Chapter 124 A Good Start?

This little rascal Bai Yue wasn't satisfied with just getting a free barbecue with Bai Yu; she wanted to go beachcombing with him too.

Bai Yu was helpless against her and could only let her follow him. However, Bai Yu had a requirement for Bai Yue: she could not leave his three-meter radius.

Once the clock strikes midnight, it signifies the arrival of the new year; it's already the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Smelling the gunpowder in the air and hearing the occasional sounds of fireworks and firecrackers behind them, Bai Yu and Bai Yue each carried a rake and a bucket, with a headlamp on their heads, as they strolled along the beach.

It's still early tide, and everywhere, from the beach where Bai Yu and the others are, to the rocky shore a little further away, there's seawater and waves crashing in from time to time.

For everyone's safety, Bai Yu and the others plan to stroll around the beach first and collect some seafood. Once the tide has receded, they will go to the nearby rocky beach.

For this stretch of beach, all Bai Yu and his crew had to do was plow the land, dig out the seafood hidden in the sand, and turn it into their harvest.

Bai Yu and Wang Hai led Bai Yue to the side, where the three of them planned to find a secluded spot to quietly plow the field.

Anyway, all of them have lights, or at the very least, they have flashlights. And they all move in twos and threes, so even if someone has an accident, others around can notice in time.

As Bai Yu walked, he felt something hard under his feet; it was as if he had stepped on something.

Sure enough, when Bai Yu shone the light on his feet, a bulge appeared in the sand beneath his feet. The surrounding sand sank in, but there was a small protrusion in the middle, which was obvious to anyone with eyes to see that there was something in the sand.

"Hey, what great luck today! I've already found something after just a few steps? I hope it's not just an empty shell or a rock. Any conch or scallop would be fine."

Bai Yu looked at the bulge under his feet, picked up a rake and started digging at it. Soon, he dug out a large scallop that was black with a hint of white.

Bai Yu took a closer look and realized that this was a hairy clam. This thing was really big, almost the size of a duck egg.

Bai Yu was admiring the hairy clams when he noticed a white patch on the edge of the clam pit. This was caused by the sand around the clams being stirred up by Bai Yu while he was digging for them.

The white snake stood out conspicuously on the yellow sandy beach. Now that it has been spotted, do you think Bai Yu will let it go?

The answer was obviously no, and Bai Yu immediately grabbed a rake and started working.

In his mind, a marine creature with such white skin that hides in the sand is most likely a moon clam.

But when Bai Yu dug down with his rake, what he dug up surprised him greatly. He unearthed a round thing that started rolling around on the beach.

"Holy crap, what the hell is going on? Duck eggs are lying in sand now? Is this some kind of absurd thing?"

That's right, what Bai Yu just dug out of the sand was a sea duck egg, and for some reason it was hidden in the sand.

Sea duck eggs are slightly smaller than regular duck eggs, but they are still much larger than chicken eggs.

After Bai Yu held the duck egg in his hand, he didn't know for a moment whether it was good or bad, how long it had been in the sand, or how long it had been soaked in seawater.

"Yueyue, come here for a second, your brother has something good for you, ta-da, a duck egg, I dug up a duck egg!"

Bai Yu called Bai Yue over from behind him, then solemnly handed her the duck egg, instructing her to keep it safe and not let it break, otherwise he wouldn't take Bai Yu with him next time he went beachcombing.

Bai Yue pouted at Bai Yu. How could she not understand what her brother meant? He just thought the duck eggs were fragile and he was afraid she would break them, so he gave them to her.

Although Bai Yue understood Bai Yu's intention, she really couldn't refuse.

The reason she was able to come out to gather seafood so late was because Bai Yu was taking the blame for her. If it weren't for Bai Yu, she wouldn't have been able to come out to gather seafood so late at night.

Therefore, Bai Yue really needed to take good care of this duck egg. She took a net bag from her bucket, put the duck egg in the net bag, and then hung it around her waist.

On the other hand, Bai Yu, no longer restricted by the fragile duck eggs, picked up his bucket and ran, running wildly and without any restraint.

Soon the three of them were far from the main group and stopped at a beach full of small holes.

Bai Yu and his companions were very familiar with these small holes; they were the breathing holes of razor clams. These razor clams usually appeared in large numbers, and what was in front of them was a patch of razor clams.

The bamboo clams are different from the clams that Bai Yu and his friends usually dig up. Although they look similar, there are still some differences.

The razor clams we usually refer to are large razor clams, about the thickness of a finger, with some larger king razor clams even reaching the thickness of two fingers.

However, the bamboo clam is different. These creatures are about the size of a finger in length, but they are far less thick. The bamboo clam is very thin and looks like a malnourished clam.

Although bamboo clams are slender and long, and may seem to have little meat, they actually have quite a bit of meat, even though they are not as large as regular clams.

In addition, razor clams usually appear in large groups, making them very easy to catch; simply sprinkle salt on their breathing holes.

This makes it very popular among ordinary beachcombers, since you can find it in large quantities and easily collect a whole plateful at a time. Who wouldn't like that!

"Wow, such a huge patch of razor clams! We're in for a treat! Ah Hai, did you bring a salt shaker? If you did, that's good. Sprinkle some salt on these breathing holes and we'll just sit back and wait for these razor clams to come up."

When Bai Yu saw the razor clams, he immediately reached into his bucket to get the salt bottle, but he found nothing; he hadn't brought the salt bottle with him!

Fortunately, Wang Hai was more reliable. When Bai Yu asked him, he took out a bottle of salt and sprinkled it all over the breathing holes without leaving any blind spots.

Thanks to the fact that the tide hasn't receded too far yet, there's still seawater on the beach where the razor clams are located, and the salt sprinkled on it dissolves very quickly.

In just a few seconds, the salt content of this small patch of beach became several times that of the surrounding area, which is why the razor clams hidden in the sand were forced out.

Soon, bubbles started to come out of these breathing holes, followed by a gush of seawater mixed with mud and sand. Something was trying to crawl out of these holes!

As the razor clams, unable to adapt to the new salinity of the seawater, emerged one after another from their breathing holes.

The moment they emerged, Bai Yu used his personal action camera to record the entire event.

Not only Bai Yu herself, but also Wang Hai, had an action camera attached to him in order to find more angles and more video material for her videos. This allowed her to record the beachcombing trip from multiple angles and with multiple lenses.

Bai Yu is quite concerned about his first beachcombing video after the New Year. He wants to make a video that shows a great harvest and can generate buzz.

These bamboo clams arrived just in time. Don't let their small size fool you; they have auspicious meanings!

Bamboo clams, bamboo clams, bring good fortune to those who see them, whether in their careers or studies!

"Ah Hai, Yue Yue, stop standing there and hurry up and pick up the razor clams. Be gentle, their shells are quite brittle, don't crush them."

After filming the process of these guys emerging from the cave, Bai Yu called on Wang Hai and Bai Yue to get to work.

There are so many razor clams in this area, at least a hundred at a glance. You can easily grab a handful with your hand.

In no time at all, the three of them had devoured all the bamboo clams in the area.

Moreover, to prevent any fish from escaping the net, Bai Yu and his two companions even used rakes to plow the sand. And surprisingly, their efforts actually yielded several catches.

However, the harvest was not razor clams, but moon clams and small clams lying in the sand.

Bai Yu and his companions didn't mind the two inexpensive scallops; they simply put them into the bucket.

Even the most worthless things will become valuable once their quantity increases.

Moreover, the reason they use rakes to dig for scallops and clams is precisely because these are the most abundant seafood items on the beach.

After dealing with the razor clams, Bai Yu and his two companions moved to the Gobi Desert beach. The three walked side by side on the beach, with rakes in their hands loosening the soil behind them.

This is only because the sand is relatively soft, making it easier to plow with a rake. Otherwise, Bai Yu and the others would not have been willing to loosen the sand like old oxen.

But you know what, their tactic actually worked. After the three of them walked forward twenty or thirty meters, twenty or thirty deep gashes were plowed into the sand.

The three of them then turned back and searched the plowed sand, and their search actually yielded some significant discoveries.

First of all, let's leave aside the common and most abundant scallops like moon clams and mussels. They even found a lobster in the furrows that had been plowed out! A little green lobster was stuck naked in the furrows that had been plowed out!

The only thing that made Bai Yue unhappy was that, perhaps when the plow turned the little green dragon out, the plow was positioned slightly incorrectly and broke off two of the little dragon's claws.

As is well known, seafood like lobsters and crabs are highly valued for their perfect appearance; lobsters and crabs that are intact naturally command the highest prices.

This little green dragon has lost two legs. Although it won't affect its life, it's uncertain whether it will affect its price.

"Alright, Yueyue, you're already lucky enough. Look, your brother Hai and I haven't even caught a lobster yet. It's already very good that you caught one. We should know how to be content. Only by being content can we be happy!"

"At worst, we won't sell this little lobster. I'll ask Uncle San about the price of lobsters tomorrow. I'll buy yours; it'll be perfect for adding a main dish to our New Year's Eve dinner. What do you think?"

That's right, Bai Yue dug out this little green dragon with a rake. Bai Yu originally thought that she said she would buy the little green dragon because its leg was broken, which would affect its selling price.

Is that really the case?

"Brother, I don't want you to buy it. Besides, it's not about the money. I just think it's a pity that this little green dragon has lost two legs."

"But since you said you wanted to save the baby dragon for us to eat, then consider this one my donation. Let's use the rake to dig around and see if we can catch a few more!"

Bai Yue rejected Bai Yu's idea without even thinking about it, then put the little green dragon into the bucket and continued searching in the furrows she had plowed.

After searching for a while, the three of them found a lot of scallops and a few snails in the gullies. As for crabs, apart from some small ones, they didn't see a single large one.
