Master 10
He Mian didn't have to go to work because he was sick, but Song Jing was different. Her unchanging and boring work routine continued as usual. In the morning, she went downstairs to buy breakfast and bought some for He Mian. Except for He Mian checking in on her safety and chatting for a few minutes at noon, the two of them didn't say anything else.
However, Song Jing came home a little late today, and He Mian waited for her at home for a long time. It was not until around five o'clock when Song Jing suddenly asked him what he wanted to eat in the evening that He Mian realized that she had worked an extra half hour tonight.
It was not until the sunset that Song Jing returned home with two servings of takeout.
When she saw He Mian, she still felt that he looked a little tired. Song Jing squinted her eyes and found that He Mian actually did not have dark circles, but his complexion was still a little bad due to his illness.
"Are you still having a fever today?" Song Jing took out the takeaway lunch box and placed it on the table.
He Mian nodded gently, "I have been having a low-grade fever and it won't go down."
Song Jing remembered that she often had fever during her childhood and development. A high fever could usually be cured quickly with an injection, but a low fever was the most troublesome. The side effects of medication were too great, and if she didn't take medication, she had to rely on the body's own immune system to solve the problem. "Are you still having a fever now?" She frowned.
Although He Mian knew that his fever had nothing to do with a cold, in order to avoid arousing Song Jing's suspicion, he still sat a certain distance away from Song Jing.
He looked up at Song Jing, remembering what Yu Wenjing had said to him last night. He Mian nodded at Song Jing, "Well, the fever hasn't gone down since last night."
"How could this happen..." Song Jing's mother had told her before that when she was in kindergarten, she loved to have a fever in the middle of the night. Every time she had a fever, it was very torturous. He Mian looked like he didn't sleep well last night.
She swallowed the rice in the bowl completely and pursed her lips. "Should we go to the hospital again?"
He Mian didn't expect her to say this so soon. Just as he was thinking about how to reply to Song Jing, the lights in the living room suddenly went out.
There was a moment of silence in the air.
Song Jing subconsciously turned around and looked around. She tilted her head and listened and found that all the electrical appliances in the house had stopped working. It seemed that there was a sudden power outage in the house, but there was no circuit breaker.
"It seems like there was a sudden power outage." Song Jing's voice broke the silence in the room.
Then she seemed to hear He Mian's panting. His breathing became more and more obvious in the air, and the irregular and rapid breathing filled their dark space.
Song Jing also noticed that something was wrong with him. She leaned towards He Mian and waved her hand in front of him, "Mr. He?"
"Well, I, I'm here." He Mian looked at her.
Song Jing looked at his unusual eyes.
Although there was no electricity at home, the scene in front of the living room was not completely obscured, as faint moonlight streamed in from the direction of the small balcony.
Song Jing and He Mian's eyes gradually adapted from light to darkness, and the scenes they saw gradually became clearer.
Maybe it was because he happened to be facing the window, but Song Jing saw two stars gathered in his eyes. At first, he thought his eyes were strange, but now Song Jing actually felt that He Mian's eyes seemed to be quite beautiful.
"What's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?" Song Jing hesitated for a moment before asking.
"Well, I'm not quite used to dark environments." He Mian said softly. Cats are nocturnal animals, and their night vision is much better than that of humans.
But He Mian's eyes are now human eyes, and he still can't fully adapt to this change.
And he nearly died that night four years ago.
Song Jing opened her mouth, feeling somewhat curious, but held back her smile out of politeness.
In her eyes, He Mian was probably a handsome man with a good figure and high IQ. He was much taller than her and looked very strong. Song Jing had seen him cooking before, wearing a shirt and an apron with his sleeves rolled up. In her impression, even the muscles on He Mian's forearms were particularly obvious.
Only in these two days did she see He Mian so fragile.
But she didn't expect that He Mian would have such a contrast.
"I have a fear of darkness." He Mian said with a trembling breath. The dark night with street lights and moonlight outdoors was okay for him, but in a slightly enclosed dark space, he found it difficult to control himself.
He Mian didn't seem to be acting at all. Song Jing herself wasn't afraid of the dark, but she knew that this fear was often psychological, and she could imagine the helpless fear. She touched the tip of her nose and could only comfort him in a somewhat lame way, "Don't be afraid, there are two of us here."
"Maybe the electricity consumption is too high in the summer and the supply cannot meet the demand." She stood up and looked around as she spoke.
He Mian reflexively grabbed her wrist and asked, "Where are you going?"
Song Jing lowered her head and stared at his palm for a second, until she pulled her arm and He Mian suddenly let go of her hand, "Sorry, I may be a little too nervous." The tip of his thumb gently stroked her index finger, feeling her residual warmth.
"It's okay, it's okay." Song Jing waved her hands. "I'm too hot. I'll go find a fan."
The temperature in the room without air conditioning began to rise instantly. She ran to the cupboard and rummaged around for a long time before she found the two fans with advertisements printed on them that she had picked up while shopping.
Song Jing handed one to He Mian and began fanning herself with the other. She had no idea that this antique, invented four or five thousand years ago, was still useful in today's technologically advanced world.
"The community has its own emergency power supply system, and electricity should be restored soon." The community where Song Jing lives actually has some history, but her property is the newest one.
She had experienced sudden power outages before, and sometimes the water supply would be cut off suddenly because a water pipe burst somewhere.
"Yeah." He Mian took her fan. His body was both cold and hot and he was a little afraid of the chill, so he just held the fan and didn't blow the wind on himself as hard as Song Jing did.
Song Jing belatedly pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight. The moment the phone light came on, the lights in the room also came on. The sudden bright light made her eyes a little uncomfortable. She squinted her eyes and reached out to block the light in front of her eyes, "What a coincidence."
"By the way, what were we talking about just now?" Song Jing always felt like she had forgotten something.
"Just now you asked me if I wanted to go to the hospital again."
"Oh, oh, yeah." Song Jing suddenly remembered the conversation that had just been interrupted by the power outage. "Do you want to go take another look?"
"Let's wait until tomorrow. If the fever hasn't subsided tomorrow, I might go see him again." He Mian glanced out the window and saw that it was already dark. Song Jing had suddenly worked overtime tonight and didn't look in a good mental state.
He didn't want to ask her to go to the hospital with him late at night. Besides, he was now with Song Jing, and the discomfort he felt had dissipated a lot.
Song Jing nodded without saying anything else. Another advantage of ordering takeout is that you don't have to wash dishes, making it easy to clean up. After He Mian helped clean up, Song Jing pushed him back home, saying, "Patients need to go to bed early and get up early."
He Mian's recent condition forced him to stop all the work at hand, so that he had nothing to do when he returned home.
He sat quietly in front of the small balcony, waiting for the lights in Song Jing's living room to be turned off before he began to wash up and prepare to rest. He Mian knew that Song Jing had a relatively healthy schedule on weekdays. She usually finished washing up around 9:30 and then went back to bed to play for half an hour or an hour before falling asleep.
Today was no exception. Even at nine o'clock, the lights in her living room were turned off, and the light came through the small window in her room instead.
The alarm clock rang on time at 7:30. Song Jing slept well last night. She turned off the annoying alarm clock and rolled around twice in bed before sitting up.
She straightened her pajamas and sat in front of the dressing mirror, combing her messy hair. Suddenly, her phone on the table began to vibrate. Song Jing glanced down and saw that it was He Mian calling her. She continued to comb her hair with her right hand and opened the speakerphone with her left hand to answer the call.
"Hello, what's going on?" Song Jing, who had slept all night, hadn't spoken a word this morning, and her voice was hoarse from just waking up.
"Song Jing, good morning." He paused, "I'd like to trouble you for a moment. Could you please go to my office and get my USB drive for me? Give it to me when you get home tonight." He Mian's voice came from the microphone. This was the first time Song Jing heard his voice from the phone, and it was a little different from when they met face to face.
"Sure, where exactly should I put it? What does the USB flash drive look like?" Song Jing yawned softly and wiped the tears that naturally flowed out with the back of her hand.
"It's in the top drawer on the left. I'll send you a photo of the USB drive later." He Mian still heard her yawn, and lowered his voice a little, saying apologetically, "Did I wake you? Isn't it too early now?"
Song Jing shook her head. "No, I'm already up. I'll bring the USB drive back to you tonight."
"Okay, thank you." He Mian has been in the branch for a while, but he has been very busy with work recently, especially now that he suddenly asked for a five-day vacation. He now has to take some time to deal with work issues.
"Good morning, and I wish you all the best at work." The security guard standing in the lobby of the company's office building is the company's own robot product. Although it is a robot, Song Jing still said "Good morning" to him, and then hurriedly ran to punch in and then walked to He Mian's office.
He Mian's office was an independent office with a password lock and a fingerprint lock on the door. She entered the password He Mian gave her and went in.
He Mian and she did not have much interaction at work, so she had not been to He Mian's office before today.
Song Jing pushed open the office door and walked straight to his desk. She had no intention of looking at the decoration style of He Mian's office, but Song Jing's attention was still attracted by the decorations on his desk.
He Mian's office is simple in color, with black, white, and gray as the main colors. However, there are many ornaments on his desk.
There’s nothing special about common decorations like the globe, but the other ornaments are all brightly colored spherical ornaments, and the blue, yellow and green tones are inexplicably abrupt among the black, white and gray.
Song Jing looked at the ornaments and thought that He Mian's aesthetic taste was quite peculiar. However, she did not forget to help He Mian get the USB drive. Soon, she stopped worrying about the ornaments on He Mian's desk.
As soon as she opened the drawer, she saw He Mian's USB flash drive, but in addition to that, she also saw a collar with a bell in the drawer.
Song Jing frowned and looked at the collar for two seconds in some confusion. She silently closed the drawer, put the USB drive in her bag, and quickly left He Mian's office.
