Chapter 317: A Great Victory
Wherever King Wu's flag pointed, the Northern Di coalition forces were like boiling water poured on snow.
Ordinary soldiers had already been frightened by the thunderous bombardment and the invincible reputation of the King of War, and subconsciously avoided his attack.
In the chaos, Ashina Duoji looked particularly panicked.
"Quick! Retreat!" His face turned pale and he whipped the horse under him madly.
Among the many famous generals of Dayan, only King Wu made him feel fear from the bottom of his heart.
This man has no taboos in his actions and is extremely brave and valiant, but his martial arts skills are unparalleled in the world.
Ashina Duoji believed that he could not last more than ten rounds against his men! If he did not run away now, he would surely be killed!
However, in order to witness the fall of Shuofeng Pass and Luo Yuan's captivity with his own eyes, he had ridden his horse too far forward. Now he was at the foot of the city where corpses were scattered all over the ground. The corpses and broken spears seriously hindered his horse's speed.
On the other hand, King Wu was as fast as a ghost and approached with just a touch of his toes.
He easily tore through the hastily formed defense line of Ashina Duoji's personal guards.
Arrows were blocked, spears were cut off, and anyone who tried to stop him became a dead soul under the sword.
"Jiji, you old thief! Anyone who offends Dayan will die!"
Before he finished speaking, King Wu had already soared into the sky like a hawk and landed precisely on the back of Ashina Duoji's galloping horse.
His left foot was firmly planted on the back bridge of the saddle, and his right foot, with tremendous force, stomped hard on Ashina Duoji's back!
"Ugh!" Ashina Duoji screamed miserably. His waist and back were instantly trampled down, and his old face hit the horse's neck hard. Blood was flowing from his mouth and nose, and he looked in a miserable state.
The cold blade was already pressed against the side of his neck!
The thousands of Ashina Duoji's personal guards around were furious and wanted to rescue him, but their spears were stabbed back because the Khan was under their feet.
The horse was still running in panic, but King Wu was as steady as a rock. He used the inner strength injected into his feet to drive the horse to change direction and rush towards the wall of Shufeng Pass that he had originally left.
This scene made all the soldiers on both sides of the battlefield gasp in shock.
The power of King Wu, the "God of War", is awe-inspiring!
King Wu looked around, took a deep breath, and spoke. His powerful voice overwhelmed the clamor of the battlefield and spread clearly throughout the field:
"The old thief Jiji has been captured alive by me! Your commander has been subdued! Those who surrender and kneel will be spared! Those who resist will be killed without mercy!"
Ashina Duoji's troops, whose morale had already collapsed due to the bombardment and King Wu's charge, saw the Khan being captured, and their last bit of will to resist completely collapsed.
The clanging sound of weapons falling to the ground rang out like a tide, and nearly 100,000 soldiers from Ashina's army knelt on the ground with deathly pale faces.
However, the three Mobei armies that had allied themselves with Ashina Duoji were also frightened at this moment, but they were unwilling to give up their resistance in order to save Ashina.
Instead, under the shouting of their respective generals, they tried to regroup and retreat.
"Humph! You're so stubborn!"
King Wu snorted coldly and kicked Ashina Duoji, who was paralyzed at his feet, like a broken sack towards the direction where the defenders of Shufeng Pass were gathering.
"Kidnap him! Take revenge if you have any grudges, and pay back any grievances if you have any grievances!"
He then shouted to the deputy general who was waiting in formation behind him, "Order! Cavalry Battalion, provincial troops! Crush those ungrateful bastards! Leave no one alive!"
"Yes, sir!" The deputy general took the order and waved the flag.
Our army rushed towards the three Mobei coalition forces that were trying to resist and flee!
King Wu looked up to the sky and laughed loudly: "I haven't chopped off anyone's head in three years. I'm going to have a good time!"
After saying this, the giant sword turned into a whirlwind of death. Wherever it passed, broken limbs flew everywhere, blood rained down, and the enemy soldiers fell like wheat being harvested.
He deliberately piled up the heads, cut off the enemy's heads, and kicked them into a pile like kicking a cuju.
Soon, the heads he severed piled up into a tall mountain of blood.
The enemy soldiers were terrified and trembling with fear as they looked at the bloody, demon-like figure.
Even some of his own recruits could not help but shudder at the sight of the prince's inhuman bravery and the Shura-like scene on the battlefield.
This epic battle, which started with a firm stand and ended with a thunderous counterattack, finally came to an end as the remaining soldiers of the three tribes in Mobei fled in disarray.
The air was filled with smoke and the smell of blood was so strong that it could not be dispelled.
The wounded at Shuofeng Pass were urgently carried into the pass for treatment.
Ge Jiyong lay on a stretcher, his chest and abdomen wrapped in thick blood-stained linen, the military doctor's words buzzing in his ears.
"Fortunately... no internal organs were damaged... and he's still alive..."
He raised his head with great effort, looked at the gray sky which was no longer obscured by arrows, and laughed with his cracked lips.
"Damn it! I must have been a great good man for ten generations. I actually survived!"
I was so happy and excited that it hurt the wound.
The severe pain mixed with the emotional shock of escaping death made his eyes go black and he fainted completely.
A deputy general named Wang dragged his tired body to report the results of the battle to King Wu.
"Your Highness... a preliminary count... shows the Northern Di coalition forces numbering 500,000. Over 100,000 of Ashina Duji's own troops have surrendered and been captured. The three northern tribes of Mobei have been routed, with approximately 70,000 to 80,000 fleeing. The remainder... have all been surrendered. Including those who perished in the bloody battles... the vast army that the Northern Di had sent with all their might... has been lost, seven or eight out of ten."
King Wu nodded, very satisfied with the result.
He walked towards Luo Yuan, who was directing the treatment of the wounded and the collection of the bodies of the fallen soldiers, with a step that showed no regard for his relatives.
General Luo was covered in blood, his armor was torn, and a wound on his shoulder so deep that the bone was visible was only hastily bandaged, and blood was still oozing out.
But his back remained straight, like the unyielding wall of Shufeng Pass.
"Luo Yuan!" King Wu's voice was loud, but lacked some of the brutality he had on the battlefield.
He walked closer and slapped Luo Yuan's uninjured shoulder with his big hand, with such force that he almost knocked Luo Yuan to the ground.
"Good! Well done! You're a tough guy!"
He glanced at the corpses strewn across the walls, his tone filled with genuine admiration.
"You held your ground! You defended the city! You saved so many good men for Dayan! Tonight, I will drink with you!"
Luo Yuan slowly raised his head, his face was covered in blood and dust, making it almost impossible to see his true features.
In his bloodshot eyes, there was no ecstasy of victory, only bottomless sorrow and heavy responsibility.
The original 300,000 Shuofeng Pass soldiers fought side by side, but now only about 180,000 are alive.
The 120,000 disappearing faces were like a huge rock pressing on his heart.
The air was filled with the smell of blood, and every breath made my lungs hurt.
He did not respond to King Wu's invitation to drink, but took a deep breath and slowly glanced at the soldiers who were silently carrying the bodies of their comrades and suppressing their sobs.
"Your Highness... thank you for your praise. I was only doing my duty."
He paused, each word weighing heavily on his lips: "If I can...live one more person, that's one more person."
The smile on King Wu's face faded. He followed Luo Yuan's gaze, looking at the scorched earth soaked with the blood of loyal souls. The fighting spirit in his eyes ignited again, more fiercely than before, with an unquestionable determination:
"Well said! Do your duty!"
He turned suddenly, pointing his great sword at the vast, but now weak, grassland in the north.
"Now, it's our turn to fulfill our greater duty! In the Golden Throne Hall, this king has issued a military order!"
He stared at Luo Yuan with burning eyes.
"We must plant the dragon flags of Dayan all over that vast grassland! Luo Yuan, you and I will join forces, lead our battle-hardened troops, and crush the Northern Di! We will plow through the fields and sweep away the northern threat forever! How do you think?!"
Luo Yuan's calloused hands suddenly clenched the bloodstained long knife, and his knuckles made a crackling sound due to excessive force.
He slowly raised his head, and the fatigue and sadness in his eyes receded like the tide, replaced by the sharpness and determination of a great general.
He nodded slowly and firmly.
"I, your humble servant, am willing to be the vanguard! This hatred must be avenged! This flag must be raised!"
The setting sun at Shufeng Pass finally sank completely into the blood-stained horizon, leaving only blood-red darkness all over the sky.
However, a new and more intense beacon fire has been quietly ignited on the horizon of the Beidi grassland.
