The next day.
Wen Zhixia was woken up by her biological clock. She sat up, moved her face a couple of times, and glanced at the alarm clock. There were still ten minutes until the alarm.
She turned off the alarm clock, tiptoed out of bed, and was about to go to the bathroom to wash up when Yu Mingxue's bed curtains were lifted.
Wen Zhixia looked at her and whispered, "Good morning."
Yu Mingxue glanced at her, then lowered the curtain again, perhaps having fallen asleep again.
However, this had nothing to do with Wen Zhixia. After washing up, changing her clothes, and picking up her bag, she left.
She took the bus, traveling almost all the way through City A, and finally arrived at Wen Sisi's high school at nine o'clock.
Wen Zhixia had spoken with Wen Sisi's homeroom teacher, so when she got off the bus, she already saw Wen Sisi standing at the school gate.
She walked over quickly, and Wen Sisi waved happily, calling out, "Sister!"
The last time the two sisters met was on Saturday night, but they only saw each other briefly while sleeping and didn't exchange more than a few words.
Wen Sisi jumped up and down and hugged her: "I missed you so much, sis."
Wen Zhixia patted her head: "You look thinner. Don't diet, eat more and be healthier."
Wen Sisi let go of her and said, "Don't worry, I'm in great shape."
Wen Zhixia bent down and handed her the watch she had bought from her bag: "Here, watch, I've already charged it for you."
Wen Sisi glanced at the sports watch on Wen Zhixia's hand, then reached out and took it, muttering, "Sis, I still want the one I like."
"I'll buy it for you when you get into A University," Wen Zhixia said. "Don't be so picky. I don't have a part-time job this Saturday afternoon and evening, so come back early and I'll cook you something delicious."
High school students have a break every Saturday noon until Sunday noon, so Wen Zhixia had no choice but to rent a one-bedroom apartment in City A so that Wen Sisi would have a place to go after school on weekends or during short holidays.
"Oh." Wen Sisi answered while putting on her watch, then waved it in front of Wen Zhixia: "Does it look good, sis?"
Wen Zhixia smiled and said, "You look good in anything."
Wen Sisi finally smiled again and said, "Then I want to eat ribs on Saturday."
"Okay," Wen Zhixia said. "How about I make you sweet and sour pork ribs and braised fish?"
"Okay." Wen Sisi then pulled her and said coquettishly, "Sis, the school food is not good at all. Your cooking is much better."
Wen Zhixia looked down at her, then pinched her cheek. Just as she was about to say something, her eyes caught sight of the necklace she was wearing.
She raised her hand and pulled the necklace out from between her clothes before Wen Si could stop her.
Wen Zhixia asked, "Where did you get the necklace?"
Wen Sisi also raised her hand and pinched the necklace. She said without changing her expression, "I went to a boutique with my classmate before going back to school over the weekend. Isn't it pretty, sis? It's only thirty yuan."
Wen Zhixia took a second look; the quality didn't look like it was from a 30-yuan bag.
Wen Sisi tucked the necklace back under her clothes and said, "Sis, could you give me some more pocket money? I'm going to see a movie with my friends on Saturday, and it's going to get cold soon, so I want to buy a coat."
Wen Zhixia raised her younger sister quite lavishly, giving her pocket money every week. While not exactly spoiled, she was at least raised like any other girl from an ordinary family.
Wen Zhixia took out her wallet and gave her another hundred: "Is that enough?"
Wen Sisi blinked: "Could you give me another hundred?"
Wen Zhixia drew out another hundred-yuan bill.
Wen Sisi said happily, "Thank you, sis~ I love you!"
Wen Zhixia chuckled lightly: "Don't give me that."
However, after thinking for a moment, she still reminded her, "You're a senior in high school now, so you need to focus on your studies, understand? I'll give you some extra lessons when you come back on Saturday."
"Okay, sis." Wen Sisi lowered her eyes and stared at her toes. "I'm going to class now. You should go back too."
Wen Zhixia hummed in agreement: "I'll watch you go in before I leave."
Wen Sisi responded and went inside without turning her head.
Just then, the preparatory bell rang. She watched as Wen Sisi quickly ran upstairs. After confirming that she was inside, she took out her phone and sent a message to Wen Sisi's homeroom teacher.
Wen Zhixia didn't come here today specifically to give Wen Sisi a watch. Her homeroom teacher had messaged her a while ago asking her to come to school, so they met up today.
She entered the school and, following the instructions on her homeroom teacher's WeChat message, found her office.
Wen Zhixia had met her homeroom teacher at last year's parent-teacher conference. The homeroom teacher was also aware of her family's situation. When she saw Wen Zhixia arrive, the teacher smiled and said, "Come on, have a seat."
Wen Zhixia sat down, and her homeroom teacher poured her a glass of water before saying, "I know you have to rush back later, so I'll keep it short. I called you here mainly to talk about Sisi's recent studies..."
When Wen Zhixia left Wen Sisi's school, it was already half an hour later. She boarded the bus with a blank expression, found a seat at the very back, and then closed her eyes in silence.
Wen Sisi's grades have dropped again, which is completely different from what she told me. Moreover, the homeroom teacher said that Wen Sisi has been getting close to a boy from the next class recently, and the teacher has caught them several times.
She then thought of the necklace from earlier. Although Wen Sisi said she bought it herself, her expression and movements were not natural at all.
Wen Zhixia felt her temples throbbing. Although the two sisters would meet briefly on weekends, they could only exchange a few words most of the time because she had to work part-time to support herself and Wen Sisi.
