51 "Then we will each fight for our own sake, and live and die together"
Huang Shengsheng was a sensible child, and she seemed to sense that something was wrong at home. When Tao Wanjia entered the room, she was already awake and squatting under the bed, putting on her shoes.
He looked up when he heard the voice, and his eyes lit up when he saw it was her, "Auntie!"
"I thought I was going to kindergarten by myself today."
Slender but strong hands hugged her, and her fluffy hair stood up in a mess. Tao Wanji raised his hand to straighten it, then bent down and said, "Of course not. Mom is a little busy these days. Can your aunt take care of you?"
Huang Shengsheng nodded, staring at her face motionlessly, "But my aunt's eyes look very dark, did you not sleep well?"
Tao Wanji's heart warmed, and a smile spread across her cracked lips. She hadn't liked children before, but now she suddenly felt that Huang Zheng had a daughter like this. Although children were often very noisy, it was nice to have someone like this to support her when she was tired.
"Auntie is fine, don't worry."
Her head was groggy and she lost focus. She took a fever-reducing pill and prepared breakfast. After a busy day, she finally managed to get her to kindergarten on time.
At eight o'clock in the morning, sunlight shone through the gaps between the leaves of the tree-lined avenue.
Tao Wanjia turned around and walked back, and a strange man across the street suddenly lowered his head.
This feeling was extremely familiar, and she instantly realized that she was being followed, but the man was so mentally ill that he didn't dare to look her in the eye. Tao Wanji realized that this should not be the same situation as last time, so she quickened her pace to cross the road, wanting to catch the man and ask him questions.
But when the man saw her, he quickly put her aside and soon disappeared in the crowd.
The result of this little episode was that Tao Wanjia was thinking about it the whole day. After Zhao Kuo got the information from her, he took over to help her check Deng Zixiong's funding project. She also seized the time and did not dare to rest. She wanted to find the deaf-mute girl that Wen Dongyang mentioned to her last time, but Zhao Kuo disguised himself and entered the KTV several times, but he could not find her.
“There are even very few waitresses here now.”
Zhao Kuo closed the car door and reported the situation to her. Seeing that she still looked not well, he wanted her to go and have a rest.
Tao Wanjia was stubborn. He looked at his watch and found it was still early. He took a bite of the pancake in his hand and told him about being followed this morning.
"That guy is stupid. I now suspect he's Deng Zixiong's man. He might have found out my background since the day I interviewed him."
Her voice was so calm that it was as if she was telling him that there were no crispy crackers in the pancakes. Zhao Kuo's expression darkened when he heard that. He checked his surroundings in the rearview mirror and said in a serious tone, "Next time you go out, call me. Don't go out alone."
The situation in Rongcheng is different from other places. She grew up here, so even if she has left, there are still connections that can be found.
"Also, leave anything that requires you to be in the spotlight to me," Zhao Kuo added.
"good."
Tao Wanjia responded, feeling as if he had returned to the past.
But she was not as happy as she was then. In the past, she was relaxed even when she tried her best to do the investigation, but now her nerves were on edge because He Yu did not dare to relax at all.
She just hoped that everything could be cleared up soon so that they could return to normal life.
Worried about being followed, Tao Wanjia was much more cautious when picking up Huang Shengsheng after school.
She looked back from time to time while holding the child's hand on the way back, but the man did not appear.
Huang Shengsheng was very observant. He noticed Tao Wanjia had a fever soon after arriving home. "Auntie, you are sick!"
She wanted to persuade Tao Wanjia to rest, but she insisted on making dinner for her. Huang Shengsheng saw that her words had no effect, so she slipped into the house and called He Yu with her watch.
Straight to the point——
"Uncle He, where are you now? My aunt has a fever and won't rest. Can you come home and take care of her?"
He Yu was at the hospital, worried about Wen Dongyang, so he and Huang Zheng were waiting outside. He had just managed to persuade Huang Zheng to go to dinner, thinking he'd take advantage of Lu Yuan's visit to ask Wen Dongyang about the car accident. When he got the call, he didn't bother to talk anymore, told Xiao Zhang to stay, and turned and left.
I bought some medicine downstairs before leaving.
Tao Wanjia cooked for Huang Shengsheng in a daze. She didn't order takeout because she was afraid that it would be unclean. But the fever-reducing medicine she took didn't seem to have much effect. Maybe it was because she hadn't slept for a long time, and now her whole body seemed to be floating in the air.
So when He Yu saw that she couldn't even walk steadily but was still wandering around the kitchen with a pot in her hand, he immediately went up to her.
Grab her wrist and take the pot.
"Why are you here?"
She glanced at him sideways, resentful of his saying that they wanted to break up during the argument last night. Although he was not thinking clearly, his words were very harsh.
Seeing that He Yu didn't say anything, he simply turned his head and looked at Huang Shengsheng who was standing at the kitchen door. "How could you let someone into your house? It's very dangerous!"
"But this is my uncle-in-law." Huang Shengsheng said innocently.
"No, listen to my aunt——"
"Tao Wanjia."
The man behind him spoke slowly.
She turned her head, frowning in displeasure at being interrupted. "What's wrong, Mr. He? Am I bothering you here? Don't worry, I'll clear the kitchen for you right away without any delay."
"There are medicines on the coffee table."
He Yu's voice was calm. Seeing that she was glaring at him, he quickly looked at Huang Shengsheng who was standing beside him. "Your aunt is sick. Shengsheng, go and make sure she takes her medicine, okay?"
Huang Shengsheng nodded in response, pulled the person out of the kitchen to the living room, took the water and handed it to Tao Wanjia, his voice sweet and soft.
"Aunt, get well soon. Just listen to your uncle-in-law and have a good rest. Don't worry, he'll cook for us. He's a very good cook."
Tao Wanjia kept calling Huang Shengsheng his uncle, and all he could think about was breaking up. He pinched Huang Shengsheng's cheek angrily and asked, "Who is your relative?"
"But my uncle-in-law also watched me grow up. Mom said that people should be grateful and repay their kindness. Aunt, please don't always bully him."
Tao Wanjia was speechless and laughed inexplicably after hearing this.
He swallowed the medicine, put down the water cup, and looked at the righteous Huang Shengsheng in front of him with a righteous look. He lowered his voice and said, "It was obviously him who bullied me."
"Impossible." Huang Shengsheng's eyes were full of doubt, but he answered quickly, "My uncle-in-law is not a bully. He is very kind to everyone, and he is even better to you, my aunt."
Huang Shengsheng was a little girl with a very smart personality. Tao Wangjia couldn't reason with her. His head hurt more and more, so he took a pillow and lay down on the sofa.
She couldn't really explain why she felt awkward. She wasn't a very uncalm person, but it was probably because she was angry. She felt that she was the only one who could bring things to an end between her and He Yu. With that in mind, she quickly got up and went to the kitchen.
He Yu had already cut the vegetables and was standing by the sink preparing the fish. He looked focused as he rinsed it clean and sliced the fish very thinly with a knife.
Tao Wanjia had rarely seen He Yu like this before. He leaned against the door and watched quietly for a while until he suddenly spoke.
"Why don't you go and rest?"
Their eyes met, and after a moment, Tao Wanjia asked, "How's the situation at the hospital? I called Huang Zheng, but she couldn't explain anything."
He Yu didn't want to add to her troubles, and there was really no conclusion at the moment.
He withdrew his gaze and continued to deal with the fish at hand, "You should rest well now."
He was a little too calm, and Tao Wanjia couldn't help but speak again.
"It's already this late, and you're still cooking so calmly. It seems I was overly worried. If I had known you were like this, I would have..."
"Just what?"
He Yu suddenly locked eyes with her. Unlike his expression during the quarrel last night, it seemed more like they were having a calm and peaceful conversation.
He spoke calmly as he arranged the fish on a plate. "It's already like this. I don't really care about those things anyway. I'll just let it go and find out what happens."
What he said didn't really mean anything, but to Tao Wanjia it sounded like he was giving up on himself.
She couldn't bear to see He Yu like this, so she stood up, walked forward, stood in front of him and asked seriously.
"So what do you care about?"
"You don't care about such a big thing. Are you really going to let others throw buckets of dirty water on you continuously?"
She spoke in a serious tone, each word ringing loud and clear.
It wasn't a question, it was more like speaking up for him.
Perhaps people will only fully reveal their inner selves when their emotions and bodies are most difficult to control.
He Yu heard it and the hand holding the knife suddenly stopped.
He looked at her quietly, his eyes deep.
Although he didn't answer, Tao Wanjia understood what he meant from the look in his eyes.
The only thing he cared about was her. Even if God wanted to take away everything he had, it wouldn't matter. As long as Tao Wanjia was by his side, it would be enough. He could want nothing, he could not care about anything. The only thing he couldn't let go of was her. She was the one who made him feel uneasy because of his worry.
After a long silence, He Yu called her name softly.
"If, if I want you to stop investigating this matter, will you give up for me?"
He tried to keep his question concise, but after he spoke it, he found that his voice became hoarse for no reason.
Tao Wanjia didn't expect him to ask such a question. He remained silent under his gaze. Then he shook his head, "No."
She was determined in her heart that because you were involved, she would investigate without hesitation.
He Yu had guessed her answer a long time ago, but it still sounded harsh to him. His eyes dimmed for a moment and he stopped talking, lowering his head to continue processing the fish.
He knew she had no right to ask her to give up for him.
Then we will fight on our own and live and die together.
After dinner, Tao Wanjia felt that the medicine finally took some effect.
She felt much better and played games with Huang Shengsheng for half a day until it was pitch black and He Yu came to her senses after cleaning up and walking out of the kitchen.
"I'm going back first. You two should get some rest early."
His voice remained calm. After he finished speaking, he looked at Huang Shengsheng in Tao Wanjia's arms and said, "Remember to remind Auntie to take her medicine, okay?"
"I know, uncle, don't worry."
Huang Shengsheng's bright smile dispelled the gloom that had been lingering between the two of them. Tao Wanjia stood up to see him out when the phone on the coffee table suddenly rang.
"Hey. Ho-ho!"
"The girl in the store just now said that the entrance to the new store was smashed. Where are you now? I want to go over and take a look."
She didn't turn on the speakerphone, but Huang Zheng's voice was very loud. He Yu heard it all and met Tao Wanjia's gaze in surprise.
He knew they were imminent.
