Chapter 278 Newlyweds

That day, Qi Yue was taking a walk in the courtyard when she suddenly saw a familiar figure standing under the moon gate.

"Cousin?" She looked at Xin Rui in surprise.

Xin Rui walked over with a smile: "I've come to see you." He handed over a brocade box, "This is a pregnancy-preserving medicine specially prepared for you by Qin Sang."

Qi Yue took the brocade box, noticed the desolation in Xin Rui's eyes, and asked softly, "You and Miss Qin Sang..."

Xin Rui smiled bitterly: "She still doesn't want to accept me. She says our social statuses are too different and she doesn't want to hinder my future."

Qi Yue comforted her, "Where there's a will, there's a way. Miss Qin Sang just needs time."

Xin Rui smiled and changed the subject. Before leaving, he solemnly said, "Suiyun is someone you can entrust your life to. I wish you happiness."

After seeing Xin Rui off, Qi Yue felt a surge of emotion. How fortunate she was to be able to stay with the one she loved.

During dinner, Qi Yue told Xiao Suiyun about her conversation with Xin Rui. After listening, Xiao Suiyun pondered and said, "Xin Rui is truly devoted to Qin Sang, but Qin Sang is too stubborn. Perhaps... we should lend them a hand."

Three days later, Xiao Suiyun invited Qin Sang to his residence for a chat, ostensibly to express his gratitude for the medicine she had given him. He also invited Xin Rui along with him.

In the garden pavilion, Qi Yue and Qin Sang chatted casually, while Xiao Suiyun and Xin Rui played chess in the distance, actually keeping an eye on what was happening here.

"Miss Qin Sang's medical skills are superb. I wonder what her plans are for the future?" Qi Yue asked tactfully.

Qin Sang said calmly, "I have no other wish than to continue practicing medicine and helping people."

Qi Yue said softly, "Practicing medicine and helping the world are not mutually exclusive with marriage."

Qin Sang remained silent for a moment, then looked at Xin Rui in the distance, a hint of tenderness flashing in her eyes before turning somber: "I come from humble origins and am not worthy of the young marquis."

"When true love prevails, what does it matter whether someone is worthy or unworthy?" Qi Yue held her hand. "My cousin's feelings for you have never changed over the years. Life is too short to miss out on a good match because of worldly opinions."

Qin Sang lowered her head and remained silent, but Qi Yue could tell that she had begun to waver.

At this moment, Xiao Suiyun and Xin Rui walked over. Xin Rui went directly to Qin Sang and solemnly said, "Qin Sang, I have said these words many times before, but today, in front of Suiyun and Yue'er, I will say them again: I, Xin Rui, will marry no one but you in this life. If you do not wish to live in the Marquis's mansion, we can establish our own household; if you do not wish to socialize with the powerful and wealthy, I will accompany you to practice medicine and help the world. I only ask that you give me a chance to take care of you for the rest of my life."

Tears welled up in Qin Sang's eyes, and after a long while, she finally nodded gently.

Xin Rui was overjoyed and immediately proposed marriage to Qin Sang.

After seeing them off, Qi Yue leaned on Xiao Suiyun's shoulder and said with satisfaction, "Another good thing has been accomplished."

Xiao Suiyun gently stroked her hair: "It's the best ending for lovers to be united in the end."

The moonlight, like water, bathed the two embracing figures. Qi Yue felt the movements of the baby in her womb, her heart filled with happiness.

"Let's give the child a name," she said softly.

Xiao Suiyun pondered for a moment: "If it's a boy, name him Xiao Muyue, meaning 'I admire you, my love will never change'; if it's a girl, name her Xiao Nianyun, meaning 'I cherish my love, my affection will never waver in this life'."

Tears welled up in Qi Yue's eyes: "They are all good names."

At this moment, all the hardships and waiting transformed into sweet dew of happiness. They knew that the road ahead was still long, but as long as they relied on each other, they had nothing to fear.

Qin Sang and Xin Rui's wedding was set for the following spring, and Qi Yue began helping with the preparations. One day, while she was reviewing the gift list, she suddenly felt a violent kick from the baby in her womb and couldn't help but gasp softly.

"What's wrong?" Xiao Suiyun immediately put down the military book in his hand and came to her side anxiously.

Qi Yue took his hand and placed it on her pregnant belly, and said with a smile, "The baby is unusually lively today, perhaps because he knows his father is by his side."

Xiao Suiyun felt the movement beneath his palm, his eyes filled with surprise and tenderness. He leaned down and whispered to Qi Yue's belly, "Little one, don't bother your mother."

This warm moment was abruptly interrupted by an announcement. A guard reported that the Northern Barbarian delegation had arrived on the outskirts of the capital and would soon enter the city for peace talks.

Xiao Suiyun's expression hardened slightly: "Who will lead this delegation?"

"It is Ashina Hong, the eldest prince of the Northern Di," the guard replied.

Qi Yue noticed the complex emotions that flashed across Xiao Suiyun's eyes. After the guards withdrew, she asked softly, "Does this eldest prince have a past with you?"

Xiao Suiyun nodded: "When I was young in the Northern Barbarians, he took care of me. But he is strong-willed and has always advocated war. I don't know why he will serve as a peace envoy this time."

The following day at court, the emperor ordered Xiao Suiyun to participate in receiving the Northern Di delegation. Upon returning to his residence, he appeared grave.

"Ashina Hong requested to visit the Marquis of Zhenbei's residence," Xiao Suiyun said to Qi Yue. "I initially intended to decline, but the Crown Prince believed it was a gesture of goodwill and should not be refused."

Qi Yue grasped his hand: "In that case, we will treat him well. I will go with you to see him."

Three days later, the Northern Barbarian delegation arrived in the capital. Ashina Hong indeed visited the Marquis of Zhenbei's residence as promised.

The eldest prince of the Northern Di was about thirty years old, with a dignified bearing, and his features did indeed bear some resemblance to Xiao Suiyun. He arrived with generous gifts and was extremely respectful and courteous.

"Cousin, it's been many years." Ashina Hong greeted him in the Northern Di language, but his gaze fell on Qi Yue. "This must be your wife, right?"

Qi Yue greeted Ashina Hong with proper etiquette, keenly sensing the sharpness hidden beneath Ashina Hong's gentle exterior. During the meal, he avoided discussing politics, focusing instead on family matters and inquiring about Xiao Suiyun's life over the years.

After seeing Ashina Hong off, Xiao Suiyun dismissed everyone around him and asked Qi Yue, "What do you think of him?"

Qi Yue pondered, "His manners were impeccable, but his eyes were too shrewd. He didn't mention a word about politics today, which is suspicious."

Xiao Suiyun nodded approvingly: "I think the same way. Ashina Hong has always been outspoken, and his behavior today must be for some purpose."
