Chapter 4
◎How fresh◎
When Liang Beihai received the interview call, he had just returned home from get out of class and was looking at the Polaroid photo of him and Luo that he had gotten from A Yu.
When they were about to part yesterday, Luo called Liang Beihai and A Yu, and as if he was afraid that Liang Beihai would fool them by mentioning the interview, he extended his hand and formally introduced himself.
"My name is Luo De, and I mean 'De' for a specific purpose. Don't mention it when you contact me, lest people think you're using a backdoor. And don't forget to send me your name, number, and basic information."
"Liang Beihai, the simplest Beihai."
"Well, bye."
The two shook hands lightly and said goodbye.
On the way, Ayu asked if it was that person.
Is that the person? Liang Beihai did not answer, thinking about the color of the gemstone on his earrings, which should be ultramarine.
The interviewer only asked a few simple questions and arranged to meet again offline.
"But you may have to wait. I had something urgent to do yesterday and went to the next city. I may not be back until tomorrow. Miss Liang, please tell me when it is convenient for you and we can make an appointment." It was the voice of a very young and clear girl.
"I basically have classes in the mornings," Liang Beihai said as he flipped through the shift schedule sent by the store manager and told him, "I'll be free the day after tomorrow afternoon."
"Okay, I understand."
Liang Beihai breathed a sigh of relief after hanging up the phone, remembering the cute photo frame he had found at the flea market a few days ago, which was just big enough to hold two Polaroid photos.
A Yu gave her three printed Polaroid photos, the other two were a solo photo of Liang Beihai and a photo of Liang Beihai and A Yu taken by Luo.
Liang Beihai clasped his hands together as if possessed by some mysterious force, and said to the air, "I'm sorry, Yu. I'll buy you a separate photo frame later."
Then I flipped through the hard cardboard on the desk and chose a light blue cardboard that was so light that it was almost invisible as the lining and border.
When I was looking for scissors and a ruler to cut the paper, I saw the movie ticket stubs I had casually put in the drawer.
"The people I want to date have no conscience. No one wants to watch a movie with me."
"I went to the next city yesterday for something urgent, and I might not be back until the day after tomorrow."
Liang Beihai laughed self-deprecatingly, put the cardboard back, and stuffed the three Polaroids into the album.
I sat there for a while, stood up, patted my face, packed my clothes and took them to the laundry room to wash them, and called my mother in the laundry room to say hello.
After hanging up the phone, the clothes were not washed yet, so Liang Beihai sat on the lounge chair at the door of the laundry room and continued to be in a daze.
Liang Beihai didn't know what he was feeling lost about. It seemed as if he was certain in his heart that Luo was the person he had in mind, but at the same time he was trying hard to deny it.
She didn't want to know or confirm whether Luo was the one. It seemed that if she confirmed that Luo was the one, she would not be able to face her previous hurt and crying self.
In this unresolved situation, I secretly accumulated sweetness, knowing that he had his own life and someone he loved. That day was just an ordinary encounter, not the "reunion" that both parties knew was right. My fantasy was shattered and I couldn't help crying.
Liang Beihai wiped away his tears, unable to figure out who he was crying for.
Was it the person whom she had a crush on but was ruthlessly rejected and abandoned by him, or was it Luo who was standing in front of her with the shadow of that person.
But whether they are one person or two people, it has nothing to do with me.
Don’t put your feelings that have nowhere to go on strangers and don’t be obsessed with anyone anymore, Liang Beihai.
Luo learned about Liang Beihai's interview time from his subordinates and wanted to contact her again.
She remembered that Liang Beihai said that he hated men flattering her, especially those who acted too familiar with her when they just met. So she silently glanced at the message sent by Liang Beihai and deleted her greetings.
I just told my subordinates that she was working part-time and to try to accommodate her schedule.
On the day of the interview, Liang Beihai felt inexplicably anxious and even had the urge to ruin the interview.
However, out of her desire for money, and thinking that the job that Luo had the nerve to introduce should not be too bad, she simply put on light makeup, wore a black flower-petaled long skirt and shirt, and brought the portfolio she had compiled earlier.
Liang Beihai looked at the distance and realized that he had gone there by bicycle. When he arrived at the address, he spent a long time looking for a parking spot and locked the bicycle.
After confirming that the address was on the 5th floor of an office building, she sent a message to Ms. Zhang saying that she had arrived, but was stopped outside because she did not have an access card.
Liang Beihai actually wanted to follow the destined person in, but he was afraid of being caught by the security guard and affecting the interview, so he chose to wait silently.
Liang Beihai didn't expect that it was Luo who came down. He was quite formal in the office, wearing a suit and tie, but not so formally, with his collar loosened and his cuffs slightly rolled up.
He waved and smiled at Liang Beihai, as if he was not the one who had said a few days ago not to mention him or others would think Liang Beihai had used a backdoor, and the one who had sent Liang Beihai's name, phone number and basic information and had no news since then was not him.
Luo swiped his card from inside and motioned Liang Beihai to come in. Liang Beihai quickened his pace and walked towards him.
Liang Beihai looked at him again. After swiping the card, he pretended to put his hands in his trouser pockets, as if waiting for Liang Beihai to speak. So Liang Beihai commented politely: "You are dressed quite decently."
"How fresh."
Liang Beihai rolled his eyes in his heart, but still smiled: "Yes, yes, then Mr. Luo, let's go up."
The company is very small and only occupies one floor.
Luo De took Liang Beihai through the work area to the office. Liang Beihai thought it would be a conference room or reception room, but it was obviously Luo De's personal office.
"Please sit down." Liang Beihai took out a drink from the small refrigerator behind the desk and handed it to him. It was a can of coffee.
Liang Beihai became confused again. She didn't like the freshly brewed coffee in the coffee shop. She preferred this kind of ready-made coffee in cans and bottles.
Someone too.
Luo used the switch to close the blinds, blocking the occasional glances from the employees outside, and knocked on the table to bring Liang Beihai, who was obviously in a daze, back to his senses.
Liang Beihai hurriedly handed over his portfolio and wanted to introduce himself in a formal manner, but was interrupted by Luo.
"I don't have so many rules here. As long as you are competent, it's fine. It's also a part-time job, so don't be too nervous."
Liang Beihai sipped his coffee, then looked at the brand and memorized it, planning to buy some when he got back.
Luo simply flipped through the portfolio and asked a few questions about the paintings and design drafts in the portfolio, but when he turned to the last page, his movements slowed down.
Liang Beihai remembered which one it was, because he hesitated for a long time whether to put it in. The layout was already done in the front, and the teacher at the time also suggested not to put it in, but he still couldn't bear to put it in, so he put it at the end, which seemed a bit abrupt.
"Can you tell me about this one?"
Liang Beihai hadn't read it for a long time and was almost forgetting it.
The overall color scheme is gray, with a large expanse of gray in the background, dark gray walls, and a light yellow-gray window. The word "video store" is neatly written across the top of the image, followed by a blurry figure standing in front of shelves filled with scattered gray feathers.
In fact, the reason why Liang Beihai considered whether to include this picture was because the style difference was too great, it was very sloppy, and there was no real central idea. Liang Beihai himself was confused.
But I really like it.
"This is a piece I included in my portfolio out of personal affection; it's not a mature, finished product." Liang Beihai paused and began to recall: "At the time, I had a crush on someone much older than me. We were talking about a song. I was in second grade when I heard it, and he was in middle school. Because a large-scale infectious disease broke out that spring, it left a lasting impression on both of us. I thought it was amazing at the time that we didn't know each other over a decade ago, yet we could hear the same song at the same time."
“So I tried to draw it, but despite my best efforts, I couldn’t express it accurately.”
"But I really like it, so I stayed. It can be regarded as an explanation and an ending for myself."
"The person I liked at that time", "explanation and ending", Luo did not speak, but kept thinking about these two sentences in his heart.
Just now, or perhaps it was many moments before: when they first met, when he saw Liang Beihai and A Yu standing together and leaving together, or when he just picked up Liang Beihai, he wanted to tell Liang Beihai the truth and ask her to give him a chance, but he was not sure, especially after he knew that Liang Beihai was really seriously injured at that time.
He does not underestimate himself, but he also does not overestimate himself.
I knew Liang Beihai’s love for me before, and now I also know Liang Beihai’s rejection of me.
He wanted more bonds, wanted Liang Beihai to like him again, and wanted Liang Beihai to have no chance of leaving him.
So he hesitated again.
"That's great. You can discuss the time and work content with Ms. Zhang later."
After saying that, Luo pressed the internal phone, and a young and beautiful lady came in and took Liang Beihai out to explain the work.
After Liang Beihai had a general understanding of the work content and agreed on the working hours, he got the access pass, said goodbye to Ms. Zhang and went back.
"Aren't you going to say hello to Mr. Luo? This is your first time."
"Don't bother me anymore. It's not appropriate. I'll go back first."
After Zhang Xin came in and finished her report, Luo asked again, "Is that all she said?"
"Yes. My memory is fine, and your hearing is fine. If you want to chase her, there's still time to get out now. We all hope that the boss lady will see less of you."
"No overtime today. Just leave work normally. Prepare a welcome party for her when she comes. Don't be too exaggerated and don't talk about the boss's wife. Don't bully children."
As Luo's long-time friend, Zhang Xin wanted to roll her eyes, but facing her inhumane boss, she only rolled her eyes in her heart.
