18 "This body is both strange and familiar to Tao Wanjia"
Not long after Wen Dongyang left, the doorbell rang. He Yu thought he had forgotten something, so he turned his wheelchair and slowly walked over.
Xiao Zhang was brought here early in the morning. He refused to sit at first, but after getting used to it, he found that it was indeed less tiring than crutches. However, the only inconvenience was that he could only move around on the first floor.
The doorbell rang more and more urgently. He Yu stretched out his arm to open the door, and it turned out to be Tao Wanjia standing at the door.
He paused for a few seconds, as if he was dreaming.
Tao Wanjia was covered in dust, with a few strands of hair on her forehead flying. She looked panicked and squatted down to hug him.
"He Yu, your legs..."
Tao Wanjia's voice trembled, and the words Wen Dongyang had just said on the phone were still echoing in his ears -
"He Yu's legs are crippled, and someone needs to help look after him. But he's too stubborn, and I have to go to work right now so I can't spare the time to take care of him. Could you please help me go to his house and look after him for a while? I'll be back in less than two hours."
Wen Dongyang spoke so fast and so urgently that she had no time to think after hearing him. Her mind was full of the word "disabled".
She always pretended to be calm in front of him, but she knew that it was a high ground she was forced to build.
But now, the wall in my heart, which was not strong to begin with, collapsed.
He Yu's face was blurred in his sight, and Tao Wanjia's nasal tone became heavier and heavier. "You, how did you get into this state?"
He Yu was stunned.
Tao Wanjia was crying for him, and he saw concern in her hazy eyes. This was completely different from her previous coldness and retreat.
Her body still retained the coolness from the cold outside, but the hand on his back was as hot as charcoal.
He Yu's consciousness was in a state of confusion as he felt the alternation between cold and heat. He watched her loss of control due to worry, and also watched her being so close to him.
Until tears rolled down, Tao Wanji looked down and saw the plaster on his foot.
It took two seconds to react and realize something was wrong.
"Wen Dongyang lied to me?"
She stood up suddenly and looked at him hesitantly, "Or are you lying to me?"
The familiar atmosphere has gone away, but He Yu can no longer remain calm.
He grabbed her hand that had already retreated, raised his head and locked his gaze with her misty eyes, and asked in a deep voice, "Tao Wanjia, you are worried about me, right?"
"no!"
She shook her head, anxious to avoid his gaze, "It was Wen Dongyang who made a fuss. He told me that you were disabled, so I..."
She stopped herself in the middle of her words, and He Yu looked at her and smiled.
Once the disguise is broken, it is difficult to put it back on.
They know each other too well. Even though there has been a gap in the years since they separated, the habits that have been ingrained in their bones will not be easily changed.
He Yu held her hand tightly, with such strength that no matter how Tao Wanjia struggled, she couldn't move at all.
"So you're still worried about me."
He paused for a moment, "Tao Wanjia, you are dishonest."
"No!" She retorted, pried his hand away and turned to leave. His gaze made her eyes panic a little, "Since you're okay, I'll go back."
"Who said I'm fine? Can't you see that my leg is lame?"
He Yu was a bit unreasonable, and he didn't want to let her go. Although Wen Dongyang was arbitrary, he had helped him a lot.
Tao Wanjia was being dragged by him. He turned around to look at him and corrected him impatiently, "It's a fracture, not a limp."
"That's no different than being lame. I can't go anywhere now anyway. I'm like a cripple."
This sentence stopped her struggle. Tao Wanji lowered her head, and the pair of hands that looked like cartoon models in her memory were placed on her hands. As she moved, the scar on the inside of her wrist was exposed again. When her eyes met again, she finally understood her fear and loss of control.
His hand was broken because of her, and he can no longer paint because of her.
After a moment of silence, Tao Wanjia softened his tone and said, "Don't think like that. A fracture won't have any sequelae as long as you take good care of it."
She was clearly trying to comfort him, but after she finished speaking, her eyes felt sore and painful. It was clearly not her fault, but she seemed to feel the same way.
"What do you have to eat at home?"
There was a moment of silence, and Tao Wanjia turned away and changed the subject.
He Yu paused, "I'm not hungry."
"I'm hungry."
She hadn't eaten for a whole day and had just squatted on the ground for a while. Now she felt like she was floating and almost seeing stars.
He Yu wanted to stand up when he heard that. Seeing how hard he was trying, Tao Wanjia hurriedly stopped him and pushed him back into the wheelchair with a stretch of his hand.
"Just tell me, I'm not shy."
"There should still be some food in the refrigerator," He Yu said, unsure. "Or I'll order takeout."
"Takeout isn't clean. I still want to live a few more years."
She has personal experience and has been undercover in some of the more famous internet-famous restaurants, and their hygiene conditions are hard to describe.
Pushing He Yu back to the living room, Tao Wanji turned around and went to look for ingredients in the refrigerator.
The phone on the coffee table rang, and Wen Dongyang sent him a message.
[How is it? Does this trick work? ]
【What did you say to Wan Jia? 】
[Anyway, as long as the effect is good, don't let her down and act pitiful. This will make her feel more distressed.]
This person is very sensible when giving advice to others, but becomes a fool when it comes to himself. He Yu was helpless, and when he turned around and saw her looking at him, he subconsciously threw away his phone.
"What's wrong?"
"It's okay, what do you want to eat?"
"I'm fine with either."
After getting the answer, Tao Wanjia turned around, rolled up his sleeves and started washing his hands.
His house was decorated in cool colors, and the kitchen was so clean that it looked as if no fire had ever been turned on. In order to save time, Tao Wanjia cooked noodles directly, and came out fifteen minutes later with two bowls of tomato noodles.
The sky outside the window has darkened, with a lingering ray of sunset light remaining on the horizon.
The lights in the living room were off. In the dim twilight, He Yu had unknowingly moved to the sofa. The evening news was playing on TV, and he had fallen asleep unknowingly amid the noise.
Tao Wanjia put down the bowl, took the remote control and turned down the volume, and found that he was watching Nancheng Satellite TV.
I walked over to wake him up, but I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking. My shoe got caught on the wheelchair on the carpet, and then it suddenly fell on him.
The tips of their noses collided violently with each other, and He Yu suddenly woke up with a groan.
In the dim light, his eyes were bright, and he seemed to be smiling. "Are you going to murder me?"
"I wanted to call you to eat, but you were sleeping like a dead pig and I couldn't wake you up no matter how hard I called."
Tao Wanjia was never inferior in his talking skills. He tried to stand up, but found that his hands were made of solid muscles.
He was wearing a very thin gray pajamas with the top two buttons undone, revealing a small piece of fair skin through the crooked fabric.
This body felt both strange and familiar to Tao Wanjia.
The man's chest vibrated slightly under his palm. He Yu smiled and explained to her, "Wen Dongyang got drunk yesterday and didn't go to bed until almost morning."
Her face gradually became hot, probably because the temperature in his house was too high.
"What are you thinking about?" He Yu could see that she was distracted.
Tao Wanjia shook his head, "Nothing."
"lie!"
Suddenly, there was a hand behind her, and He Yu exerted a little force, forcing her to continue lowering her head.
The two of them were so close that they couldn't be any closer, and the ends of her hair brushed against his face.
Tao Wanjia tried to suppress the irregular beating of his heart, but the noises became more and more obvious in the silence.
He Yu glanced at her expression in the dim light, his eyes full of amusement.
"What did you say last time?"
He raised his eyebrows and spoke slowly, "Give me back once? If I remember correctly, that's what you said, right?"
"You remembered it wrong!"
Tao Wanjia was shocked. He couldn't believe that such words could come out of his mouth. He glared at him and said, "I think you have lost your mind."
His smile grew wider, and he found her current reaction particularly amusing, so he continued to tease her along this topic.
"I remember correctly, how about you listen to the recording?"
As he was speaking, he was about to get up to get his cell phone. Tao Wanji panicked and held him down hard.
"You're annoying He Yu!"
She couldn't stand being provoked the most. At this point, she knew there was no turning back. People have to pay for what they say and do.
After briefly convincing herself, Tao Wanji suddenly lowered her head and bit the man's lips.
He Yu was stunned. He hadn't expected Tao Wanjia to be so obedient. He'd always been led around by her since childhood. When had he ever fallen for one of her tricks? The rarity of this moment made his already chaotic heartbeat even more uncontrollable.
She was very strong, and bit him carelessly, as if she was just doing a job. She blew off her anger, and their teeth chattered. It took them a while to get used to the feeling again.
He Yu gradually became addicted, and the hand around her waist tightened slightly.
But Tao Wanjia let go of him at this moment, grabbed the hem of his clothes with his fingers, and asked breathlessly: "Where is the thing?"
"What?"
"What are you talking about?" She no longer had the strangeness from before, her eyes were dark and bright, and she lowered her head to unbutton his pants. "The tool used in the crime."
He Yu hurriedly tried to stop him, but when he stood up in a panic, his legs hit the coffee table, and he felt severe pain in his feet again.
He was in pain for a long time before he struggled to speak.
His voice was low and hoarse, "I didn't."
"Huh?" Tao Wanji reacted and got angry. "What nonsense did you just say? You're crazy!"
He held her hand, and they looked at each other with a tense look, completely unaware of the slight noise at the door.
Xiao Zhang skillfully unlocked the door, walked in and turned on the headlights, and was startled by the two people in the living room.
The document fell to the ground, and he quickly raised his hands to cover his eyes, "Mr. He, I didn't see anything!"
Actually, I saw it.
The moment he turned on the lights, he saw the two of them sitting together. The boss's clothes were disheveled, his face and ears red. He wasn't stupid. Although he was shocked by the unexpected turn of events, being interrupted at such a crucial moment made Xiao Zhang feel that he was almost finished. Perhaps He Yu would really send him back to South City.
Tao Wanjia was frightened by his shout and accidentally bumped into He Yu's foot when he jumped off him.
The man frowned, coughed lightly, and looked at Xiao Zhang standing by the wall. "Your hand is broken, so you can't knock on the door?"
"I knocked, but you didn't hear me." Xiao Zhang said softly, picking up the documents from the ground and handing them to He Yu. "These documents need your signature. Also, President Deng called you this afternoon to schedule dinner."
He Yu straightened his pajamas and signed with a pen, "Please help me reject Deng Zixiong. You know how to say it."
Xiao Zhang nodded, his eyes flickering back and forth, but he didn't look at the two of them.
Tao Wanjia no longer felt uncomfortable at this moment, and even came to his senses when he heard Deng Zixiong's name.
She looked at He Yu again, a look of scrutiny in her eyes. She knew he had inherited his father's business after returning to China, and she also knew he now had numerous businesses throughout Rongcheng. But listening to and watching him like this always left a sense of unreality and disconnection.
It was obvious that he was an outsider living in the family building a long time ago, and he knew nothing about Rongcheng except those small roads. As time passed, their identities changed.
"Since someone is here, I'll leave."
She spoke calmly and stopped suddenly as she passed the door.
On the black marble countertop beneath the entryway cabinet sat a Russian nesting doll that didn't quite fit in with the decor. The wood had yellowed over time, and the outermost layer had even cracked.
She had bought it for him at the night market. Tao Wanjia had received a ton of gifts from him since childhood, but he'd given very few to He Yu. This was the only real gift she'd ever given him, and she'd tried toss the ring many times before finally landing on it.
Later, when she confessed her love, she put the note on the innermost layer, but it was not used.
The past was still vivid in his mind. Tao Wanjia looked away, but the thing was still flashing before his eyes.
He Yu walked to the entrance with his cane and whispered behind her, "Let Xiao Zhang take you home. It's snowing outside."
She looked out the window. The sky was pitch black, and then fine white light slowly fell.
As if his heart was stabbed by a knife, Tao Wanjia turned around to look at him.
"You should cultivate yourself well and pay more attention."
