Wen Shuqiao and Shen Jiazhou went upstairs together. After they reached the second floor, Shen Jiazhou said, "This trip will be quite rushed. After lunch tomorrow, I'll take you and Cancan to the Zhou family. There might be a dinner party tonight."
Wen Shuqiao asked, "Is the Zhou family your mother's side?"
"Yes," Shen Jiazhou said, "I also took the opportunity to see...my mother."
Wen Shuqiao found this question a bit strange, and after thinking for a moment, she asked indirectly, "Has she found another true love?"
She had just thought about it briefly, and neither the novel nor anything before that mentioned Shen Jiazhou and Shen Jiachen's mother. The only possibility was that she found a new family after the divorce.
"No." Shen Jiazhou gave a bitter smile and said, "Forget it, you're tired today too. Get some rest. We can talk about it after you've rested."
He proactively opened the bedroom door for Wen Shuqiao: "Come in, Cancan will sleep with me tonight, Gu Xingyuan will bring her over later."
Seeing that he was unwilling to say more, Wen Shuqiao nodded: "Okay, then you should get some rest too."
She was indeed a little tired, and after saying goodnight to Shen Jiazhou, she went into the bedroom.
After quickly washing up, I lay down in my warm bed, closed my eyes, and fell asleep in no time.
In the next room, Shen Jiazhou tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, the bedroom door was pushed open a crack, and Can Can walked in wearing her pajamas.
Shen Jiazhou glanced at him, pulled back the blanket, and Cancan lay down in, rolled around once, and then rolled steadily into Shen Jiazhou's arms.
Her fingers accurately pinched Shen Jiazhou's ear: "Uncle, I thought you were asleep."
Shen Jiazhou pinched his chubby arm, the child's flesh as soft as cotton: "I've been waiting for you, go to sleep, why have you slept for so long, and you still haven't broken the habit of touching your ears."
Can Can buried her face in his chest and laughed, "I want to touch your ears, Uncle."
Shen Jiazhou patted his butt: "Go to sleep, you have things to do tomorrow."
Perhaps it was because she was in an unfamiliar environment, but even with her eyes closed, Can Can couldn't fall asleep.
Shen Jiazhou opened his eyes: "Why are you twisting and turning?"
"Uncle, is Auntie asleep?" Can Can simply lay on top of him: "Can I..."
"No." Shen Jiazhou grunted. That brat, is he trying to knock him unconscious?
However, he still hugged Can Can tighter: "Alright, you can use me as a bed. Go to sleep, your uncle is here."
Can Can was all sticky and clingy, hugging Shen Jiazhou tightly. Perhaps sensing that he was safe being held by his uncle, Shen Jiazhou heard Can Can's breathing on his body in less than a minute.
...She fell asleep way too quickly.
Shen Jiazhou sighed and carefully turned over to put him on the bed. The little pig was snoring, which at this moment became the best white noise and a sleep aid.
As Shen Jiazhou listened, his thoughts drifted away, and he slowly drifted off to sleep.
"Whoosh—"
"Whoosh—"
The sound of water filled his ears. Shen Jiazhou opened his eyes in a daze, only to find himself surrounded by a dim twilight. Seawater was crashing against the rocks, some of it splashing onto him.
He looked down and realized he had been sitting there for who knows how long; not a single part of his body was dry.
Shen Jiazhou's gaze fell upon the sea beneath his feet. For some reason, he felt somewhat out of control, as if an invisible force was pulling him down.
Just jump down—
Jump down and it'll all be over.
Jump down—
Jump down—
"Jiazhou? Jiazhou?"
Shen Jiazhou suddenly opened his eyes, and what came into view was Can Can's wrinkled face, and a little further back, Wen Shuqiao's worried face.
"Alright, alright, let me take Uncle's temperature again." Wen Shuqiao patted Cancan's bottom, gesturing for him to move aside.
With a serious expression, Can Can reversed the car, giving her spot to Wen Shu Qiao.
Wen Shuqiao held the thermometer gun behind Shen Jiazhou's ear and glanced at it: "Thirty-seven, the fever has gone down a bit."
Shen Jiazhou asked groggily, "Huh? I have a fever?"
Wen Shuqiao hummed in agreement: "It started burning up in the middle of the night. Can Can came to find me and scared him to death."
For some reason, Wen Shuqiao didn't sleep well in the second half of the night, so when Can Can knocked on the door, she heard it. As soon as she saw her, Can Can burst into tears.
When I came over, I saw that Shen Jiazhou had already cooked the shrimp. Fortunately, he had taken his medicine and was feeling much better now.
Shen Jiazhou stared at the ceiling, and after a while, he slowly sat up. Wen Shuqiao reached out and helped him up: "Where do you still feel uncomfortable?"
Shen Jiazhou shook his head: "No, I'm just a little weak. I caught a chill yesterday, but I'll be fine after a rest."
He looked out the window; it was still snowing outside. "What time is it?"
"It's nine o'clock." Wen Shuqiao pulled out a chair next to the bed. "Mingxue and President Gu went home and said that the family dinner at noon today will be postponed until you are better."
"I'm sorry," Shen Jiazhou sighed, "I brought you two out to have fun, but I didn't expect to get sick first."
Can Can was originally sitting on his lap, but after hearing what he said, she immediately jumped into his arms.
Shen Jiazhou caught him and said helplessly, "Didn't I tell you not to pounce on me like that? Are you a big cake?"
Can Can buried her face in his shoulder, nuzzled against him, and said softly, "Uncle, please don't get sick, okay? Auntie and I shouldn't get sick either, and our whole family shouldn't get sick, okay?"
