The nanny van stopped at the manor gate.
The driver was Si Kangzhu; Xu Zhengxi didn't even bring Master Wu with her when she came here.
There was no crowd to greet them at the porch, only armed guards.
Xu Zhe had been wondering if he would run into Jiang Shuning at the door.
Looking at the heavily guarded front courtyard, I wonder if Jiang Shuning has arrived yet.
Si Kangzhu got out of the passenger seat, ready to help Xu Zhe push down the accessible step.
Xu Zhengxi, however, led Xu Zhe into the house first.
"Let's go see Grandpa and the other family members first," Xu Zhengxi said to Xu Zhe, leaning slightly forward.
Xu Zhe's voice was so soft it was like an ant's as he replied with an "okay," without caring whether Xu Zhengxi heard him or not.
The house was huge, with its high dome, wall reliefs, and valuable furnishings, all of which made Xu Zhe dare not utter a sound.
Although the Xu residence was quite grand, its atmosphere was very different from this place. Perhaps it was because of its owner, but the air here was solemn and dignified.
Regardless of others, Xu Zhengxi's maternal grandfather Pei Jun and his maternal uncle Pei Li are enough to suffocate people.
Upon entering the reception room, the dome remained as high as ever, and square sofas and chairs were arranged in a semi-enclosed space.
Xu Zhengxi's maternal grandfather, Pei Junzheng, was sitting in the middle, with his two maternal uncles on either side. There was an empty seat next to his maternal uncle, presumably for Xu Zhengxi.
Jiang Shuning was sitting on the other side of the empty seat.
The others sitting there were all relatives of the Pei family, and Xu Zhe didn't recognize any of them.
"Grandpa, Uncle."
Xu Zhengxi pushed Xu Zhe to the middle of the reception room, first greeted the elders, and then nodded slightly to the others.
Pei Jun's expression was serious, and he did not soften in the slightest when he saw Xu Zhengxi.
Xu Zhe originally wanted to call out to people along with Xu Zhengxi, but when she looked up and saw her grandfather's expression, she was so frightened that she immediately lowered her head.
After half a century of peace, why is the old man still so murderous? Xu Zhe was so frightened that his legs went weak.
Xu Zhengxi didn't wait for her grandfather to speak, but instead pushed Xu Zhe to the empty seat next to her maternal uncle.
That's his seat.
He climbed up step by step, from the very edge of the council chamber to his seat.
The Pei family ranks their members based on seniority.
He accepts this rule; it's part of his upbringing and his confidence in the winner-takes-all mentality.
Xu Zhengxi parked the wheelchair a little behind the sofa chair, then unbuttoned his suit jacket and sat down.
Jiang Shuning's gaze never left him from the moment he entered.
This man is too dazzling; every time she sees him, her heart flutters even more!
Despite having an eyesore as a burden, Grandpa could handle all the monsters and demons here.
Sure enough, no sooner had he sat down than Pei Jun's deep, stern rebuke echoed throughout the reception room:
"Outsiders, get out!"
Xu Zhe felt like he was going deaf, and his heart was pounding painfully.
Xu Zhengxi's maternal grandfather is terrifying; she's scared out of her wits!
Xu Zhe pressed the wheelchair button, wishing he could escape immediately.
Huh? Huh? What's going on? Why aren't the wheels moving?! We can't afford for this to fail us at a crucial moment!
Xu Zhe bent down to push the wheels and found that the wheelchair was being held tightly by a large hand.
Who betrayed me?! Xu Zhe looked in the direction of the hand... Damn it! It was that bastard Xu Zhengxi!
His face was as calm as tempered glass, and his demeanor as composed as a mountain. It was as if his grandfather's sonic earthquake had simply caused him to sneeze.
"Xu Zhe is my person. Wherever I am, she will be."
Xu Zhengxi stared directly at Pei Jun, his dark eyes deep and calm, each word clear and composed, more resounding than a roar.
Xu Zhe saw a kind of calm madness in him.
Hsu Cheng-hsi, how scary!
Pei Jun paused for a moment, never expecting that his authority would be unable to control two juniors.
Although Xu Zhengxi was a brat whom he had carefully nurtured, he was still a junior and a little brat in his eyes.
Only then did he realize that the kid's rise was too rapid, and the energy he unleashed surprised him, but also made him lose control.
Pei Jun looked at the young man with sharp eyes, but they lacked lethality.
“She is someone raised by the Xu family, and has nothing to do with you. You were kind enough to take care of your grandfather for a while, but now that you're an adult, you should let her go back to where she belongs.”
“You and Shuning can’t live with outsiders in the future.”
Jiang Shuning nodded and smiled at Pei Jun. Thinking of her life with Xu Zhengxi, their marriage, their wedding night, and the birth of their child, the sweetness in her heart was overflowing and could not be hidden, and it all showed on her face.
Xu Zhengxi continued to hold Xu Zhe down:
"Jiang Shuning and I are friends. Grandpa, please don't bring up things like living together and make things difficult for others."
Jiang Shuning's smile vanished almost entirely. No problem at all! She couldn't wait to lock herself up with Xu Zhengxi and have children for all eternity. How could it be a problem?
She looked at Xu Zhengxi, wondering if she hadn't expressed her feelings and caused him to misunderstand.
But expressing one's feelings should be done in private; with so many people around, she felt too embarrassed to take the initiative.
Pei Jun's expression darkened further, but he refrained from lashing out.
"You don't need to worry about that. Shuning is a good girl. She wouldn't do anything like flirting or making you misunderstand her or put her in a difficult position."
"The Pei and Jiang families have made up their minds. Next, we'll pick an auspicious day to properly hold the engagement and wedding."
After hearing this, Jiang Shuning blushed and lowered her head shyly.
My grandfather made the decision so directly, announcing it to the family. He was decisive and straightforward, leaving no room for compromise.
Jiang Shuning was very satisfied.
She lowered her eyes, and out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of Xu Zhengxi's long legs. Even under his trousers, her long and graceful lines were visible. This man was simply divine!
He should be Jiang Shuning's man!
