Wen Zhixia wasn't actually too busy; business was sporadic today, so she had a rare moment of leisure.
At nine o'clock sharp, Shen Jiachen pushed open the door of the coffee shop and walked in.
Wen Zhixia wasn't surprised to see him. Shen Jiachen would come over almost every few days, either ordering a cup of chocolate or a dessert, and would sit quietly in the corner.
She really loves sweets.
Shen Jiachen walked to the counter with a smile. The two were actually much more familiar with each other than at the beginning.
Wen Zhixia asked, "It's so late, what would you like to order?"
"I'm not ordering," Shen Jiachen said. "I was just passing by and saw that the shop wasn't busy, so I came over to chat with you."
Wen Zhixia hummed in agreement and pulled her mask down to her chin.
Shen Jiachen looked at her face: "You don't look too good today. Didn't you sleep well?"
"I went to the hospital with my roommate last night, so I'll be fine after a good rest tonight." Wen Zhixia thought for a moment and then explained, "I fell asleep as soon as I got back to the dorm at noon. I didn't mean to not reply to you."
"I thought..." Shen Jiachen pursed his lips slightly.
Wen Zhixia looked at him, but Shen Jiachen didn't continue. He changed the subject: "Are your roommates feeling better now?"
Wen Zhixia nodded: "I feel better."
Just then, a customer walked in, and Wen Zhixia quickly pulled her mask back on.
Shen Jiachen stepped aside and watched Wen Zhixia take orders from customers. When she faced the customers, her eyes were curved, and even though the mask covered most of her face, her gentle aura could still be felt.
Shen Jiachen found himself unable to look away.
He pursed his lips, but right now he and Wen Zhixia were only at the acquaintance stage. What could he do to make them get to know each other better?
Shen Jiachen was in a bit of a dilemma. He had little experience in striking up conversations with girls, and he was afraid that being too direct would scare Wen Zhixia away.
Just as he was struggling with this, a glass of warm water was pushed in front of him.
Shen Jiachen looked up and saw that Wen Zhixia had pulled down her mask again. Her eyes were still smiling, and the corners of her mouth were raised even more: "Have some water."
"Thank you." Shen Jiachen snapped out of his daze, while Wen Zhixia replied with a smile, "You're welcome."
After saying that, he stood back up. Shen Jiachen thought for a moment, then picked up his cup and walked over. He asked, "Are you staying at the Cloud Temple?"
Yun Guan is the name of the residential complex where Shen Jiachen lives.
Wen Zhixia shook her head: "No, why would you ask that?"
“When I saw you last time, I thought you lived there too.” Shen Jiachen took a sip of the warm water in his cup.
Wen Zhixia asked, somewhat puzzled, "Didn't I deliver a cake last time?"
Why is Shen Jiachen talking so strangely?
Shen Jiachen shook his head: "We met once before this."
Wen Zhixia tried hard to recall, but still couldn't remember when she had seen Shen Jiachen at Yun Guan.
Seeing her somewhat confused expression, Shen Jiachen guessed that she had forgotten.
He reminded him, "Over there, by the artificial hill."

After thinking it over carefully, Wen Zhixia finally found a glimmer of hope in some obscure corner.
She asked hesitantly, "Are you the man who was about to fall that day?"
Shen Jiachen finally showed a relieved expression, seemingly quite happy that she could remember.
Wen Zhixia was genuinely surprised and said, "What a coincidence."
In fact, if Shen Jiachen hadn't hinted at it, she wouldn't have remembered it at all.
Shen Jiachen put down his cup: "Yes, I wanted to thank you that day, but you left so fast that I didn't even have time to react."
Wen Zhixia said "Oh": "I have a tutoring job over there, and I was a little short on time that day."
Shen Jiachen said, "I still want to thank you. When are you free? I'd like to invite you to dinner."
"Really, there's no need." Wen Zhixia still refused, honestly saying, "Even if it wasn't you, I would have caught it anyway, it's just an instinctive reaction."
She caught it on a whim, but luckily she was strong and could stand steadily.
Wen Zhixia silently praised herself in her heart again.
"I should thank you," Shen Jiachen insisted. "If it weren't for you, I might have fallen down those steps and gotten seriously hurt."
Wen Zhixia's words of refusal were on the tip of her tongue, but after meeting Shen Jiachen's eyes, she didn't know how to refuse and couldn't say it: "Okay, thank you for your expense."
Shen Jiachen loosened his grip slightly at his side and said, "It's what I should do. Are you free this weekend?"
Wen Zhixia thought for a moment and said, "How about tomorrow noon? I don't have class tomorrow afternoon, so I can go to Yun Guan for class after lunch."
"Okay, do you have any dietary restrictions?" Shen Jiachen had already started mentally searching for the restaurants he usually ate at.
"There are no dietary restrictions," Wen Zhixia said. "You can arrange it."
Shen Jiachen smiled at her and said, "Okay, I'll wait for you at the school gate tomorrow at noon."
He pushed the cup back: "Thank you for the water. I'm leaving now. See you tomorrow."
Wen Zhixia nodded: "See you tomorrow."
She watched Shen Jiachen leave with light steps, feeling even happier than when he arrived. Wen Zhixia stared at his back for a few seconds, but Shen Jiachen seemed to have eyes in the back of his head, and before she could look away, he turned to look at her as well.
Just like that day, he raised his hand and waved, then his figure disappeared into the night.
Wen Zhixia looked away, and for some reason, she remembered the post she had come across.
University A has its own student forum, where part-time jobs are sometimes posted. Wen Zhixia would check it every now and then.
