Ling Xingzhi felt a slight pain in his hand. He stepped out of the room and looked down at the wound on the back of his hand. He hadn't walked far when Wei Luochen appeared in the distance down the corridor. She had a perfect smile on her face, but when her gaze followed Ling Xingzhi's hand to the back of his hand, her brows furrowed slightly.

"What's wrong?"

Ling Xingzhi shook her head, but didn't stop walking. Wei Luochen turned around, but her fishtail skirt, which was draped over the carpet and covered in high heels, tripped her.

Turning around, Ling Xingzhi saw that Wei Luochen was lying on the ground in a very elegant posture. He hadn't seen her fall, but her current elegant posture was definitely the result of discipline. A helpless smile appeared on his lips as he reached out to help Wei Luochen up.

Wei Luochen stood up with his help, her eyes fixed on Ling Xingzhi's wound, a helpless yet mocking smile on her lips. The next second, she tightly grasped Ling Xingzhi's hand, smiling beautifully into his eyes, "Let's go."

The two walked hand in hand in the dimly lit corridor. Passersby smiled and nodded at them, seeing them as a loving couple.

As soon as they stepped into the elevator, the orange lights disappeared, and bright lights came on above their heads.

The smile on Wei Luochen's lips gradually disappeared, and his long fingernails, gripping Ling Xingzhi, dug deep into his flesh. "You said you wouldn't betray me," Wei Luochen's voice trembled slightly as he met Ling Xingzhi's gaze reflected in the elevator door.

"At least he won't betray me physically."

There was a moment of silence between them.

Ling Xingzhi lowered his eyes, a dark undercurrent flowing within them, and said in a low, husky voice, "I'm sorry, it was an accident. There won't be a next time."

Wei Luochen bit his lip hard, his eyes reddening as he looked up, "Are you sorry to me, or to Kong Lingqi?"

Ling Xingzhi frowned and turned to look at her. "When we got married, I already told you that I loved her."

These words were like a thorn, piercing Wei Luochen's heart. She forcefully shook off Ling Xingzhi's hand, her chest heaving.

"You pervert, how dare you say you love her? Sleeping with me, loving her, don't you think you're sick in the head?"

Hearing Wei Luochen's accusations, Ling Xingzhi's lips slowly curled up, but the smile didn't reach his eyes. "Yes, I've been sick for a long time, and you're only just realizing it now?"

These words left Wei Luochen speechless, and she could only glare angrily at Ling Xingzhi.

The elevator stopped with a crisp "ding" as the two of them faced off.

The elevator doors slowly opened. Ling Xingzhi composed himself, a half-smile playing on his lips, waiting for the doors to fully open.

"I'm sick, and you're sick too."

The man walked out, and Wei Luochen stood still. After two seconds, she slowly turned around, her high heels clicking as she caught up with Ling Xingzhi. She chuckled softly beside him, "Yes, I'm sick too. I love you too much. But it's okay. I'm Mrs. Ling. Let's torment each other for the rest of our lives."

As soon as the words were spoken, elegant music filled the banquet hall, and a band performed on the second floor, marking the true start of the dinner.

People dressed in fine clothes socialized and chatted in the room, holding wine glasses. The pendants on the ears of the socialites shone brightly under the lights. Ling Xingzhi and Wei Luochen each took a glass of champagne, and had just taken a sip when a middle-aged couple stood in front of them.

"Secretary Ling, Madam, it's been a long time."

It was the district head of Dongcheng District and his wife. "District Head Zhang, it's been a long time. I heard you have some good news to share?" Ling Xingzhi asked with a smile. Wei Luochen put his hand on his arm, his eyes beaming with laughter.

The previous police chief was arrested for corruption and bribery during the crackdown on organized crime, and the position remained vacant for a long time. Due to the tight security measures, news of the appointment of the Dongcheng District Mayor a year later finally emerged. Although there was no concrete evidence, such news usually meant it was a done deal.

District Chief Zhang smiled modestly, "There's no good news. I'm getting old, and I don't have the drive of you young people. I'm willing but unable to do things."

"You have experience and qualifications, so your promotion has nothing to do with age; it is well-deserved."

Ling Xingzhi answered politely as always, while Wei Luochen looked up at him from the side, secretly wanting to laugh.

He is polite and courteous on the outside, but he is rotten to the core. Or rather, he is depraved, like a filthy swamp where not a single flower can bloom.

Wei Luochen was curious to know what it would be like if he revealed his true appearance to everyone.

Will they be surprised?

She thought that day would come sooner or later, and when she stopped loving him, Wei Luochen would definitely destroy Ling Xingzhi.

District Chief Zhang and Ling Xingzhi exchanged a smile, raised their glasses in celebration, and took a sip of wine.

"May Minister Ling have many more such opportunities to come!"

Ling Xingzhi accepted the compliment with considerable satisfaction, saying, "It's best to say that to the old man; he'll love to hear it."

District Chief Zhang nodded and quickly said, "You're right..."

Before she could finish speaking, a crisp sound rang out, the band's music stopped, and everyone looked toward the stage. A woman dressed in elegant clothes was holding a wine glass and a spoon, smiling gracefully. Her movements stopped after attracting everyone's attention.

"Welcome everyone to Minister Ling's birthday banquet. As the host, I'm a little nervous," she said, giving a playful smile that made everyone laugh.

Wei Luochen took a sip of his drink and his gaze fell on the woman, Song Hong, a singer who came from the military. She mainly performed as the closing act at various galas. Not long ago, she accompanied the Minister of Foreign Affairs on a visit to North Korea and showcased her singing skills at a Sino-North Korean gala.

It was a time when one's hands were at their most eager to be used.

The Ling family is no ordinary family, and this woman's background is even more extraordinary. To be able to invite her to be the host of the birthday party, Wei Luochen glanced at the guests, wondering if the Ling family was about to be promoted again.

"Up again..." Wei Luochen took another sip of wine to calm his nerves.

Song Hong delivered his speech on stage, his tone light and witty, punctuated by occasional jokes. Ling Xingzhi chuckled along with them, his gaze shifting to his father, who was seated at a table in the crowd. After a few seconds of lingering attention, he looked away and then back at the woman on the stage.

"I saw the Brantcher family. Were they also at the old man's birthday party?"

Wei Luochen whispered a question in Ling Xingzhi's ear, his gaze never leaving him, and said in a low voice, "Father had some business dealings with them before."

After listening, Wei Luochen nodded. The Brantcher family is a British noble family with a history of over 200 years, tracing back to the era of the British East India Company's trafficking of black people. In short, they are an aristocratic family that one cannot ignore.

"Their family manages my magazine. Will you come with me to a social event later?"

Ling Xingzhi nodded, his smile and gaze unchanged, but for some reason, Wei Luochen felt that his attitude was different, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

A smiling tiger, always grinning at everyone, but secretly stabbing people in the back, leaving them no idea how they died.

In that instant, Wei Luochen felt fortunate to be his wife. At least they would share both honor and disgrace, and as long as she didn't do anything out of line, Ling Xingzhi wouldn't do anything to her.

After Song Hong finished his lines and went offstage, it was Ling Xingzhi's turn. He slowly walked onto the stage, stood in front of the microphone, and after his gaze lingered on his father's magnificent painting on the wall for a few seconds, he smiled and slowly began to speak.

"It's Grandpa's birthday again, and as his eldest son, I'm actually quite annoyed. I don't know what gift to give him. After all, Grandpa is very knowledgeable, and as the younger son, I'm afraid of making a fool of myself..."

Before they could exchange more than a few words, the banquet door suddenly opened, and a man in a police uniform walked in, loudly demanding, "Who is Ling Xingzhi?"

The position of police chief was vacant, and the deputy chief was in charge. When the deputy chief saw the policeman walk in and questioned him loudly, he immediately lost face.

Pushing through the crowd towards the police, I hadn't taken more than a few steps when I heard a voice say, "That's me."

Turning my head, I saw that Ling Xingzhi still had a smile on his face, his hand casually resting on the microphone, his expression and posture were extremely lazy, and a sense of oppression arose inexplicably.

“We received a report that you committed rape, and we are here to take you away.”
