Wen Sisi nodded and watched Zhang Lei leave with a smile before turning and walking into the residential area.
Wen Zhixia and Shen Jiachen walked to the riverside park. They were surprised to find that the park was quite lively tonight. Adults were chatting and sending blessings, and children were playing with sparklers. It was a very festive place.
Neither of them were particularly fond of crowds, so they stood and watched for a while before slowly walking along the wooden bridge.
The trees are bare in winter, but with colorful LED strips hanging up, they look alright.
The wind was stronger by the river, but moving around made it less cold. The two of them walked to the edge of the viewing platform and stopped, looking across the river together.
The wind ruffled Wen Zhixia's hair, which she slowly tucked behind her ears before looking at Shen Jiachen.
The evening breeze also blew Shen Jiachen's hair up, revealing his forehead.
Wen Zhixia asked, "Is your family the Shen family I know?"
Shen Jiachen didn't hide the fact that he was a second-generation rich kid, but he never brought it up. He turned his head to look at Wen Zhixia: "It should be the Shen family you're imagining."
Wen Zhixia said "oh" to indicate that she understood.
She didn't ask any more questions and continued to look at the river.
Shen Jiachen quietly took a step closer to her, their arms touching, before he continued, "However, my family situation is complicated. My parents divorced a long time ago, and I was awarded to my mother."
Wen Zhixia looked at him again, and Shen Jiachen continued, "My mother's family is in the United States. After the divorce, she returned to the United States."
"Then why did you stay in China?" Wen Zhixia asked in confusion. "Shouldn't you have gone abroad with your aunt?"
“That was my original plan, but I have a younger brother who was too young at the time. I couldn’t just abandon him, so I discussed it with my mom and we decided that I would stay in China to study and take care of my brother.”
