Chapter 102: A Disastrous Beginning

Dongji Island is the island closest to China's easternmost coastline.

You can't get here directly by plane. All the crew members took a bus from Dongji City Airport to Dongji Port, and then took a ferry to reach their destination, Dongji Island.

Although Dongji Island is located in the ocean, it has abundant freshwater resources. The three rivers, six lakes and fourteen springs are the most famous tourist resources on Dongji Island.

However, December is already the off-season for tourism in Dongji Island. On the ferry crossing the sea, there were only a few individual tourists with the crew.

Yan Zi and Marco, who had let down their guard, were naturally recognized by these tourists. After all, they were the two protagonists of the hit movie. After a polite greeting, the tourists were satisfied to get Yan Zi and Marco's autographs and take photos with them, and immediately felt that the trip was worthwhile.

When they got off the boat at Dongji Island, the sea breeze was already quite chilly. Feng Xiaoyun put the shawl that she had prepared long ago on Yan Zi, and in return she smiled sweetly, which made Marco on the side pout secretly.

When you come out of the port, there is a long flight of stairs, and you have to go to the top to see the vehicles that come to pick you up.

The crew naturally brought a lot of various filming equipment. Fortunately, the people here are simple and honest. Seeing how hard Feng Xiaoyun and the others were working, several fishermen selling fish at the port came forward to help.

His dark face reveals snow-white teeth when he grins, which makes people feel good about him.

The price they paid for transportation was just the hope that the crew would buy some of their seafood.

Feng Xiaoyun waved his hand and took care of it all. He sent it to the accommodation and could always find someone to process it, so it was no big deal.

After climbing the hundreds of steps, I stood at the top and looked towards the island.

I found that most of the houses here are built against the mountain, made of blue bricks and stones, covered with tiles, and there are small gravel roads in front of the doors.

The walls of some abandoned houses have mostly fallen off, revealing adobe bricks. The roofs are covered with weeds and even entangled with plants, making it impossible to see their original appearance at first glance.

The big characters on the wall with a red circle lack the nouveau riche temperament of similar ones in the inland, and just stay there quietly.

Putting the gift in his hand heavily on the ground, Feng Xiaoyun took a few deep breaths of the fresh and salty air. Looking at the tranquil island below, he couldn't help but say sourly: Life is indeed not just about the present, there is also poetry and the distance.

Wilson, who was standing by, wrote it down in a small notebook and kept pestering Feng Xiaoyun to ask who wrote it. He believed that his roommate, with whom he had been in love for more than three years, could not write such a poetic poem.

In the end, Feng Xiaoyun dismissed him with a word: Zhou Shuren.

After looking through his little notebook, he found that he had recorded too many famous quotes from Zhou Shuren, all of which were said by Feng Xiaoyun. This made Wilson deeply doubt whether the main job of this Chinese philosopher named Zhou Shuren was to say these famous quotes.

The road on the top is called a road, but it is so narrow that only 1.5 cars can pass through, so there is a slightly wider place for cars to pass every few hundred meters.

The road was not flat, and the group took a bumpy ride on the minibus for nearly an hour before arriving at a hotel on Dongji Island.

The hotel is pretty good, with a four-star rating. Although the facilities are a bit old, it is very clean.

Wind chimes made of shells are hung everywhere in the hall. When the wind blows, they make a crackling sound, which is quite interesting.

After checking in, everyone looked at Yan Zi. After all, she was the boss here in name only.

After a long day of traveling, from the plane to the tour bus to the ferry, and then climbing over a hundred stone steps on foot, I took a bumpy minibus. It's impossible to say that I'm not tired.

Even people like Wilson and Feng Xiaoyun who have been exercising regularly feel a little tired.

Instead, Marco stood aside with an expressionless face, and it was impossible to tell whether she was tired or not.

"A Bite of China" was originally planned to be filmed and broadcast episode by episode, but because the largest TV station in Europe suddenly had a vacant program schedule, the filming, editing and review of the first episode was reduced to only eight days instead of the original half a month.

Yan Zi thought about it and said, "Let's go record the show first, after all, time is too tight!"

Recording a food show is not really tiring for the guests who are just there to eat and drink, but it is a bit painful for the staff who are carrying cameras and lighting.

They were already exhausted, and now they could only endure hunger and watch others feasting. It was so unpleasant that the faces of several staff members darkened on the spot.

But Yan Zi's next words made them smile happily, "Today's salary will be tripled. If you do a good job on the pricing, you will get a bonus."

In fact, what everyone hates is not overtime, but unpaid overtime. As long as the boss pays the employees, they don’t mind being treated like donkeys in the production team.

So the group of people bowed and went out in a mighty procession.

Zhang Li is the executive director of the crew. He chose the location. He arrived at Dongji Island a few days in advance and inquired about all the restaurants, big and small, on the island. Finally, he chose this restaurant.

But when Feng Xiaoyun was brought in and saw the food on the table, he waved his hand helplessly: "Put away the cameras, let's eat together."

"Assistant Feng, what's going on?" Zhang Li was a little confused. "This restaurant is truly the most unique restaurant on the entire Dongji Island."

"Director Zhang, you didn't understand the plan I wrote!" Feng Xiaoyun also admitted that he was careless. His plan was to find the most distinctive food, but not a restaurant like this.

"What I mean is that we should start with the ingredients, you know? Instead of everyone gathering here and praising how delicious and unique the dishes are."

After Feng Xiaoyun finished speaking, he asked Wilson, "I remember I roughly told you my thoughts. Didn't you communicate with Director Zhang?"

"We've... communicated!" Zhang Li blushed. Wilson had come to him at that time and roughly told him the desired effect, but he rejected Wilson's idea on the grounds that he had just arrived in China and couldn't understand Chinese cuisine yet.

Although Feng Xiaoyun is only the president's assistant, his wife is the president. Zhang Li felt a little uneasy. If the new boss is not satisfied, he should pack up and leave.

"Forget it! Let's eat first! I am also responsible for this matter!" Feng Xiaoyun said no more. This matter was indeed due to the sudden vacancy of the schedule at the Continental TV Station, which resulted in insufficient time. Otherwise, he would definitely confirm these things first.

Feng Xiaoyun spoke up, and Yan Zi naturally had no objection. He just arranged Zhang Li and Wilson to be next to Feng Xiaoyun. As the directors of this project, they did not even communicate properly with Feng Xiaoyun, the planner.

The people below didn't expect that such a mistake would be glossed over, and Feng Xiaoyun even took the responsibility.

You have to know that when you encounter such things normally, the leader is definitely not responsible, so who do you think is responsible?
