Little Sweethearts 18
A year is neither long nor short, but it has been a year of tremendous changes for Jiang Qixin.
She successfully passed the postgraduate entrance examination to continue her studies, but Xu Cheng'an died unexpectedly that year.
Before Xu Cheng'an could go on the graduation trip that he had promised her, he left this world.
Jiang Qixin actually didn’t quite remember how she got here. She thought that since she had experienced life and death, she shouldn’t be so afraid of death.
So she tried hard to cheer herself up and get back to studying.
She is still studying at University A, and the familiar environment makes her mood less bad.
But she would no longer be able to eat the meals Xu Chengan cooked for her on weekends, they would not go hiking or shopping on weekends, and she would go home alone during long holidays.
The house that originally housed four people became a little empty. There was Xu Cheng'an who had passed away, Jiang Qixin who was away studying and working, and the two parents who were traveling to relax.
She studied and worked mechanically every day, following the plan. Eating, sleeping and working seemed to have become the only three worthwhile activities in her life.
During her free time on weekends, she would stay in the dormitory all day. Except for getting up for breakfast, lunch and dinner, she would probably stay in bed the rest of the time.
Because it seems easier to forget the things that make people sad.
But when Jiang Qixin closed her eyes, all she saw was pitch black, but she couldn't help but think of Xu Cheng'an's appearance.
It had been a long time since her parents passed away, and she couldn't remember how she had gotten through those days.
Jiang Qixin really wanted her ten-year-old self to teach her current self how to face the death of a loved one.
The weather today seemed particularly bright. Even though the curtains in the room were drawn tightly, her eyes were still somewhat uncomfortable with the sunlight outside the window.
After turning off the alarm clock in his hand, Jiang Qixin blinked with a headache.
Last night, she had a sudden urge to watch a heartwarming, tear-jerking family film. Even she, a person with a high tear point, cried uncontrollably. As a result, her eyes were swollen when she opened them this morning.
She also had a headache, so after turning off the alarm, she fell back asleep.
Xu Chengan stood by the bed, silently watching her turn off the alarm clock and lie back on the bed. His fingertips seemed to still have the warmth of her body.
His fingertips had just clearly touched her calm face, wandering across her facial features.
He could clearly touch Jiang Qixin, but Jiang Qixin could not feel his presence.
Xu Cheng'an was a little panicked. He was sure that this was Jiang Qixin's dream. In the previous dream world, Jiang Qixin didn't remember that Xu Cheng'an had passed away.
Dreams are like a parallel world. In this world woven by one's own subconscious, Xu Cheng'an is still alive and well.
He stood by the bed and watched her lying back down. Xu Chengan opened his mouth and said, "Jiang Jiang, Jiang Jiang..."
He called her name weakly, but there was no response in the air.
From Jiang Qixin's action of turning off the alarm on her cell phone, Xu Cheng'an learned that the current dream setting was a Saturday morning.
So some people still need to go to work, but Jiang Qixin's job has two days off a week, so she is enjoying a weekend that should be peaceful and relaxing.
The surrounding layout is the same as the rental house she lives in now, so this is probably a dream that is not so bizarre and is very close to daily life.
Jiang Qixin stretched out his hand from the quilt and touched his head. He felt that he might not have woken up yet. Why did he always feel like he heard some sound?
She opened her eyes and looked at the empty room, then sighed and closed her eyes again.
Jiang Qixin didn't wake up again until she was so hungry that she couldn't bear it anymore. She scratched her hair which was a little messy from sleeping, and dragged herself to brush her teeth and wash her face with a little grumpy look.
Then Jiang Qixin took out the cake he bought when he got home from get off work last night from the refrigerator and used it as breakfast for today.
Xu Cheng'an followed her and sat at the dining table. The scene in front of him was still black and white. He couldn't see the color of the cake, but he seemed to smell the fragrance of strawberries.
This is probably her favorite strawberry flavor.
He sat in front of her somewhat at a loss. These days, Xu Cheng'an had gotten used to the life where Jiang Qixin could see him. Now this dream where she couldn't see him made him feel a little strange.
Jiang Qixin was probably very hungry, and she took a fork and dug into the cream and fruit on the cake in big mouthfuls.
"Eat slowly, no one is going to snatch it from you." Xu Cheng'an said softly.
Jiang Qixin's hand holding the cake stopped in mid-air. She thrust the fork into the cake. Her eyes seemed to fall on Xu Cheng'an.
He sat up straight and looked at her hopefully, but saw Jiang Qixin raise her hand and slap a mosquito in front of her to death.
The hope on Xu Cheng'an's face completely disappeared after Jiang Qixin lowered her head again. Yes, she couldn't see him at all now, let alone know of his existence.
She lowered her head and looked at her palm stained with mosquito blood with some disgust, then stood up and walked towards the bathroom.
Remembering Jiang Qixin's previous experience of accidentally falling in the bathroom, Xu Cheng'an quickly stood up and followed her. He only breathed a sigh of relief after watching her wash her hands and walk back to the living room.
After breakfast, Jiang Qixin sat on the sofa, drinking milk and watching TV. It was just like her previous weekends when she lived alone, dull and boring.
Xu Cheng'an did not struggle anymore. He just sat quietly beside her, occasionally talking to her when she was talking to herself, even though Jiang Qixin could not hear his voice.
Xu Cheng'an guessed that she must be relatively calm now, otherwise she would not have such a dull dream.
He slowly accepted the fact that she couldn't see him. At least he could still be a permanent guest in her dreams, which was not a bad thing.
Jiang Qixin got up late in the morning, and it was soon time to make lunch. Jiang Qixin hesitated for several minutes between ordering takeout and cooking it herself.
Finally, because he had saved a cooking tutorial last night, Jiang Qixin decided to cook lunch himself.
Jiang Qixin placed the phone on the table, and with some difficulty, her water-stained fingers slid the phone over and over, "Baking soda, salt, peanut oil..."
She poured a mess into the bowl while watching the tutorial.
"Defrost the beef and cut it into thin slices." Jiang Qixin muttered to himself, picked up the kitchen knife and hesitated for a while whether to cut the beef along the grain or perpendicular to the grain.
"Forget it, as long as it can be cut into thin slices." She picked up the knife and cut confidently.
As a result, before she could cut a few thin slices, the sharp blade cut across her left index finger. At the first moment of being cut, Jiang Qixin didn't feel her hand being cut.
It was not until the blood from the beef stained her wound that Jiang Qixin realized she had cut her hand.
She subconsciously threw the knife onto the chopping board and held the wound tightly with her right hand.
Xu Cheng'an raised his hand and wanted to hold her hand and wash it with clean water, but his hand went straight through her body.
His body stiffened for a moment. Why would he cut his hand in his dream?
Even though this was a dream, he still felt a little distressed.
"Xu Cheng'an."
Hearing his name, Xu Cheng'an subconsciously looked at her.
"Cooking is so hard. I don't want to cook for myself anymore." She raised her head and said to the air. Maybe it was because it was too painful, but she cried uncontrollably.
Xu Chengan raised his hand to wipe away the tears from her face, but failed again.
When Xu Cheng'an was a child, his parents were very busy at work and often went on business trips. They usually got off work later than they got off school, so every night it was almost always the two children who cooked at home and waited for their parents to come home.
To be precise, it should be Xu Cheng'an who cooks and Jiang Qixin who is responsible for tasting the food beside him.
Although she is not a rich lady, Jiang Qixin really lives a life without having to do housework.
Even when she grew up, Xu Cheng'an was still responsible for cooking. Sometimes he would teach her the cooking steps, but that was all he did.
In the end, Jiang Qixin ordered takeout and put the beef back in the refrigerator to freeze, thinking of cooking it in the evening when her hands didn't hurt so much.
An ordinary day turned into a frustrating day. Jiang Qixin's hands were a little sore. After a quick lunch, she fell headfirst onto the bed in the room again.
Now perhaps only the bed could provide her with emotional value. Jiang Qixin wrapped herself in the quilt, including her head, and fell into a deep sleep.
"Go to sleep if you're tired. Sleeping in a dream is also considered sleeping." He sat by the bed and gently lifted a corner of the quilt, allowing her head to be exposed to the air again.
She slept for a very long time, so long that Xu Cheng'an found it a little strange. The dream did not end, and Jiang Qixin in the dream never woke up.
Just as he bent down and lowered his head to look at her sleeping face carefully, Jiang Qixin's eyelids trembled, and then he slowly opened his eyes.
"Brother?" She narrowed her eyes. She was a little dazed from her sleep and actually called out this name that she hadn't called in nearly ten years.
She raised her hand and touched the face of the person in front of her.
With her palms pressed against his chin, Xu Cheng'an felt the warmth of her palms.
Xu Chengan was a little surprised that she could see him.
Xu Cheng'an smiled at her gently, raised his hand and placed his palm on the back of her hand. His hand could completely cover Jiang Qixin's hand.
"I must be dreaming. Xu Cheng'an has been dead for a long time." She murmured, frowned, closed her eyes tightly, and then tried to open them again, but found that she did see Xu Cheng'an.
"Ah!" Jiang Qixin was startled and sat up.
"You, why are you here?"
"Jiang Jiang, I'm always by your side, protecting you."
He raised his hand and touched her head as if to comfort her. "Maybe I'm too obsessed."
Jiang Qixin blinked and threw herself into Xu Cheng'an's arms. In her dream, her perception of temperature was very weak, and she didn't care why Xu Cheng'an's body was not warm when she hugged him.
But she knew that she had truly embraced Xu Cheng'an.
She untied her arms, raised her head and placed a quick kiss on the corner of his mouth.
Xu Cheng'an was stunned for a moment, raised his hand and touched the corner of his mouth where she had pecked him, and smiled with the corner of his mouth curved up.
In the dream, Jiang Qixin didn't wonder why she could see Xu Cheng'an's soul.
After all, dreams are often illogical, and many things you do in dreams don’t require reasoning.
The scene in front of him was like a special effect in a movie editing, slowly changing from black and white to color. Xu Cheng'an, who had regained his color perception, was a little surprised. He stood there in a daze, slowly watching the scene in front of him become clearer and clearer.
Her world became colorful again.
Jiang Qixin's stomach made a muffled gurgling sound through her clothes and quilt, and she touched her stomach with her hand.
"Are you hungry? I'll be the chef tonight and make you whatever you want to eat." Xu Cheng'an pinched her face.
"But there doesn't seem to be much food at home, only beef and cabbage."
"Then let's go to the supermarket downstairs to buy some vegetables."
"OK."
Jiang Qixin is the main god in his dream. Since Jiang Qixin in the dream can see him, everyone can see Xu Chengan.
Xu Cheng'an walked in the dream she had woven like a living person.
It's rush hour right now, and there's a residential area nearby, so the traffic is completely blocked.
They were just like before. Xu Cheng'an got off work and Jiang Qixin had no classes that day, so they went to the supermarket to buy groceries and then returned to the apartment to cook dinner together.
When they came out of the supermarket, both of them were carrying large and small bags, but the heavy ones were in Xu Chengan's hands.
Jiang Qixin saw the fruit shop across the street and said, "There are oranges there. I suddenly want to eat some. I'll go buy some. You stay here and watch over the vegetables."
"Well, no rush. I'll wait for you here." Xu Cheng'an took the things in her hand and stood aside waiting for her. Looking at her back as she walked across the zebra crossing, his eyebrows suddenly jumped.
Thinking that two people couldn't eat much, Jiang Qixin picked four oranges. When she came out of the fruit shop, she smiled in the direction of Xu Chengan.
The pedestrian light turned green, and Jiang Qixin walked back towards Xu Chengan carrying oranges.
Suddenly, some strange noises were heard not far away, like the abnormal friction sounds of car tires and the ground.
A car sped towards her, as if it had lost control and rushed towards her without any hesitation.
"Jiang Jiang!" Even though Xu Cheng'an knew that this was a dream and that the scenes in front of him were fake, when he saw Jiang Qixin having an accident in front of him, his mind went blank almost instantly.
Xu Cheng'an could change the scenes in her dreams, but he didn't know why he couldn't change the scenes in front of him.
Hearing Xu Cheng'an's voice, she subconsciously looked up and looked at Xu Cheng'an.
There was a loud noise in my ears, and the car tires made a huge friction sound with the concrete ground.
Jiang Qixin lost all consciousness in an instant.
The scene in front of me was distorted, as if I had entered a chaotic space. There were very strange and harsh sounds all around, and it was pitch black all around.
Xu Cheng'an woke up in shock. To be more precise, it was Jiang Qixin who woke up in shock.
Her eyelids were raised, and her round pupils were trembling in her white eyes which were mixed with a few traces of blood.
Her hand subconsciously reached out to her side, and in a moment, a familiar big hand appeared in mid-air and held her hand.
Just like when she was a child and was woken up by thunder in the middle of the night, she could always hold Xu Chengan's hand.
Xu Cheng'an looked more frightened than Jiang Qixin. He sat up and stared at Jiang Qixin beside him.
Jiang Qixin was breathing heavily. She felt her heart pounding and her chest rising and falling with her breathing.
The scene of herself being hit by a car in the dream was so real that it made her feel as if there was some pain in her body.
She sat up and looked at Xu Cheng'an.
The only sound in the silent house was her own breathing. "Was that just a dream we had together?"
Her voice was a little hoarse as she hadn't spoken for a long time, but Xu Cheng'an heard clearly what she said.
He held her hand tightly, and for a moment he lost control and caused her some pain.
Jiang Qixin subconsciously shook off his hand.
Seeing Xu Cheng'an's somewhat abnormal expression, she waved her other hand in front of him and said, "It's just a dream. Zhou Gong's Dream Interpretation says that dreaming of being hit by a car is a good omen, indicating..."
It indicates that you are in good health.
Before she could finish her words, her hand, which was suspended in mid-air, was grasped by Xu Cheng'an again, and she fell towards him.
"Jiang Jiang, don't, don't leave me." Xu Cheng'an threw himself in front of her, his powerful arms firmly holding her body, as if Jiang Qixin would disappear from his sight if he relaxed his hands a little.
Jiang Qixin had just recovered from the shock of waking up from a dream, and was now a little confused by Xu Chengan's actions. Jiang Qixin looked at the dark room where she couldn't see her hand in front of her face, and was held in his arms in a daze.
"I, didn't leave you..." After a while she spoke in a very soft voice.
But Jiang Qixin felt that the arm around her waist seemed to be even tighter.
Their bodies were pressed tightly together, and Jiang Qixin felt that she could feel the movements and ups and downs of Xu Cheng'an's muscles.
"Don't leave me." Xu Cheng'an just repeated these words.
Xu Cheng'an thought about why he had to go against the laws of nature and return to the human world.
Because just one year after his death, he saw Jiang Qixin's name in the Book of Life and Death.
