Chapter 81 The Same Choice

The rain poured down.

Xin Jiuwei's hair and skirt were wet. Liu Ya took off his raincoat and gave it to her. She shook her head and led them quickly into the bamboo forest.

This is another secret her mother left her.

Liu Ya helped Jue Ming into the wooden house deep in the bamboo forest. The poison on Jue Ming's chest had spread further, but he frowned and didn't say a word.

Anyone in pain would make a sound, but Jue Ming did not.

Only his pale face betrayed the depth of his poisoning.

Xin Jiuwei's hands trembled slightly. She touched her dripping hair and bent down to take out a porcelain bottle that she had been hiding in her sleeve.

Jueming's gaze fell on her face, as if asking a silent question.

With her fingertips clenched tightly, Xin Jiuwei stood still.

Liu Ya was a little anxious, "Miss Xin San."

Boom—

A sudden clap of thunder sounded amidst the heavy rain.

"Strange," Xin Jiuwei muttered to herself, "It's already late autumn, how can there still be such a big thunder?"

She thought it might be fate.

It seems that everything related to Jueming—no, Xiao Xun—is fate.

But having been given a second chance at life, the thing she least believed in was fate.

"Third Miss!" Liu Ya's urgent voice brought Xin Jiuwei back to her senses.

She snapped out of her daze and looked at Xiao Xun.

If she were to withdraw her hand today, Xiao Xun would die.

Can she do that?

There's no way that her backer would die before Qi Huaiyu even died.

But if she handed over this half of the antidote, she would have no more bargaining chips, and Xiao would die for her cause—

Boom!

Another clap of thunder sounded, and a flash of white light suddenly appeared before Xin Jiuwei's eyes, illuminating the room brightly for a moment, and also illuminating Xiao Xun's face, which had turned pale from the poison.

The new emperor in her past life was unfathomable, and in this life, Xin Jiuwei's choice to rely on him is nothing more than seeking help from a tiger.

But it was Xiao Xun who used his internal energy for her sake, which caused the poison to take effect.

Xin Jiuwei's heart jumped up and then started pounding wildly.

It seems she has no choice but to take another gamble.

She gripped the porcelain bottle tightly, pried open the lid, poured out the remaining half of the antidote, knelt down in front of Xiao Xun, stretched out her hand, and looked up at him.

"Your Highness."

Xin Jiuwei's voice trembled slightly, "From now on, my life and death will depend entirely on your conscience."

Xiao Xun stared at her quietly. His poison seemed to have passed its most painful stage, yet it also seemed to be at its most painful.

Xin Jiuwei was now afraid that he was really dead, and Liu Ya, who was standing next to her, was also anxious.

"Your Highness, please take your medicine!"

Xiao Xun stared at Xin Jiuwei for a long time before taking the half-pill of the antidote that was crucial to his life and swallowing it.

Xin Jiuwei slumped to the ground, lost in thought.

About fifteen minutes later, Xiao Xun opened his eyes, his brows no longer furrowed in pain.

He looked at Xin Jiuwei, his tone becoming somewhat somber, "You really have no more bargaining chips left."

Xin Jiuwei suddenly raised her head. Her hair was still wet, clinging to her fair face. Her eyes were wide open, like another woman in a similar rainy night.

Just like that day, she stared intently at Xiao Xun, and just like that, she cut off his supply lines from the root of the problem.

“Yes, I have no more bargaining chips.” Xin Jiuwei said softly, “I know His Highness’s background, and even the Second Prince may be eyeing the secrets of the Xin family behind me that I don’t even know. Now, I am just a lamb to be slaughtered by you.”

She blinked slowly, then stared at Xiao Xun, her body trembling in the darkness.

"I have been working so hard for so many days, and in the end, I want to survive, but it is thanks to Your Highness's conscience."

She smiled, a smile that seemed both bitter and self-deprecating.

"Rely on a man's conscience."

Liu Ya felt that her words were a bit strange. She glanced at Xiao Xun, then silently slipped outside, pretending that she didn't exist.

Xin Jiuwei ignored her departure; she simply stared at Xiao Xun, lost in a daze.

She was reborn and climbed up to Xiao Xun in order to deal with Qi Huaiyu, which seemed like she made the right move.

But what difference does it make? Just like her previous wishful thinking in believing in Qi Huaiyu, is her life or death now in her own hands?
