Master 24
Yu Wenjing didn't find out the message from Song Jing until he got home and had breakfast. He frowned and sighed anxiously.
He Mian is different from him. He Mian has always lived in this world in human form, while he first had the form of a killer whale and then the form of a human.
So Maine Coons don't have a real age... He Mian can grow to any size he wants. He only knows that his current form roughly represents the age of an adult Maine Coon.
Song Jing didn't receive Yu Wenjing's reply until Maomao finished his meal.
Probably around three or four years old.
Yu Wenjing had no choice but to convert He Mian's real age and the average age of Maine Coon cats.
"Three years old..." she muttered to herself. Song Jing raised her eyebrows and calculated with her fingers that if Xiaomian was still alive, he would be five years old now.
She sighed silently. Sure enough, she was overthinking it again. When the rabbit disappeared, her heart would tighten every time she saw someone else's Maine Coon cat. Unfortunately, she always knew for sure it was someone else's kitten, not her rabbit.
Song Jing sat on the sofa and stared out at the large balcony for a while. The cat had finished its meal and walked to her feet. Its furry tail brushed across her ankle. Song Jing subconsciously reached out and patted it, only to realize it was the cat coming over.
There was a carpet on the sofa in He Mian's house, and the cat sat on the carpet, leaning against her legs.
Song Jing lowered her head, watching his round eyes stare back at her. Maine Coons, when grown up, are somewhat different from other cats. This breed tends to look rather cold and stoic. They're quite cute when young, but can become a bit fierce as they grow older. However, the clingy ones can be incredibly clingy, even meowing to seduce humans.
The cat's tail stood upright in the air, sweeping slightly around Song Jing's calves.
Song Jing was a little bored and started talking to the cat, "Baby, your tail is so beautiful." She gently touched the hair on his tail. The baby's hair was well-groomed, and his tail looked like a furry scarf.
But she didn't know if she could touch his tail casually, so she just stroked it very lightly.
The Maine Coon hummed and moaned at her, probably trying to be cute with Song Jing, then jumped onto the sofa and moved closer to her. Its tail swept across her arm, making Song Jing feel a little itchy.
The cat adjusted its posture and let its tail hang on Song Jing's leg, as if letting her play with it.
His tail was very long, long enough to sweep across her thighs. Song Jing lowered her head and looked at the cat's tail. "You took the initiative."
As she spoke, she finally reached out and touched the cat's tail. The cat just hummed in comfort and didn't resist at all.
He really didn't look very energetic, as if he had just recovered from a long illness. After barking a few times, he lowered his head and lay quietly on the sofa. He ignored his tail when it fell into Song Jing's hand.
Song Jing looked around the house. She and Maomao were still staying at He Mian's house.
He Mian's house has a cat climbing frame and many new kitten toys. Apart from the small nest she bought for Xiaomian before, her house doesn't have any cat-related items. She is a little hesitant about whether she should continue to stay at He Mian's house to help take care of the kitten or go back to her own home.
Song Jing didn't think for long before she stood up and decided to go back to her own home. After all, He Mian was not at home, and it would not be good for her to be alone in his house. She glanced at the cat, took a kitten toy from the box, turned around and said to him, "Do you want to go home with me?"
She also wanted to get a toy to attract the cat's attention so that the cat would follow her, but she didn't expect that before she could take out the toy to lure the kitten, he jumped down from the sofa and followed her.
Song Jing closed the door and finally returned home. The cat followed her quietly as before, occasionally nudging her legs with its head to ask her to touch it.
Even when Song Jing was cooking at noon and took out the vegetables from the refrigerator to make lunch, she thought the baby would play by himself in the living room, but she didn't expect that he would follow her even when cooking.
Her cooking skills weren't actually that bad that the food was inedible, she was just sometimes too lazy to cook and her skills weren't very good. However, since He Mian came home, she cooked less and less, and her hands became a little clumsy.
She was swiping her phone with her wet hands, following a cooking tutorial. A cat crouched beside her, looking up at her. It wasn't until she saw a gray shadow in her peripheral vision that she realized the cat was standing at her feet.
Song Jing lowered her head and looked at him. Suddenly, she seemed to understand why Dr. Yu asked He Mian to take care of the cat. She had never seen such a clingy cat. It obviously didn't look very comfortable, but it still followed her.
I have the impression that Xiaomian is also very clingy, but not to this extent.
She didn't know how a cat could be so trusting of a human being whom it had only met once or twice. This was not a good thing for the kitten, but fortunately, it was a domestic pet cat and would not be easily in danger.
"Baby, I have to cook first and can't play with you." Song Jing explained to him patiently.
The cat tilted its head and called out to her, but continued to squat beside her obediently, not leaving or asking her to play. Song Jing didn't have the heart to chase him out, so she had to be careful with her steps, for fear of stepping on the cat.
Even when she put the dishes on the table and prepared to eat lunch, the cat still followed her.
Song Jing patted the empty chair beside her and asked, "Want to sit down?"
The cat jumped onto the chair and sat down obediently.
"So good." Song Jing couldn't help but touch the baby's head. The kitten rubbed its cheeks against her palm, making Song Jing feel a little itchy. "Okay, let me finish my meal first and then I'll play with you."
Half a day passed, and He Mian still hadn't sent her a message. Song Jing asked him if he had eaten lunch, but He Mian still hadn't replied. Just like he had said in the morning, it seemed that he really didn't have his phone with him.
Originally, I thought I could stay with He Mian the whole day today. He Mian was extremely clingy. Whenever it was a weekend, the two of them would stay together almost the whole day. Song Jing missed He Mian and the sweet smell on his body.
After dinner, Song Jing played with the cat for a while. The kitten seemed to like Song Jing very much. It didn't run around or jump around, but just rubbed her skin gently. The cat was very clean and even smelled a little sweet. Song Jing let go of the cat and petted it.
"I can't take it anymore. My legs are a little numb from squatting." Song Jing pressed her heels and quickly stood up. Because she had been squatting on the ground playing with the cat, her calves felt numb as soon as she stood up.
Seeing her like this, the cat hugged her legs as if to give her some relief. Song Jing couldn't help but smile. This cat was quite clever.
He was so smart that even when Song Jing was sitting in front of the computer, he would just sit quietly on the ground and rub Song Jing's ankles with his cat-like tail.
However, He Mian still hadn't replied to her message. Song Jing contacted her closest colleagues and superiors, but they still didn't know about the meeting at headquarters. Everything seemed to tell her that He Mian seemed to be hiding something from her.
The more Song Jing thought about it, the more upset she became. She turned on her computer and searched online based on her memory for He Mian's hometown. It was actually only 400 kilometers away from her home, which was not a far distance. It was even closer than the distance from her hometown in City A.
She knew the city where He Mian was from, but she didn't know the specific streets and areas. However, the information and data she searched for was very limited.
Song Jing switched to another search engine and indeed found the address on He Mian's ID card on the map, but the search yielded only a very brief description, stating that the street belonged to a certain district or city, without any more specific information. However, the internet generally included information on the history and development of various regions, even if it was just a remote village.
Song Jing's fingertips tapped the table nervously, "Strange..."
He Mian's academic credentials are genuine; they are indeed alumni, having both received undergraduate and graduate degrees from University A. Like her, He Mian started working at their company right after graduation, initially at the headquarters before transferring to a branch in a neighboring city. She later returned to headquarters and only joined her current branch this year.
When Song Jing took off her glasses, she felt her eyes a little sore. She looked back at her big bed and felt sleepy. She turned off the computer and went straight back to bed.
There is no problem that can't be solved by a good night's sleep. If there is, just sleep a few more times.
Song Jing put all her doubts behind her and lay straight on the bed, but she tossed and turned and couldn't fall asleep. She turned over and touched her cell phone.
She was lying on her side on the bed, yawning and looking at her phone. As she looked, she naturally felt sleepy and wanted to sleep.
Her hand, suspended in the air, was tickled by a tuft of fur. She put down her phone and reached out to touch the baby's head.
"I'm going to take a nap." She said it somewhat tactfully. Although she knew that cats could not fully understand humans, she could feel that the cat in front of her was very smart and obedient, and would not destroy the house or make trouble.
The cat sat on the edge of the bed, tilted its head, and then lay down on the floor in front of the bedside table.
"Are you going to bed too?" Song Jing's eyes lit up. "I'm sorry I can't let you go to bed."
She gently touched the cat's ears and said, "But it's okay to sleep in the room." She yawned again. Song Jing put her phone away and her free hand was still touching the cat's head.
As she was caressing herself, she fell asleep before the cat did, with one of her arms still hanging in the air.
Song Jing changed into a short-sleeved nightgown when she went to bed, with her arms exposed in the air. Maomao looked up at Song Jing's arms and put his head into her hands, but he was afraid of waking Song Jing up, so he only dared to touch her lightly.
The discomfort in his body seemed to gradually disappear after staying with Song Jing for a long time.
There was no need to turn on the air conditioner in this weather. Song Jing was only covered with a thin quilt and holding the doll that He Mian had bought for her when they went shopping together. Occasionally, a gust of wind blew in and lifted the gauze curtains.
She slept quite deeply this time. She got up to go to the bathroom once and then went back to sleep. As a result, she slept for the whole afternoon. When she sat up because her head was dizzy, it was already dark outside.
As autumn and summer approach, the sun sets earlier and the daytime hours are noticeably shorter.
Song Jing's biological clock was disrupted, and she slept for too long, resulting in insufficient blood supply to her brain. She felt a little drowsy. She blinked her eyes hard and struggled to get out of bed.
"Baby?" The first thing she did when she woke up was to look for the cat. After all, it was someone else's cat, and she would be responsible if anything happened to it.
Song Jing glanced around the room and found that the cat was not in her room. "Baby?" She tried calling the kitten's name again.
The cat had been with her all day, but now she couldn't find it.
Song Jing hurriedly put on her slippers and pushed the door open before walking out of the room. However, when she walked out of the living room, she didn't see the cat, but she did see He Mian, a living person.
"He Mian, why are you back?" Song Jing was a little surprised. She had just woken up and had not had time to comb her hair when she walked out of the room.
"Well, I came back after I finished my work. Why did I take such a long nap today?" He Mian had just washed the rice and cooked it, and had not yet started to stir-fry the dishes.
"Where's the baby?" Song Jing paused, "Where's your friend's cat?"
He Mian's eyes wandered uncomfortably, "Sent it back."
"Didn't your friend say he was busy? Could it be that he just finished his work today?" Song Jing narrowed his eyes and looked at He Mian, becoming subconsciously alert.
Although He Mian is good-looking, he looks very serious and always looks solemn.
Only when she was acting coquettishly would her eyes look a little fragile. Normally, when she was talking to him, his eyes would always look straight at her, never avoiding her sight.
"Yeah." He responded softly, then took a few steps forward to stand in front of her, leaned over and hugged her, "I haven't hugged you today, let me hug you for a while."
Song Jing subconsciously raised her hand to hug him back, but quickly put it down again. She leaned over He Mian and sniffed him, still smelling that familiar scent. Suddenly, she stood on tiptoe, tilted her head, and bit He Mian's neck.
She bit him neither lightly nor heavily, but He Mian didn't react to her biting him for a moment. When Song Jing bit his neck, he gasped subconsciously, "Jingjing..."
He Mian could hardly contain his joy as she had been called baby all day.
In his eyes, Song Jing's biting him was an ambiguous and flirtatious action. He Mian excitedly lowered his head and kissed Song Jing's ear, moving the kiss down little by little until it touched the side of her neck.
Song Jing felt itchy when she was touched. Although she was not very happy, she still couldn't help giggling.
She reached out and pushed He Mian's shoulder hard before pushing him away completely. Song Jing closed her mouth to hold back her laughter and put on a serious look, "He Mian, are you hiding something from me?"
Both she and He Mian are straightforward people. Since they have such a close relationship, they just say whatever they want.
Song Jing didn't want to go around in circles with He Mian. From the very beginning, the fact that He Mian was able to buy a house in this old community and happened to become her neighbor was already a little beyond her expectations.
He seemed to know her very well, and he would remember clearly any habit that Song Jing had not shown to him on purpose.
He Mian smiled and said, "Jingjing, what do you want to ask?" He was inexplicably nervous. During the day, this strange estrus period made him feel very uncomfortable and he couldn't always pay attention to Song Jing's emotions.
Fortunately, he recovered after being with her for a whole day, but he still seemed to have a low fever.
"You're acting strangely today, and your friends are a little strange too. I have a feeling you're hiding something from me. Did you really go to the headquarters for a secret meeting today?"
He Mian's phone was no problem for her; she could look at it whenever she wanted, and sometimes he would even show it to her on his own initiative. Generally speaking, Song Jing didn't notice anything wrong with him, and he didn't seem to be unfaithful in his relationship.
But she was feeling so uncomfortable now, the feeling of having so many questions swirling in her mind was tormenting her. Song Jing had always been the type of person who had to solve problems immediately, even if the experiment couldn't be completed, she would keep working on it.
He Mian frowned, sighed, and pulled Song Jing to sit on the sofa. "Jingjing, I can tell you, but don't be too surprised. Be mentally prepared."
"Mental preparation?" Song Jing frowned and her heart seemed to beat faster.
"I am very obedient and loyal. It's not a matter of feelings." He Mian sat upright, fearing that Song Jing would suspect that he had done something wrong to her.
"Okay, go ahead."
"You picked up a Maine Coon kitten near the school garbage dump. It was only about one month old at the time." He Mian began to talk about the past.
"Yeah, didn't I tell you that before?"
"That cat is a silver tabby Maine Coon."
"Yes." Song Jing nodded, then she looked at He Mian excitedly, "Are you trying to say that the baby is a rabbit?!" Song Jing subconsciously grabbed He Mian's hand.
Although she had asked Yu Wenjing in the morning that the baby was only three or four years old this year and did not match the five-year-old rabbit, there was actually not much difference between a four-year-old Maine Coon cat and a five-year-old Maine Coon cat.
It's also possible that Dr. Yu simply doesn't know the baby's true age.
So the baby was so clingy because he recognized her? Song Jing's mind was a little confused now. She was even thinking about how to snatch her little rabbit back from Dr. Yu.
He Mian choked, but what Song Jing said was indeed right. He pursed his lips and nodded.
"Really? Really?" Song Jing subconsciously used some strength to grab He Mian's hand, even leaving some red marks on his hand. "I want to see the baby, I want to see Xiao Mien."
"Jingjing, don't get excited yet." He Mian was a little afraid of scaring her. She completely forgot that she was just suspecting that there was something wrong with him, and what she suspected had nothing to do with cats.
He held Song Jing's hand in return, "But I can't see him now."
Song Jing frowned, "Why?"
He lowered his eyebrows and whispered, "Little Rabbit is me. He can't turn into a cat."
"He Mian, are you kidding me?" Song Jing patted his strong arm.
"Jingjing, I'm serious. The date we meet is August 15th. Didn't you notice that when you saw the Maine Coon cat, you didn't see me, and when you saw me, you couldn't see the Maine Coon cat?"
She pulled her hand out and looked at He Mian with some confusion.
"Doctor Yu can testify that I remember very clearly what happened to you and me over the past six months. I came back this year just to find you." He Mian continued to explain, "My master."
Song Jing wondered for a moment if He Mian was suffering from schizophrenia. She raised her hand and touched He Mian's forehead and found that he was indeed running a fever. "Why do you have a fever? It's so high. Are you talking nonsense?"
"Jingjing, you don't believe me?" He Mian said with a wry smile, "Then I'll change back to my original form in front of you and show you."
Although he knew that his current physical strength might not be enough to support him to repeat it, He Mian was now eager to verify it.
What's more, Song Jing cares very much about Xiaomian being alive, which shows that she still cares about Xiaomian, so she should care about him too, right?
Fortunately, he was by Song Jing's side, and he was able to completely transform back into the appearance of Maomao and then back into the appearance of He Mian.
-
"Jingjing, you should believe it now, right?" He Mian told Song Jing about his origins and identity while she was stunned.
Song Jing frowned, trying to digest this matter. She even lowered her head and pinched her arm with her hand. Only after she felt a pain did she confirm that she was now in the real world. This was not a dream or an illusion.
"How strange, so strange..." Song Jing said to herself. How could she accept this? She had lived for almost thirty years and had already established a complete worldview. Her work and life were closely related to technology.
Even if you tell her that there are gods, ghosts and non-humans in dimensions beyond this three-dimensional world, she can accept it.
The only thing she couldn't figure out was how He Mian existed in this world.
He Mian's existence has completely shattered her cognition and understanding.
She usually thought it was funny to see the male protagonist turn into a cat in novels, but that was a story made up in the novel, how could it be compared to her current self.
The most important thing is that Xiao Mian and He Mian are completely different to Song Jing, even her feelings towards them are different.
Although she did not call herself the little rabbit's mother when she was raising it, and only called herself sister, she always raised the little rabbit as a baby.
Her feelings for He Mian were obviously romantic, and Song Jing couldn't change it for a while. She didn't know what He Mian was thinking. She only knew that her mind was in a mess, so confused that she could hardly think anymore.
He Mian was frightened by her reaction. He thought Song Jing would be very surprised, but he didn't expect that her reaction would be full of surprise and great resistance.
"Jingjing." He spoke hesitantly and took two small steps towards her.
Song Jing quickly sensed He Mian approaching from the corner of her eye, and she quickly stretched out her hand to block the two of them, "You, don't come over here."
This was the second time Song Jing had said something like this. The last time was because she had misunderstood He Mian as a perverted cat abuser. But this time, she didn't harbor any misunderstandings and spoke from the bottom of her heart.
He Mian looked at her somewhat bewilderedly. He had been through so many things in his life. Whether as a cat god who protected cats or as an ordinary person who simply contributed to the functioning of society, he had encountered many difficulties, but there had never been a time when he felt so helpless.
Her eyes were quite the opposite of his. They were deep-set and usually sparkled, but when she didn't get enough sleep or wasn't feeling well, she'd show a clear unhappy look.
Song Jing has always been a person whose mood is written on her face, not to mention that He Mian knows her so well.
He knew that Song Jing was afraid of the unknown, and he also knew that she was unwilling to face him for the time being.
He Mian thought she would be somewhat happy after knowing the truth.
Song Jing lowered her head and pressed her temples. When she looked up at He Mian again, she found that his expression did not look very good either. However, when he caught her gaze, he still forced out an extremely gentle smile at her.
She turned her head away to avoid He Mian's gaze, "I need to calm down."
"Okay, I'm not in a hurry, and don't be afraid, don't be afraid." He Mian's voice was a little choked. "I'll make dinner first. Let's finish dinner and put these things aside for the time being, okay?"
Song Jing silently took two steps back, her brows still furrowed tightly. She felt a strange feeling in her heart, a little scared and a little confused. But He Mian seemed a little saddened by her reaction. She knew that He Mian seemed to really love her, so she didn't want to make him too sad.
She raised her head, glanced at He Mian, opened her mouth but still couldn't say anything.
"I'll prepare your meal and leave after dinner. Jingjing, calm down first. We're not in a hurry." He Mian was still trying to comfort her.
He knew that if he told Song Jing the truth, she would find it hard to accept it.
Song Jing ran back to her room as if she had escaped in panic. He Mian stood behind her for a moment in silence, then turned around and went back to the kitchen to prepare dinner for tonight.
The door of the room was closed neither lightly nor heavily. Song Jing leaned against the door and took a deep breath. She walked back and forth in front of the bed a little uneasily.
Calm down, calm down... Song Jing brainwashed herself and sat down in front of the computer. She took out her USB drive from her bag and started copying all the documents and data from her recent work. She began to tackle the work at hand. This was the best way to divert her attention.
Song Jing herself didn't know how long she had been calculating the data until there was a knock on the door of the room and she came to her senses from her work.
She walked slowly to the door, looked at He Mian who was still wearing an apron, and said to her, "Jingjing, I've prepared dinner. You're hungry, so hurry up and have dinner. If you don't want to see me now, I'll go back home."
His tone sounded particularly aggrieved. Even though it wasn't his fault, He Mian kept reflecting on whether his method of telling Song Jing the truth was a little too direct.
Song Jing tightened her grip on the door handle. She didn't dare look directly into He Mian's eyes, which were somewhat similar in color to Xiao Mian's. "He Mian, I think we should separate for a while."
"Separate?" He Mian asked in surprise.
"Yeah, that means breaking up."
"Jingjing, why? Don't you like me? I love you too, why do we have to separate?"
Song Jing frowned, "He Mian, you don't even know if your feelings are love or not."
"Jingjing, I love you." He Mian knew that it was meaningless to just talk without doing anything, but he really had always liked Song Jing. His love had always been the great love between animals, and his love for Song Jing seemed to be his only personal love.
"I need time to calm down." Song Jing felt a little uncomfortable and didn't want to say anything.
"The dinner plates are already set. Eat first. Eating is the most important thing. Put other things aside for now." He Mian said, suppressing the grievance in his heart.
"Thank you. You seem to have a fever. Are you sick? Remember to take medicine." This was the last sentence Song Jing said before He Mian left her house.
Seeing him leave, Song Jing breathed a sigh of relief. She saw that He Mian seemed to be about to cry, but she still maintained her attitude.
She is now distraught and really doesn't know what to do.
Song Jing finished her meal with an expressionless face and cleared away the dishes. She then finished her shower with a dull look in her eyes. Not wanting to think about anything today, she decided to go to bed early.
Before she climbed into bed, she received a call from He Mian. According to He Mian's personality, he said he would not disturb her and he would definitely not disturb her unless something happened to him.
Song Jing had no choice but to answer the phone.
Immediately, there was an extremely heavy breathing sound coming from the other side, and Song Jing's hand holding the phone froze for a moment.
"Jingjing, I'm sorry to bother you so late, but I really don't have anyone to turn to right now."
He Mian's voice sounded a little nasal.
"What's wrong with you?" Song Jing asked anxiously.
"I feel very uncomfortable now, I feel dizzy and have no strength at all." He spoke word by word.
Song Jing had seen He Mian like this before. When they first met, it was because he was so sick that he was about to faint that their communication deepened.
She bit her lip and walked out of the room, "I'll come if you just lie down at home."
