Liu Yiyi didn't know where she was going.
He had a black mask over his head, and the car was bumping along. Sometimes his arm would bump into something hard; he knew it was a gun. The plane he was on had already taken off, and he was comfortably leaning back in his seat, closing his eyes to sleep.
But there was a lot of commotion around me; people were saying there was something next to the plane.
He didn't know what it was, but the noise annoyed him. He opened his eyes, pulled up the window shade, and in the pitch-black night, he saw a strangely shaped airplane.
In an instant, Liu Yiyi broke out in a cold sweat.
He felt that this was related to him.
Humans are just that sensitive when faced with danger. Before Liu Yiyi could even react, the captain's voice came over the intercom: "Attention passengers, military exercises are underway ahead. Traffic control is in effect. We need to return to the ground and wait for a while..."
They didn't say they were there to arrest someone; it was for the sake of stability inside the plane.
Hearing this, Liu Yiyi lowered his hand, his strength gone, and slumped against the wall. He was finished; his life was over.
The plane door opened, and a flight attendant walked up to him. "Are you Mr. Zhang Wei?"
This is Liu Yiyi's alias and fake documents.
He nodded.
The flight attendant smiled, took a blanket and placed it on his lap. Actually, there was a pair of handcuffs under the blanket, which she then fastened on him.
After all the passengers had disembarked, two soldiers carrying guns boarded the bus. "Mr. Liu, let's go."
Below the plane, a green military vehicle and a Hongqi sedan were parked, along with a mysterious black sedan with the license plate ending in 01.
Liu Yiyi looked at the car, his legs gave way, and he tumbled down. The man carrying a gun next to him immediately raised his weapon and aimed at Liu Yiyi. He was helped up by the flight attendant, his whole body aching and his legs trembling.
He went down, a black mask covering his head. His eyes were open, and even though everything was black, he opened them in terror.
After walking for a long time, the car stopped, and he was helped out, staggering. Up the stairs, down the stairs, around a corner... He didn't remember how long he walked, his mind tense, until he was pushed into a seat.
The hood was removed, and a bright light shone through. Liu Yiyi abruptly closed her eyes, and after a few seconds, she slowly opened them again.
He saw a radiant woman sitting opposite him.
Zhou Xiye.
Do you know why I arrested you?
Liu Yiyi licked her lips and shook her head.
“I remember, I didn’t approve that piece of land. I did visit your company, but I absolutely did not abuse my power to do anything for you.”
Liu Yiyi nodded hurriedly, "Yes, yes! I know you don't! I told Team Leader Shen the truth... You can go and ask!"
Zhou Xiye smiled, "I know, otherwise I wouldn't be reinstated as a judge now..." She looked at Liu Yiyi, tilted her head, "So now you think I should thank you for telling the truth?"
"No! Absolutely not!"
Zhou Xiye ignored him, scrutinized him for a few seconds, and then asked, "How much do you know about the prostitution at the farmhouse? Who's involved?"
Liu Yiyi was silent for a moment, looking down at the handcuffs. When she looked up, she had regained her composure. "Secretary Zhou, I think interrogation should be handled by the police and the procuratorate, not by you using the army on your own. I can say you're abusing your power. It's not a pleasant feeling to be reported, is it? If you used any means against me, I'll report you when I get out! I'll even sue you."
Hearing this, Zhou Xiye laughed loudly, "Do you think you can get out?" She stood up but didn't come any closer. "Liu Yiyi, if I send you to the procuratorate and the police station, there are many people who want you dead. You might go in tonight and not see the sun rise tomorrow. You're safe here with me. Besides, I just want to know some things and won't harm your life."
Liu Yiyi remained silent, looking at Zhou Xiye.
Zhou Xiye shrugged indifferently. "It's too late today, I need to rest too. Think it over carefully, and call me when you have an answer." She walked behind Liu Yiyi, her fingers sliding down to his shoulder, and like a snake, slowly pinched his neck, applying force.
“I don’t like wasting time. If you call me here and don’t tell the truth, I really don’t mind calling your family to come and keep you company.”
"you!"
Liu Yiyi turned her head to look at Zhou Xiye.
"A viper!" he said through gritted teeth.
Zhou Xiye shook his head, let go of his hand, and patted his shoulder. "Hey, don't portray ability as something bad. When I was suspended, just as many people criticized me as you did, but what good did it do? If criticizing people was effective, we wouldn't have gone to such lengths to frame me."
Liu Yiyi stopped talking, his forehead covered in sweat, his eyes glaring at the air, seemingly angry at someone. Seeing his expression, Zhou Xiye felt particularly satisfied, opened the door, and went out.
After Zhou Xiye left the military base, Li Wei drove her home. After parking the car, Li Wei opened the car door for Zhou Xiye, saying, "Secretary Zhou, congratulations!"
"What's there to congratulate me on?" Zhou Xiye asked, puzzled. "I didn't do anything wrong, and I was arrested. Shouldn't it be my due to get out? Am I supposed to kowtow to them?"
Li Wei was taken aback, then smiled, "Secretary Zhou..."
Zhou Xiye sighed, "Working hard is the most important thing. Come pick me up early tomorrow. Also, contact the secretariat and tell them to arrive early; I need to have a meeting."
"good."
Zhou Xiye didn't rush upstairs, watching Li Wei drive away and disappear from sight. The night was quiet, the chirping of insects was hidden in the bushes, the moonlight was hazy, and the lights in each house went out one by one. For them, it was an extremely ordinary night, but for Zhou Xiye, tonight was terrifying.
She turned her head to look at the two o'clock direction, where a dark green military vehicle stood quietly, the wind blowing and ruffling her hair.
Looking back, it all seems like a dream.
Zhou Xiye walked towards the car, but it didn't move. Reaching the car, Zhou Xiye opened the back door and sat down. There were two people in the front seat, sitting upright.
"Reporting to Secretary Zhou—"
Zhou Xiye interrupted the report, "There are only three of us, no need for such a big fuss." She leaned back in her chair, "Have the tank crews near the airport all withdrawn?"
"They withdrew, ostensibly to the end of the exercise, but actually returned to the military region."
Zhou Xiye nodded, "I have another task for you... Go to the Golden Triangle and invite some guests over." After saying that, she took out a piece of paper from her pocket, "Invite the people listed above over. You don't have to force them to come if they don't want to."
"good!"
The next day, the people at the municipal party committee building saw Zhou Xiye, whom they hadn't seen in a long time. She was still the same as before, serious and unsmiling, nothing had changed.
The expression they wanted to see didn't appear at all.
Zhou Xiye went straight to his office. Qiao Senxi was wiping the table inside. Hearing footsteps, he turned around and said, "Secretary Zhou, you've arrived."
Zhou Xiye nodded, put down her briefcase, and noticed a strange, dusty smell in the room. She turned and walked to the window, opened it, and looked down at the flowers and plants on the balcony, which had long since withered and lost their former glory. She put her hands on her hips and looked down at the flowers, finally sighing, "Let's throw all these flowers away and buy some new ones."
"Okay," Qiao Senxi replied without looking up, diligently wiping the table. Zhou Xiye turned his head to look at him, paused for a few seconds, and then suddenly smiled, "One day the hidden dragon will finally receive the rain, today the released crane will soar to the sky... Secretary Qiao, don't you think so?"
Qiao Senxi straightened up, looked at Zhou Xiye for two seconds, then turned his head away and said, "Secretary Zhou, I'll go make you some tea."
As soon as Ling Xingzhi stepped out of the elevator, he saw Zhou Xiye carrying documents and walking towards the conference room. A little dazed, he stopped. Zhou Xiye caught sight of him out of the corner of his eye and also stopped to look at him. The two faced each other across the corridor, separated by lush green potted plants.
"Long time no see, Secretary Zhou," Ling Xingzhi took a few steps forward, stopping about five meters away from Zhou Xiye. "I've come today to..."
“Acting Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee… I saw the document,” Zhou Xiye said for him, followed by a moment of silence. Ling Xingzhi looked at Zhou Xiye’s face and felt that something was different, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
Zhou Xiye didn't understand what was wrong with Ling Xingzhi either; he seemed a bit abnormal. "What's wrong?"
"fine."
"fine?"
Ling Xingzhi nodded. The elevator behind him made a sound. He glanced at the time and muttered to himself, "You look very energetic today."
Zhou Xiye chuckled and turned to walk away.
Sunlight streamed in, spreading across the corridor, and the crisp sound of footsteps faded away at the conference room door.
The main topics of the meeting were continuing to handle the human trafficking and prostitution case at the agritainment venue, and Zhou Xiye taking over the projects left behind by Secretary Hu Rui. After the meeting, Zhou Xiye asked the newly arrived secretaries and Qiao Senxi to stay behind.
Looking at the four of them, Zhou Xiye smiled and nodded. "Thank you for your cooperation, especially for your efforts during my suspension." Her gaze fell on the documents in front of her. "Next, there are two more tough battles to fight. I hope you are all in good shape."
She picked up the documents and said, "Next, I'd like to hold a press conference, or you could say a Q&A session. On the one hand, it's to enhance the government's credibility, and on the other hand, I have some things to announce. What you need to do now is contact a venue, finalize the list of media to invite, and contact the television station."
Apart from Qiao Senxi, the others were all very excited. "Secretary Zhou, has this matter been reported to the Provincial Party Committee? Did the other members of the Municipal Party Committee agree? Wouldn't this be considered acting first and reporting later?"
Zhou Xiye nodded. "I suppose so. What, do you have a problem with that?"
Qiao Senxi opened his mouth, "Secretary Zhou..."
Zhou Xiye stood up. "This is the job description. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Discuss how to divide the work among yourselves and then tell me the results. I want to see your plan implemented by this Wednesday."
After the meeting, Zhou Xiye went to the provincial party committee to report on his work. When he saw Liu Liangyou again, Zhou Xiye looked at him with a more cordial gaze.
"Secretary Liangyou, it's been a long time. How have you been lately?"
Liu Liangyou stared at Zhou Xiye, but he didn't have Zhou Xiye's composure. "Secretary Zhou, you look like you've lost a lot of weight."
Zhou Xiye smiled and said, "Really? I ran into Mayor Ling this morning, and he said I looked energetic."
"Really?" Liu Liangyou said with a forced smile. "I've heard that you and Mayor Ling have a good relationship. He helped you a lot while you were away... Congratulations on your reinstatement!"
"Thank you, Secretary Liangyou. I'm here to report to you and ask for your instructions."
Liu Liangyou picked up his teacup, took a sip, and then slowly put it down. "What's the rush? Your first day at work, and you're already reporting to the provincial party committee?"
"It's not a big deal. It's just about pushing forward the investigation into the human trafficking and prostitution case. Also, the municipal party committee has unanimously decided to hold a press conference to explain my situation during this period, as well as the series of changes within the municipal party committee. This is to reassure people that the government has not shut down and is operating normally."
Liu Liangyou didn't give him a friendly look.
"Hold a press conference? What are you going to say?"
Zhou Xiye smiled and said, "Of course, it means that the evidence of Secretary Hu Rui's embezzlement and bribery is conclusive, which travel agencies are involved in the prostitution case at the agritainment venue, who are the protectors behind these travel agencies, and finally, the agritainment project will be restarted after rectification."
In an instant, Liu Liangyou's eyes were filled with murderous intent.
Zhou Xiye, still smiling, stood up, leaned on the table, and approached Liu Liangyou. "Liu Liangyou, Liu Yiyi is in my hands." Liu Liangyou glared at Zhou Xiye, enjoying her opponent's anger. Her voice grew softer, "Even if he doesn't say anything, I know that the biggest protector behind Qihang Travel Agency is you. You're involved with foreign forces, organizing prostitution, trafficking women, abusing your power... and allowing drugs to flow into the country. I don't know how many heads you need to be shot..."
"Smack—"
Liu Liangyou slammed his hand on the table and stood up. "Nonsense! Zhou Xiye, are you crazy? Did you suffer a mental breakdown after being suspended from your duties for investigation? I don't understand what you're saying!"
Zhou Xiye was taken aback, then laughed.
She straightened up, clasped her hands together in front of her lower abdomen, and smiled calmly, "Secretary Liangyou, Team Leader Shen will definitely be able to find out about these things; it's just a matter of time."
Liu Liangyou's forehead was covered in sweat, and his face was full of panic.
Zhou Xiye remained calm and said, "Don't do this, I'm here to help you..." She took out a plastic bag from inside her suit and gently placed it on the table. Inside were her red and green passports and her ID card. "Secretary Liangyou, I'm here to help you."
Liu Liangyou looked at the documents on the table, then at her, and said, "This is an office! There are security cameras here."
Zhou Xiye shrugged.
Liu Liangyou stared at the identification, feeling as if all his strength had drained away, and slumped into a chair. After a few seconds, he looked at Zhou Xiye, "It's you, isn't it? When did this start?"
Zhou Xiye frowned. "I don't understand."
"This game of chess is a Pyrrhic victory, with the enemy suffering a thousand losses and yourself losing eight hundred. When did it start?"
Zhou Xiye shook his head, "You were the one who started this, I was just going along with it."
Liu Liangyou suddenly understood, picked up the plastic bag and threw it on the ground, "Secretary Zhou, you need evidence to do things. You're just making baseless accusations against me here... So what if Liu Yiyi is in your hands? He can only be convicted after being interrogated by the Security Bureau. Don't lie here!"
"You want to sacrifice your own family for the greater good?" Zhou Xiye looked at him and sighed. "Secretary Liu Liangyou, everything I've said today is the truth... How about we play a game now?"
Liu Liangyou looked at her with disdain.
"Let's see if you can run faster, or if Shen Yuhe can find you faster?"
