A soft, pattering sound came from outside.
Raindrops fell on the leaves, lamps, and the ground. What started as an unnoticed downpour gradually turned into a torrential downpour, accompanied by booming thunder, leaving everyone somewhat bewildered.
Thunderstorms like this are more common in summer; I've never encountered such weather in the dead of winter.
The two people inside the house were not in the mood to care about what was happening outside the window.
Shen Jiazhou took another half step forward, bringing the two of them closer together.
He said, "Shu Qiao."
Wen Shuqiao then slowly turned around and focused her gaze on him.
Shen Jiazhou's gaze was fixed on her face. Although his expression remained calm, his heart had actually been gripped by an invisible hand the moment he uttered those words.
Whether to handle with care or discard carelessly, only one answer is needed.
Wen Shuqiao looked at him too. He was usually decisive and efficient at the company, but now he was like a shy boy, looking at her sincerely.
She opened her mouth, the words circling around her lips, then, as if lost in thought, her expression shifted evasively: "Hmm? What do you know? You're not—"
"Yes, I like you." Shen Jiazhou didn't give Wen Shuqiao a chance to dodge. He quickly said it, and after meeting Wen Shuqiao's eyes, he repeated slowly and seriously, "I like you."
It turns out that saying this sentence is so easy.
Just then, a flash of lightning streaked across the window, followed by a deafening clap of thunder.

The lights went out.
The living room became dim, with only a few faint lights coming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, but Wen Shuqiao and Shen Jiazhou could still see each other's faces clearly.
Shen Jiazhou's Adam's apple bobbed up and down. After a long time without receiving a response from Wen Shuqiao, his gripping heart and the emotions running high gradually calmed down.

Wen Shuqiao raised her hand and hugged him back. Although it was a bit of a mood killer, she still said, "I didn't say I didn't like you, but..."

She patted Shen Jiazhou on the back: "Don't interrupt me."
Shen Jiazhou nuzzled against her shoulder again, his hair brushing against Wen Shuqiao's neck and ear, making her feel a little itchy.
He said, "Then you tell me."
She still acted like a large dog, clinging to me and refusing to let go.
"I do like you," Wen Shuqiao said, "but I'm not sure if there are other factors involved in this liking."
Shen Jiazhou didn't quite understand. If you like someone, you just like them. What other factors could be involved?
Wen Shuqiao patted his back again, signaling him to loosen his grip.
But Shen Jiazhou was reluctant to let go, and he said in a sticky, whiny voice, "I'm listening."
Wen Shuqiao sighed helplessly and voiced her concerns: "We spend so much time together, we're practically inseparable. Sometimes, after a while, the boundaries of our feelings become blurred, and I'm afraid it might just be a misperception, especially with Can Can involved..."
Shen Jiazhou understood what Wen Shuqiao meant, and he immediately replied, "It's not a misperception, my feelings for you are not a misperception."
He grew a little anxious and straightened up to look at Wen Shuqiao's face: "Look at me, it's not a mistake that I like you."
The light was dim, but because we were so close, we could see each other's expressions clearly.
Seeing his somewhat anxious expression, Wen Shuqiao's brows softened a little. She raised her hand to touch Shen Jiazhou's face, and Shen Jiazhou took the opportunity to climb onto her wrist, rubbing his face against her palm, looking extremely aggrieved: "It really isn't my imagination."
Wen Shuqiao said softly and slowly, "I have to take responsibility for you. If we blur the lines, it will hurt both of us."
She paused for a long time before saying, "There are so many good things in the world, how come I've encountered them all?"
So after realizing that Shen Jiazhou might like her, she still felt a sense of unreality and subconsciously wanted to take a roundabout way to escape, calm down, and then think about what to do.
