Chapter 266 (Half)

Wen Shuqiao leaned back in his car seat and watched a video of Can Can sent by his teacher. Can Can and the other children were playing soccer on a small playground and had a lot of fun.

She had finished watching all the short videos and was about to read some novels to find inspiration when the driver's side door was opened.

Wen Shuqiao shifted her gaze from her phone and turned to look at Shen Jiazhou, who had gotten into the car.

She asked, "So fast?"

Shen Jiazhou, while rummaging through his pocket with one hand, replied, "How long would it take to meet?"

After he finished speaking, he took a very round orange out of his pocket: "Sweet."

Wen Shuqiao was about to say something when he was stunned by his gesture of handing her the orange. She reached out and took the orange, saying, "Thank you."

Shen Jiazhou chuckled lightly: "What are you thanking me for? It's just an orange."

Wen Shuqiao looked at the orange in her hand. The orange was only the size of her palm, but it was clear that it had been picked over.

She asked, "Of course, it's to thank you for carefully selecting the oranges."

Shen Jiazhou glanced at it, coughed lightly, and said without changing his expression, "I just grabbed it casually."

Wen Shuqiao went to look for tissues, and Shen Jiazhou asked, "What are you looking for?"

"Tissues are inconvenient to wash..." Before she could finish speaking, Shen Jiazhou naturally took back the orange and peeled it without saying a word.

The car was filled with the fresh scent of oranges, and the next second, the orange peel supporting the pulp was right in front of her.

Wen Shuqiao blinked and took the peeled orange: "...Thank you."

Shen Jiazhou took out a tissue from his pocket, wiped his fingers, and put it back. This time he didn't say anything, but just fastened his seatbelt.

Wen Shuqiao pursed her thin lips, lowered her head and cut the orange in half. She took one half for herself and used the orange peel to support the other half, then presented it to Shen Jiazhou.

Shen Jiazhou looked at the half orange that had been returned, his gaze falling on the exposed fair wrist, and then following the arm to the person.

"I'll give you half," Wen Shuqiao said. "Consider it... a thank-you gift."

"Who gives half an orange as a thank-you gift?" Shen Jiazhou muttered to himself, but still accepted the half orange.

He even brought the orange and peeled it himself.

Wen Shuqiao popped an orange segment into her mouth. The orange was juicy, and with a gentle bite, the sweet orange juice burst in her mouth, making her feel as if she were nestled in an orange cloud.

It was really delicious.

The oranges weren't very big to begin with, and after being shared, they were finished in just two bites.

Shen Jiazhou put the orange peels into his pocket before starting the car.

Wen Shuqiao finished her oranges, and her thoughts drifted back to her own. She asked, "Nothing happened when you went, right?"

"What could possibly happen?" Shen Jiazhou looked at the road ahead. "I already told you I'm perfectly calm."

Whether others are stable or not is none of his business.

As they drove out of the hospital, they came to a red light. Shen Jiazhou stopped the car and, seeing that there were still ninety seconds left on the red light, couldn't help but complain, "This is going to take forever."

Wen Shuqiao glanced at it and said, "That's normal."

Shen Jiazhou leaned back in his chair and turned to look out the window, but after a few glances, he turned his head back.

He said in a flat tone, "The old man wants me to return to the Shen family."

Upon hearing this, Shen Jiazhou couldn't help but sneer: "After letting them work on it for a month, they found that I'm still the most useful."

Wen Shuqiao looked at his profile and said, "You have nothing to do with them anymore."

“Yes.” Shen Jiazhou took a deep breath. “It’s alright now.”

He just didn't expect that the old man wanted to play the family card, but he was getting more and more confused as he got older. That ridiculous family affection had long been sealed in the grave after Shen Jiachen passed away.

Shen Jiazhou turned to look at Wen Shuqiao: "Now it's all good, we don't need to go back for social engagements on New Year's Day, that's great."

Wen Shuqiao's eyes crinkled into a smile: "Finally, I can rest."

I haven't had much rest this past month. Once New Year's Day is over, I can move.

Shen Jiazhou gave a soft "Mmm": "Wait until New Year's Day..."

After meeting Wen Shuqiao's eyes, he for some reason changed the subject: "A friend gave me tickets to a stage play. Since we're both free, shall we take Can Can to see a stage play?"

"Sure." Wen Shuqiao had only seen some stage plays on video and had never actually experienced one.

She recalled Can Can's appearance and couldn't help but say, "I just don't know if Can Can will be able to understand it."

Shen Jiazhou chuckled softly, "It's not bad to cultivate one's character."

If they can't understand, you can hold them while they sleep, as long as you don't disturb them.

Shen Jiazhou doesn't have high expectations for Cancan at all.

Wen Shuqiao nodded, agreeing with Shen Jiazhou.

The red light turned green, and Shen Jiazhou restarted the car. He continued, "Also, the renovation company said the 6th of next month is a good day. Do you think we should start work now, or wait until after the New Year?"

Shen Jiazhou took care of all the renovations for her new home without saying a word. When Shen Jiazhou asked her, she said, "Let's do it on the 6th. The sooner the renovations are finished, the sooner we can put our minds at ease."

Shen Jiazhou glanced at her out of the corner of his eye: "Now that you mention it, you seem to have a lot on your mind? Do you want to tell me? I can give you some advice."

“…To give an example,” Wen Shuqiao said, “I have nothing on my mind.”

Shen Jiazhou snorted, clearly not believing his words.
