Inside a restaurant in Rivet City.
The storyteller snapped his folding fan shut and began to speak with great emotion: "Legend has it that the world today has two poles, one in the north and one in the south! And at the center of those two poles lies the other side of the world! It is said that there once stood an incomparably vast, heaven-reaching immortal mountain that separated the north and south poles! Soaring into the clouds, it connected the immortal realm with the mortal world! People call it—the Immortal Realm Mountain!"
...
Su Nian gazed at the towering pillar hidden in the clouds and mist. It resembled a high mountain, a giant tower, and a pillar supporting the sky.
He pointed to the looming, towering pillar and asked the old man, "What mountain is that?"
The old man looked in the direction Su Nian pointed and saw the towering pillar that was almost indistinct. He shook his head and said, "I don't know. That mountain has always been there, but no one has ever gone to see it."
"Nobody's seen this?"
"Yes, how far is it from here? And the wind and waves are so strong along the way, who would take that risk for no reason?"
Su Nian asked, puzzled, "It's only about fifty li from here to there, right? Didn't any of you go and check?"
The old man clapped his hands and said, “Oh my goodness, my brother! Fifty li is a long way! The youngest and strongest lad in our village can only drift twenty li at most on a raft, and there’s a risk of the raft sinking halfway there. Our village only has a little over a hundred people, and every young and strong lad is a treasure of the village. Who would be willing to take that risk?”
After the old man reminded her, Su Nian realized that there were very few strong young men in the village.
Many village women whispered to him, and several young women looked at Su Nian with shining eyes, secretly chatting and laughing.
Su Nian pondered for a moment, then asked the old man, "May I go and take a look?"
The old man smiled knowingly and gestured for them to go ahead. “If you’re really curious, then go and see for yourself. But I have to tell you this first: you’ll have to do the work of cutting down trees and making the raft yourself. The young men in our village are all busy and don’t have time to play around with your nonsense.”
"It's alright, I can fly by myself."
"What did you say?" The old man picked at his ear, thinking he had misheard.
After Su Nian finished speaking, she floated into the air, and her Taoist robe fluttered up as well.
The villagers who came to watch were so shocked that their jaws dropped to the ground when they saw Su Nian fly up. They all knelt down and kept muttering things like "paying homage to the immortal" and "begging the immortal for blessings."
Even the old man trembled as he opened his mouth, knelt down before Su Nian, and kept praying and kowtowing.
Seeing this, Su Nian felt an increasingly strange feeling.
Even without a sword, flying wouldn't be that difficult, would it?
Why do these villagers look like they've seen a deity?
Forget it, let's go check out the foot of that mountain first.
Thinking this, Su Nian quickened her flight and headed towards the faintly visible fairy mountain.
Within his little world, Qian Shudie's excited voice rang out.
"It's Immortal Mountain! It's Immortal Mountain!"
Su Nian frowned slightly, "Immortal Realm Mountain?"
He had naturally heard of the name of Immortal Realm Mountain. According to popular legend, Immortal Realm Mountain was the pillar that supported the heavens and the earth.
"Yes! I heard a storyteller mention in a teahouse that the Immortal Realm Mountain is ethereal and its location is unknown to anyone. However, the far south and far north are so mysterious that many people speculate that the legendary Immortal Realm Mountain might be somewhere in the far south or far north!"
Qian Shudie's voice was filled with barely concealed excitement.
"Moreover!! Most importantly!! There exists a Celestial Spring at the foot of Celestial Mountain! That Celestial Spring has the power to bring people back from the dead and transform demons into humans!!"
At this point, Qian Shudie burst into tears of excitement.
"Brother Su Nian! Didn't you always look down on me for being a demon? Now, all I have to do is soak in that water and I can turn into a human! Now, the only obstacle preventing us from getting married is finally gone!!"
Su Nian was also shocked.
Immortal Mountain? Immortal Mountain Spring?
Resurrection? Transformation from demon to human?
If we really have the chance to get this spring, wouldn't it be better to take more with us? That way we'll have an extra means of survival in the future.
With this thought in mind, Su Nian increased her flying speed and rushed towards the Immortal Realm Mountain with all her might!
Strangely, no matter how far or how fast he flew, the Immortal Realm Mountain was always fifty miles away from him!
Su Nian tried again and again, unwilling to give up, but no matter how fast he increased his speed, the Immortal Realm Mountain remained far away from him.
He frowned and muttered to himself.
"Strange...why do I always feel like...Mount Xianjie is avoiding me?"
In his mind, Qian Shudie's anxious voice could be heard.
"Brother Su Nian! Why haven't you flown to Immortal Mountain yet?"
Upon hearing this, Su Nian stopped trying traditional flight and instead formed a magic seal in her hands.
"A flash of lightning!"
With a whoosh, Su Nian's figure instantly transformed into a bolt of lightning too fast for the naked eye to see, heading straight for Immortal Realm Mountain.
However, he still failed.
He tried everything he could, but ultimately failed to get any closer to the Immortal Realm Mountain.
This fifty-mile distance is like an insurmountable chasm; no matter how hard one tries, it is impossible to get any closer.
"Books and discs." After trying dozens of methods but still failing to close the distance with the Immortal Realm Mountain, Su Nian said with a strange expression, "There's something wrong with this mountain. No matter how fast I speed up, I still can't get close to it."
"I see..."
Qian Shudie saw Su Nian's efforts and, even though she was anxious, she now understood that no one was allowed to approach the Immortal Realm Mountain.
Left with no other choice, she could only manage a forced smile.
"It's alright, Brother Su Nian, let's think of another way, shall we?"
"Um."
Su Nian nodded and then turned back to the village.
As soon as he landed, all the villagers gathered around him.
They bowed down to Su Nian, kneeling and kowtowing repeatedly.
"I am foolish and ignorant, I failed to recognize the immortal, please punish me!" The old man said with a sorrowful expression, then knelt down with his granddaughter in front of Su Nian.
Then, all the villagers in the fishing village knelt down.
