he had learned from Cao Xingcan.
......
Du Qingtang found his own room according to the exam instructions.
The examination supplies such as pens, ink, paper and inkstone have been fully prepared in the dormitory, and there is also a wooden barrel in the corner for candidates to relieve physiological problems.
Du Qingtang placed all the items as usual, and then began to grind the ink.
At the hour of Chen, the examiners distributed the test papers one by one.
The first part of the provincial examination is to test candidates' memory ability by copying the contents of the book according to the requirements on the examination paper.
As a tough guy who can recite the Four Books and Five Classics by heart, this question is simply a piece of cake.
After receiving the test paper, Du Qingtang first read the entire paper to get a general understanding of the difficulty of the questions, and then began to answer.
The imperial examination had clear regulations that there must not be any traces of erasures on the test paper. Du Qingtang first wrote the answers on a piece of scratch paper. After writing, he checked and corrected them word by word to ensure that there were no problems before copying them into the test paper in regular script.
You have to be extremely careful during this period. Any carelessness will ruin the entire answer sheet, and you will have to try again next year.
When I was halfway through writing, someone brought me food and water.
Du Qingtang had breakfast early and was really hungry, so he stopped to eat.
But she didn't dare drink too much water, just took a few sips to moisten her throat.
The cell is semi-open, and her identity is not suitable for solving certain problems here.
After eating, someone took away the dishes and chopsticks, and Du Qingtang continued to copy the answers.
At 1:15 PM, Du Qingtang pulled the small bell beside him.
The examiner will cover the test paper, put it in a special box, and take away all the examination tools.
"You can go now, but please don't make any noise."
Du Qingtang bowed and quietly left the examination room.
The Cao Mansion's carriage had already been waiting outside the Imperial Examination Hall. Fu Wen and the other three had not come out yet, so Du Qingtang went to wait in the carriage.
About half an hour later, Cao Xingcan came out first.
He lifted the curtain and found Du Qingtang sitting upright inside, reading a book. His expression became complicated for a moment, and then he stepped into the carriage.
"Du Qingtang, you..."
Du Qingtang opened his eyes.
Cao Xingcan looked away and shook his head: "Nothing."
Du Qingtang didn't ask any further questions and continued reading.
Cao Xingcan glanced at the vermilion gate of the Imperial Examination Hall, his breathing quickened a little, and his well-trimmed nails dug into the flesh of his palms, oozing blood unconsciously.
Du Qingtang noticed his reaction and seemed to be thinking about something.
Fu Wen and two other classmates came out soon, and the five of them went home. After dinner, they went back to their rooms to prepare for the second game tomorrow.
......
The next day, April 23, the second session of the provincial examination began.
The second test is essays, namely a poem and an fu, which mainly examines the candidate's rhetorical ability.
The process was similar to yesterday. I drafted on rough paper, revised and polished it, and then copied it into the test paper in regular script.
However, writing poems and essays is different from dictation, and it takes more time. This time I handed in the paper a little late, and only at 3:30 pm did I ring the small bell beside me.
The examiner came and covered the name, put the test paper into a special box, took away the test materials, and ordered Du Qingtang to leave immediately.
April 24th, the third round of the provincial examination.
The third exam lasts two days and tests policy essays to examine candidates' understanding and views on political views and current affairs.
Du Qingtang got the test paper and first read the question stem——
"Excessive expenses make a fortune".
These four short words reflect the phenomenon of the continuous increase and expansion of various financial expenditures of the court.
Du Qingtang had done similar policy papers before. If he wanted to solve the above problems, he should start from increasing revenue and reducing expenditure, developing the economy, and reforming the tax system.
In this way, you will have a clear idea of how to answer the question.
Du Qingtang picked up his pen, dipped it in ink, and wrote quickly.
Because she wanted to write so much, she entered a state of ecstasy for a while. By the time she finished the first draft, it was already 1:00 p.m. and the sun was about to set.
During this time, Du Qingtang didn't eat a single bite. When he came to his senses, his stomach was growling and his hunger was screaming wildly.
Du Qingtang pulled the little bell and got a steaming meal that didn't taste very good.
After filling his stomach, Du Qingtang polished the first half of the policy paper before it got completely dark.
Candidates lit candles one after another, and dim light shone through the gaps in the rooms.
Du Qingtang had no intention of working late into the night, so he took down the wooden board that served as a table and put it together with the one that served as a stool to form a wooden bed.
She lay on it, wrapped herself tightly in clothes, and fell asleep to the rustling sound of writing around her.
Du Qingtang didn't sleep well that night.
She was a light sleeper, and many candidates in the examination room were snoring. It seemed that one of the candidates had a stomach upset, and the smell spread, startling the other candidates.
Du Qingtang couldn't sleep because of the smoke, and tossed and turned until dawn.
Before they had slept for half an hour, the candidates woke up one after another, and there was the clanging of wooden boards and all kinds of noises such as shit, urine and fart.
Du Qingtang: “…”
Forget it, there is only one day left. I will just hold on for a few more hours and then go back to have a good sleep.
Du Qingtang washed his face with clean water to drive away the remaining sleepiness, polished the second half, then read through the entire essay and copied the 2,300-word policy essay onto the test paper.
This copying made me miss lunch and didn’t finish until 3 p.m.
Du Qingtang pulled the small bell beside him and handed in the paper early.
The examiner came over to cover her name and took away the examination materials, and she left on her own accord.
Du Qingtang was still the first to hand in her paper. She closed her eyes and dozed off in the carriage at Cao's mansion when the driver outside suddenly exclaimed, "Young Master!"
When the curtain of the carriage was lifted, Cao Xingcan's pale face came into view.
His face looked very ugly, with two abnormal blushes on his cheekbones and his cheeks sunken, as if some demon had sucked away all his energy overnight.
If the coachman had not supported him in time, Cao Xingcan would have fallen on his face.
Du Qingtang jumped off the carriage and ordered, "Send him back to see the doctor first, and we will go back later."
The coachman was a servant of the Cao family, so naturally he always put Cao's second grandson first in everything. Upon hearing this, he did not dare to delay, put the unconscious Cao Xingcan into the carriage, flicked the whip and drove away.
Fu Wen came out and didn't see Cao Xingcan. He exclaimed curiously, "I'm the second one to hand in my paper this time?"
"Cao Xingcan is ill, so I asked him to go back first." Du Qingtang said mischievously, "So you are still the third one."
Fu Wen didn't bother to worry about whether he was second or third. He asked anxiously, "Is classmate Cao sick? Didn't he say he practiced martial arts since he was young? How could he be defeated so easily in a provincial exam?"
Although Cao Xingcan was sharp-tongued and arrogant, although she always liked to argue with him, and although Du Qingtang was her best friend, Fu Wen privately considered Cao Xingcan half a friend.
She naturally worries when her friend is sick.
Du Qingtang waved to classmates Zhao and Fang as they left the Imperial Academy, saying calmly, "The pressure is too great, and it's weighing on my heart."
Fu Wen suddenly realized and sighed, "Everyone has their own difficulties."
She was worried about her livelihood, and Cao Xingcan was worried about his grades.
Du Qingtang remained noncommittal: "Let's go, we'll talk about it when we get back."
The four of them walked back to Cao's house. The doctor had already left. Cao Xingcan was leaning against the head of the bed, drinking medicine.
The bitter smell of the medicine makes people frown just by smelling it.
Seeing that he was no longer seriously injured, Du Qingtang said bluntly, "Although fame, wealth and status are external things, countless people are eager to pursue them. However, in my opinion, if you lose your life, everything you seek will be in vain."
Just like herself.
Only by living well and overcoming all difficulties can you realize your ambitions.
She didn't understand it before, but the girls from the Du family and Fu Wen taught her this.
Du Qingtang left after he finished speaking, went back to his room to wash up, and fell asleep without even eating dinner.
After she left, Cao Xingcan's face became even paler.
Fu Wen was worried that Du Qingtang would tell on him and make him faint, so he hurried to smooth things over, "Classmate Cao, Qingtang is doing this for your own good. You're the strongest among us, yet you're the only one who's fallen ill. That speaks volumes."
Cao Xingcan's pupils trembled and he closed his eyes almost in embarrassment.
Of course he knows.
But he couldn't control it.
He didn't want to disappoint his grandfather, nor did he want to become an abandoned child.
Even if he couldn't beat his elder brother, he didn't want to be outdone by his half-brothers.
......
Four days of high-intensity exams made Du Qingtang very tired. She slept for eleven hours in a row without being disturbed.
I opened my eyes and saw the setting sun. The orange-red light shone in through the window and the dust particles floating in the air were clearly visible. It was quiet and beautiful.
Du Qingtang was rarely lazy, so he stayed in bed for a while and didn't get up until the sun went down.
Fu Wen, who lived across from Du Qingtang, was sitting under the eaves, holding a book. Seeing her appear, he was relieved: "If you don't wake up, I'll call a doctor."
Du Qingtang: "...I'm so sleepy."
Fu Wen knew it, so he didn't wake anyone up rashly.
Du Qingtang asked, "How is Cao Xingcan?"
Fu Wen held up his chin and said, "He's in better spirits now. I hope he can be more open-minded and stop dwelling on this."
Du Qingtang hummed softly: "Have you eaten?"
Fu Wen shook his head: "No, I'm waiting for you."
So the two of them went to eat together.
After dinner, Du Qingtang went out under the pretext of taking a walk to help digest his food.
After walking for half an hour, they stopped outside the gate of a small courtyard.
“Knock knock knock—”
Du Qingtang raised his hand and knocked on the door. A casual male voice soon came from inside: "Who is it?"
Du Qingtang did not respond until the other party opened the door, then he said softly, "Mr. Mu Yan."
The man with handsome features and a decadent temperament narrowed his eyes and spoke in the same lazy tone as always, as if he was still drunk: "Mr. Mu Yan, there is no Mr. Mu Yan you are looking for here."
Du Qingtang was not moved at all: "I know where your daughter is."
The man's expression froze.
Du Qingtang added: "In exchange, I want you to help me kill someone."
The drunken haze in the man's eyes faded, and he turned sideways: "Come in."
