Master 23
Song Jing slept very well the night before. As far as she could remember, she didn't have any dreams the entire night and slept almost until dawn.
But for He Mian, this night was particularly difficult. It was he who suggested sleeping together, but he didn't expect that he would not be able to sleep.
Song Jing's hair still had some warmth from being blow-dried. He leaned in and sniffed it. Now he was surrounded by her scent, which made him feel comfortable but also a little hot.
He Mian put his hands around her waist and looked sideways at her as her breathing gradually became smoother.
Although Song Jing had taken the initiative to hug him at first, she soon felt tired of the position and turned over to lie on her back. He Mian leaned against her, his free hand twirling the corner of her pajamas.
Song Jing's sleeping posture wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad either. Aside from tossing and turning a few times in the middle of the night, she didn't move much. A small nightlight sat by the bed, its dim light illuminating her face and making her eyelashes stand out. He Mian lay on the bedside for a long time before he felt a little better.
It has been a long time since I could just lie in the same place with her and rest like this.
He Mian's heart couldn't stop churning, and he was very excited. It was a very happy thing for him to be completely filled with Song Jing's scent in his own territory.
He turned around and gently held her hand, watching her sleep like this. Just like the little rabbit used to watch her sleep.
It was not until the morning when He Mian was awakened by the discomfort in his body. He pressed his temples which were swollen and painful, and his forehead was extremely hot. He Mian frowned and quickly realized that something seemed to be wrong with his body. He lowered his head and looked at his red hands, feeling a little puzzled. His work had been very easy recently, so easy that he could spend almost every night with Song Jing.
His body had never experienced a large loss of energy, so why were his symptoms now exactly the same as those of the cat's last estrus period?
The temperature displayed on the thermometer was also incredibly high. Fortunately, he still had the fever-reducing medicine he'd received from the hospital last time. He pulled himself up and made breakfast, ate a few quick bites, and then took the medicine, hoping to alleviate the symptoms in his stomach.
The incident happened suddenly, so He Mian had to go to Yu Wenjing's house. It was not yet eight o'clock when he left.
Yu Wenjing, who had finally had a day off, was a little annoyed when He Mian woke him up early in the morning. But before he could get too annoyed, he was shocked by He Mian's current state. This was also the first time he had seen He Mian with such symptoms. If it was just a simple fever, it would be fine, but this was not a simple fever.
"Have you done anything strange recently?" He and He Mian sat upright on the sofa.
He Mian shook his head. "No, I've been resting for a long time since I injured my arm. After all, I'm not the only cat in this area to manage."
He Mian subconsciously glanced at his arm as he spoke. "The wound healed a long time ago. To prevent Jingjing from getting suspicious, I left a scar. That incident did cost me a lot of energy, but it shouldn't have happened just now."
Almost a month has passed.
Yu Wenjing wiped his glasses and put them back on. He Mian's superficial reaction looked no different from a cold or fever, but he knew the real ailment was definitely not that. "Did it take you five days to fully recover last time?"
"Yeah, but I stayed with Jingjing the whole time last time, and there was some relief for a few days in between." He Mian recalled.
"You are with her now, so why don't you just pretend to be sick and stay with her until you recover in five days?" He subconsciously thought of the most straightforward and simple solution.
He Mian shook his head slightly. "She'll get suspicious. She thought I was weird last time. And we've been together a lot lately, including last night." He paused. "A sudden high fever is totally unreasonable. I suspect I'll soon lose most of my strength and consciousness."
"What do you mean by being together last night?" Yu Wenjing quickly caught the key words in his words. To be a doctor, one must be good at Chinese.
He Mian held his forehead and said, "We just hug each other and sleep, don't think too much." He knew that the current progress between the two of them was not enough for Song Jing to have a deeper communication with him. His desire to stay with Song Jing was just a simple wish, without any lust or purpose.
"So what are you going to do?"
"You are a doctor, aren't I here to ask you?" He Mian turned his head and looked at him helplessly.
"Did you have breakfast today?"
"I took it." He Mian also told him about the medicine he had taken today.
Yu Wenjing touched his chin and asked, "If I have enough energy, can I turn back into a cat now?"
He Mian was stunned for a moment, then nodded, "I'll try."
-
Song Jing replied to all of He Mian's messages, then went home, washed up, and began to leisurely eat breakfast. However, He Mian on the other side did not reply to her. As was their habit after being together for so long, as long as they were not in a meeting, he would reply to her messages almost immediately, and at the latest, no more than five minutes.
She stared at He Mian's profile picture for a while, and when she finished the last mouthful of porridge, her phone finally vibrated twice with a message reminder. Song Jing lowered her head and found that He Mian had sent several more messages. She squinted her eyes and read them one by one.
He Mian told her that he was on a business trip for an important meeting. Because the meeting was confidential, he couldn't take his phone with him. He couldn't reply to her message quickly. He would probably be back in two days, but it had been difficult to contact him recently. He Mian also reminded her to eat well.
A confidential meeting? Song Jing frowned, thinking for a moment. She could only imagine it was related to a new project at headquarters. After all, she worked in R&D, while He Mian's job was more management and domain development, a significant difference in their roles. Without giving it much thought, she simply sent He Mian an emoji in reply.
Not long after, He Mian sent another message.
[Jingjing, I have something to trouble you with. I promised my friend that I would look after his kitten on weekends, but something happened suddenly and we couldn't agree on a time, so the kitten is left without someone to look after it. Could you please look after the kitten for me on weekends?]
He Mian also sent a picture. Song Jing opened the picture and found that it was the Maine Coon cat that ran to her house last time.
【OK. 】
Song Jing replied and thought that he seemed to have some free time with his phone, so he called him.
But the other party didn't answer.
The phone vibrated again. [Jingjing, I'm sorry, it's not convenient for me to answer the phone right now. I'll come to you as soon as I can.]
[It's alright, you can go ahead and do your work.]
Song Jing added He Mian's cat-raising friend's contact information and then exited the chat. She had an indescribable feeling in her heart, something strange, but He Mian didn't look like someone who would lie to her.
However, the entertainment news on her mobile phone quickly captured her attention, and she no longer thought about He Mian.
After having breakfast and playing for a while, Song Jing helped He Mian clean up the kitchen. When she was about to return home, the doorbell rang. When she walked to the door in her slippers and opened it, she was startled by the person in front of her.
She opened her mouth and subconsciously called out, "Doctor?" Because she had never noticed his name, she only remembered that he was the doctor she and He Mian had registered for at the emergency room of the hospital.
Yu Wenjing was stunned for a moment, "Do you know me?" He thought that He Mian might have mentioned his existence to her.
Song Jing shook her head silently, "Not really acquaintance, I've seen you before at the Central Hospital." She has always had a good ability to remember people. As long as she pays special attention to someone, she can remember them even if she has only met them once.
Song Jing lowered her brows and noticed a silver tabby Maine Coon standing behind him. It was the cat He Mian had sent her a photo of. She was a little surprised, "Are you He Mian's friend?"
No wonder she felt that the doctor looked at He Mian with a different look. It turned out that they knew each other, but Song Jing didn't know why He Mian had never mentioned this to her.
He rubbed his glasses and hummed, then quickly got straight to the point. "I asked him a couple of days ago to look after my cat this weekend." Yu Wenjing lowered his head and glanced at the adult Maine Coon. "I have a job that requires me to go out of town, so I had no choice but to trouble him. I didn't expect he had something else to do, so I'm sorry to bother you."
He pursed his lips nervously, afraid that Song Jing would see that he was helping He Mian lie. He and He Mian had only tried to judge his condition based on his original form, but neither of them had anticipated that after He Mian transformed back into a cat, he would never be able to turn back into a human again...
Yu Wenjing just wanted to judge the condition of the patient based on his physical condition.
He did not have enough energy, and the energy absorbed from external food alone was not enough for He Mian to return to normal. Moreover, he was now affected by the cat's body and was not in a good mood.
The only way now is to let He Mian return to Song Jing and stay close to her all the time.
Song Jing looked at Yu Wenjing, who looked very embarrassed. She quickly shook her head and said, "It's okay, it's okay."
Although she felt it was a bit troublesome, she had already promised He Mian to help look after his friend's cat, so out of courtesy she didn't say anything.
Based on the night they first met, the cat seemed to have a good temper. Fortunately, she had experience caring for Maine Coons, so just two days wouldn't be a problem.
Yu Wenjing briefly told Song Jing everything that He Mian had told him, which was nothing more than trivial matters such as the amount of food the cat ate in a day.
"By the way, Mao Mao has been sick recently, so he may look a little weak, but it's no big deal. I just need you to feed him." As for how to stay with her all the time, it depends on He Mian himself.
Hearing Yu Wenjing say this, Song Jing nodded, "By the way, Doctor Yu, what's the name of this cat?"
Yu Wenjing was suddenly stunned. He and He Mian had discussed many details, but they had forgotten to give a name to him in cat form.
"Um, he...his name is Baobao. He will understand if I call him Baobao."
"Baby?" Song Jing couldn't help but smile. She lowered her head and looked at the Maine Coon cat who looked very serious. She didn't expect that his name was Baby.
The cat looked up at her, then meowed at her. However, the sound he made wasn't very similar to the onomatopeia "meow," but rather sounded a bit like "woohoo."
Yu Wenjing handed the cat to Song Jing and left. Before leaving, the two added each other's contact information. Now He Mian was the only one left at home, and she also had a cat.
Song Jing sat on the sofa and stared at the cat. She tilted her head and found that the eyes of this Maine Coon were also yellow-green. Song Jing couldn't think of a specific color word to describe it, but she knew that it was the same color as Xiaoman's eyes.
Even the little rabbit is a silver tabby Maine Coon.
She felt a little uneasy sitting on the sofa in He Mian's house. The cat seemed very quiet. Was it sleepy? After all, cats can sleep for more than ten hours a day. Or maybe it was a little weak because it had just recovered from a serious illness.
Just when Song Jing was wondering whether she and the cat should just play separately, the Maine Coon took a step closer to Song Jing and then seemed to rub its head against her legs.
This cat was a trap cat, and its meow was particularly sweet, almost like it was acting coquettishly. Song Jing bent down and held her hand out to him, letting him get familiar with her scent before she dared to touch his head.
"Baby, your name is so cute. But you are not a little baby, you are a big baby." Song Jing whispered to the Maine Coon cat, which was at least half her height when standing up. She ran her fingertips from the cat's chin to its head and gently plucked it.
Song Jing knew that her cat-attracting nature seemed to be working again, and the baby seemed to like her very much.
This adult Maine Coon cat was really big. Song Jing bent down and tried to pick him up but failed. She estimated that he weighed more than 20 kilograms.
The cat looked up at her, jumped onto the sofa and sat down, rubbing against Song Jing's thigh and whimpering twice.
Song Jing thought he looked fierce and difficult to get along with, but she didn't expect him to be so gentle.
"So cute." She touched his head and he couldn't stop rubbing it against her palm.
"He Mian will be jealous because I touch other cats. I am touching you secretly now and he doesn't know, hehe." Song Jing thought that this was the cat that He Mian asked her to take care of, so let him be jealous if he wants.
Maomao raised his head and looked straight at Song Jing.
"Do you want to eat? I'll prepare breakfast for you." Song Jing looked at the time and it was time to feed the cat.
It wasn't until she walked to the fully automatic cat feeding bowl that her body stiffened and Song Jing suddenly realized something was wrong.
The baby is so docile and obedient that he is fully capable of taking care of a cat at home by himself. Nowadays, there are all kinds of cat-feeding utensils, which are safe, convenient and automated.
She could understand that Yu Wenjing was a doctor and had to go out suddenly or work urgently, but she had never seen such an urgent meeting in the company that had to start so early in the morning, and according to He Mian, it was a meeting out of town.
Song Jing has also worked in the company for more than four years. After all, she is a senior engineer. Even if the new project is a confidential project, employees of her level will not be completely unaware of it.
He Mian particularly liked to talk to her on the phone, and he would not text her if he could talk on the phone. He had once explained that it was because he liked to hear her voice. But today, she hadn't heard He Mian's voice all day, and all their interactions had been through the phone.
Everything is so weird today...
Although humans have been away from primitive hunting for a long time, the sixth sense to prevent danger is still deeply engraved in their genes.
Song Jing does not believe in ghosts and gods, but believes in these perceptions. After all, many scientific studies have pointed out the reasons and importance of human premonitions.
But the cat's meow at her feet suddenly interrupted Song Jing's confused thoughts.
"Okay, okay, I'll feed you now." Song Jing put aside what she was thinking for the time being. The fully automatic cat feeding bowl was not powered on, so Song Jing simply poured a certain amount of cat food manually.
"Baby, come and eat." Song Jing couldn't help but soften her voice towards the cat.
The Maine Coon walked up to her and rubbed his head against her legs. Then he walked to the food bowl, stretched out his front paws to pick up some cat food, and pushed the cat food on the edge of the bowl to the middle until the cat food formed a cone-shaped point. Then he lowered his head to eat.
Song Jing was stunned. Xiaomian had done this little gesture when eating before, and she remembered it very clearly.
She pursed her lips and looked carefully at the Maine Coon cat in front of her, staring at the clever hair on his ears for several times.
Song Jing hurriedly took out her phone and swiped to the chat box with Yu Wenjing. The page only contained two sentences of greeting between the two people and their contact information.
Song Jing bit her lip, her fingers rapidly tapping away at the keyboard. A third sentence appeared in the dialog box: "Can I ask how old the baby is this year?"
