Chapter 43: Rejection

"Bang!" The coat and bag were thrown on the desk, and Mary, played by Marco, walked into her office with her high heels clicking.

"Number two, hang it there!" Amy, the chief assistant in the play, whispered to Annie, played by Yan Zi, and then pointed to the clothes hanger on the side.

Yan Zi frowned at first, wanting to say something, then impatiently went over to hang up the clothes and bag.

"OK, pass!"

This one went unexpectedly smoothly and I passed it in one try.

Zuo Ying'an nodded in satisfaction. He was actually a little worried about Yan Zi's performance just now. After all, she was a newcomer. Of course, he had seen her movie "Racing Girls". Although the character's emotional levels were performed quite well, the character's inner world was not complicated.

The performance requirements for Anne are much higher. Although she is just an assistant, she graduated from a prestigious law university and still has her own pride and confidence.

Now she just hopes that this job can become a stepping stone to her dream, so she will be impatient and want to resist, but she will suppress this idea because of her dream.

Yan Zi's performance just now made this scene very vivid, and he couldn't find any fault with it. He couldn't help but feel that his choice was correct.

"You did a good job. It seems you have done a lot of homework." Ma Keer took the water cup handed to her by the assistant, took a sip and said to Yan Zi beside her.

Yan Zi didn't know if she meant what she said, but she nodded and said, "Thank you!"

"But it may not be so easy later on!" Marco said, then went to touch up her makeup.

"Okay, the camera positions are all set, get ready for the next take!" an assistant director clapped his hands and shouted.

This is the most important scene at the beginning of the movie, and it is also the first meeting between Mary and Anne in the movie.

"start!"

"Who are you?" Mary wiped her glasses and glanced at Anne casually.

"I'm Annie, and I just graduated from Waldo University." Annie walked up and placed her resume on Mary's desk.

"Then what are you doing here?" Mary didn't even look at the resume on the table, but continued to wipe her glasses, then put on her glasses and asked.

"I'm here to be your assistant..." Annie hesitated for a moment before continuing, "I came to Jiangdu hoping to become a journalist. I sent out a lot of resumes, and then I received a call from an agency."

"Let me come here to meet Chen Yun from the Human Resources Department..."

Meili took a magazine from the side and glanced at her out of the corner of her eye while flipping through it: "So you haven't read "Flowers"?"

"No!"

"You only know me today?"

"Yes……"

"So you have no interest in fashion and no insights into it?"

"I...I think it depends on the individual..."

"No, no!" Mary interrupted her: "I'm not asking you!"

"Cut!" Director Zuo Ying'an shouted cut, then looked at the monitor for a long time without saying anything.

The atmosphere on the set suddenly became a little low. Even a movie queen like Marco didn't know why the director called cut and could only sit there and wait.

After a long while, Zuo Ying'an frowned and looked at the two of them and said, "Let's do it again!"

Neither of them knew what went wrong, but seeing that Zuo Ying'an didn't look very satisfied, they had no choice but to try again.

"start!"

"Card!"

This time, the two of them only said two or three lines each before they were called for cut.

“Again!”

Zuo Ying'an frowned even deeper, and the wrinkles on his forehead were so thick that they could easily kill a few mosquitoes.

Then the third time, it was called cut again without a doubt.

"You two come here."

The two men walked up to Zuo Ying'an, who pointed at the monitor and said, "Let's take a look!"

The two of them watched the performance again. To be honest, even with Marco's performance experience, he couldn't see what was wrong.

"Didn't you see it?" Zuo Ying'an asked.

Yan Zi nodded honestly.

"Yes, Marco played the role very well. Meili's arrogance, her self-confidence, and the unquestionableness that came through in her calmness were all perfectly captured."

"Yan Zi also acted very well. He portrayed the caution of a new workplace employee, the pride of being a graduate of Huadu University, the best school in the country, and his indifference to fashion. He did a great job."

"If you take your two performances individually, there's nothing wrong with them, and both of you deserve a shout-out. But when you put them together, you both fail."

Seeing that the two of them still hadn't realized the problem, Zuo Ying'an had no choice but to speak frankly.

He first pointed at Ma Ke'er and said, "You are rejecting Yan Zi."

Then he turned around and pointed at Yan Zi: "You are also rejecting Marco!"

"Repulsion! You two are repelling each other!" Zuo Ying'an stretched out an index finger in each hand, first bringing them together, and then separating them.

"After reading the script, you should know that Mary may not like Anne's current state, but she was actually the one who chose Anne to stay and work. She is not the type of person who would keep someone she rejects as an assistant."

"Marco, you have to understand that Mary may not approve of Annie at this stage, but she definitely doesn't reject her."

"Similarly, Yan Zi, your character, Annie, is also rejecting the other person. You may disdain fashion and believe that journalists who tell the truth are the most sacred profession, but you have no reason to reject the boss in front of you, especially when it's your first meeting."

Zuo Ying'an said seriously, "I don't care what you two do outside the play, but once you enter the play, you become the characters in the play."

"My beloved relatives and friends in the play are the same as those who have the hatred of their father being killed or their wife being taken away. They must love each other in the play. This is the most basic quality of an actor."

At this point, Zuo Ying'an beckoned a stagehand over and said, "Arrange a room for the two of them. Let them come out when they are no longer against each other."

Then Zuo Ying'an looked at the two of them and asked, "Is there a problem? You're not going to say I'm illegally detaining you, are you?"

Zuo Ying'an has never been the kind of director who acts like a tyrant on the set. Many actors even say that they feel like they are in the spring breeze while filming with him.

Maybe he felt that what he had just said was a bit harsh, so he told a little joke to ease the atmosphere.

Both of them shook their heads. When no one brought it up, they themselves didn't notice the problem, but when Zuo Ying'an brought it up, they discovered the problem.

Zuo Ying'an realized something was wrong the first time he took the photo, but he didn't say it directly. Instead, he asked the two to take the photo a second and third time.

Because there was no explanation, the two of them, not knowing where their mistake lay, would inevitably overthink it and ignore the feeling of rejection that they could both hide, so the feeling of rejection seemed even more obvious the second and third time.
