Chapter 272 Rainy Night

Xin Rui gently patted her shoulder: "Your aunt and uncle are afraid you can't bear this truth. They treat you like their own daughter, and that fact will never change."

Qi Yue knelt by the bed, holding Xin Suiyun's hand, tears falling onto his pale face. At this moment, she made up her mind that no matter what, she would make sure Xin Suiyun returned to his rightful place, even if it meant leaving the Qi family.

As dawn broke, Qin Sang finally finished the treatment and sat up wearily: "The toxins are under control, but I still need to be observed for twelve hours. If I can get through that, I won't be in any danger."

Qi Yue looked at Qin Sang gratefully: "Thank you, Miss Qin Sang."

Qin Sang smiled slightly: "Saving lives is a doctor's duty. As for Miss Qi, you haven't slept all night, you should get some rest."

Qi Yue shook her head: "I want to stay here with him."

Xin Rui and Qin Sang exchanged a glance and didn't try to persuade her further. They knew that Qi Yue needed time to process this shocking truth.

Sunlight streamed through the paper window, illuminating Xin Suiyun's face. Qi Yue carefully examined his features and finally noticed the resemblance to her mother—the high, straight nose, the slightly upturned corners of his eyes…

The truth had always been right in front of her, but she had never noticed it.

“Brother Suiyun,” she called softly, this was the first time she had ever addressed him like this, “Please, you must wake up. The Qi family needs you, and I… need you too.”

As if hearing her call, Xin Suiyun's eyelashes trembled slightly. Qi Yue held her breath, waiting for him to open his eyes again.

This time, she will see her brother, who has always silently protected her, with a completely new perspective. And their relationship will be forever changed.

As dawn broke, the soft light filtered through the window paper, casting a gentle glow on Xin Suiyun's pale face. Qi Yue, who had kept watch all night, was now taking a nap against the edge of the bed, her hand still tightly holding Xin Suiyun's.

In a daze, she felt the hand move slightly. Qi Yue immediately woke up and looked up to meet Xin Suiyun's half-open eyes. Those usually cold eyes looked weak at this moment, but much clearer.

"You're awake!" Qi Yue was overjoyed and quickly got up to call Qin Sang, but Xin Suiyun gently pulled her back.

“Water…” his voice was hoarse.

Qi Yue quickly poured a glass of warm water, carefully helped him up, and held the glass to his lips. Xin Suiyun drank a few sips from her hand, his breathing gradually becoming steady.

Their eyes met, and a subtle awkwardness filled the air. Qi Yue didn't know how to speak, and Xin Suiyun remained silent, his gaze lingering on her haggard face with complicated emotions.

"You already know." Finally, Xin Suiyun spoke first, not as a question, but as a statement.

Qi Yue nodded, tears welling in her eyes: "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Why did you have to bear all of this alone?"

Xin Suiyun looked away, her voice low: "What good would telling you do? You've lived in the Qi family for sixteen years, the apple of your parents' eye. Breaking this balance won't benefit anyone."

“But this is not fair to you!” Qi Yue said excitedly. “You are the bloodline of the Qi family. You should enjoy your parents’ love, not… not live a life of danger.”

Xin Suiyun gave a bitter smile: "I've long been used to this kind of life. But what about you, Yue'er? What do you plan to do?"

This was the first time he had addressed her so affectionately, and Qi Yue felt a pang of sorrow in her heart. She looked at him resolutely: "I will tell Father and Mother the truth, and I will return you to the place that rightfully belongs to you."

“No!” Xin Suiyun immediately objected. “The Northern Di spies have not yet been eliminated. Revealing my identity at this time will only bring danger to the Qi family.”

Qi Yue was about to argue when Qin Sang and Xin Rui pushed open the door and entered. Seeing Xin Suiyun awake, they both breathed a sigh of relief.

"How are you feeling?" Qin Sang stepped forward to take his pulse.

"I won't die," Xin Suiyun replied briefly, but her gaze fell on Xin Rui. "How's the situation outside?"

Xin Rui's expression was grave: "The Northern Di people are searching for you throughout the city. The Crown Prince has already increased the number of people protecting the Qi residence, but I think it would be best for Yue'er not to go back for the time being."

Qi Yue's heart tightened: "My father and mother must be terribly worried."

“I’ve already sent someone to tell you that you’re helping to take care of the wounded at Qin Sang’s place and will be staying for a few days,” Xin Rui comforted her. “Although my aunt was worried, she didn’t suspect anything when she heard that you were doing this to save people.”

Xin Suiyun struggled to get up: "It's not safe here, I have to leave."

"Where can you go in your current physical condition?" Qin Sang pressed him down. "The wound has just stopped bleeding, and the toxins have not been completely cleared. It is not advisable to move."

Qi Yue also advised, "Yes, Brother Suiyun, just focus on recovering. With your cousin and Miss Qin Sang here, everything will be alright."

Xin Suiyun was visibly taken aback when she heard the address "Brother Suiyun," and gave Qi Yue a complicated look before finally giving up.

For the next three days, Qi Yue stayed in the courtyard to take care of Xin Suiyun. At first, Xin Suiyun seemed very uncomfortable with her care, always giving her a cold look and telling her not to do it. But Qi Yue remained unmoved, still carefully changing his dressings and feeding him.

Gradually, Xin Suiyun's attitude softened a bit. Although he still didn't say much, at least he no longer rejected her care.

That afternoon, Qi Yue was changing Xin Suiyun's dressing when she inadvertently noticed a deep scar on his chest and couldn't help but ask, "How did you get this scar?"

Xin Suiyun was silent for a moment before whispering, "Three years ago, I was shot by an arrow while protecting the Crown Prince."

Qi Yue gently touched the scar, a pang of heartache rising in her heart: "It must hurt a lot, right?"
