Chapter 175 Longfin Tuna

The longfin tuna, a member of the tuna family, gets its name from the excessive length of its pectoral fins.

Although albacore tuna is a type of tuna, among the tuna species commonly found in Chinese waters, albacore tuna is probably the least valuable.

If we were to rank them, the most expensive would definitely be bluefin tuna, followed by bigeye tuna, then yellowfin tuna, and finally albacore tuna.

There is another species of fish called the Masu tuna, but it is rarely seen in Chinese waters and is more commonly found in Australia, so it is not included in this count.

Finally, there's another type of fish called the dogtooth tuna, which is frequently caught by Chinese fishermen and anglers.

However, the dogtooth tuna is not a tuna; it is a naked skipjack tuna, which just looks somewhat like a tuna and was given that name by people.

If we calculate it this way, then among the tuna species that exist here, putting the albacore tuna last is perfectly reasonable.

With Wang Hai dragging it, the longfin tuna quickly reached the side of the fishing boat. Just then, Wang Hai turned back and said to Bai Yu:

"Brother Fisherman, I caught this fish for you. Don't forget to add braised pork knuckle to my lunch!"

"Don't worry, I've already talked to the chef and he's saved the last pork knuckle for you."

"Alright, Ah Hai, you've been fishing for so long, go take a break. Leave the rest to me and Brother Li; we'll bring it up."

Bai Yu then took the fishing rod from Wang Hai, while Brother Li took out a speargun and aimed it at the head of the longfin tuna.

As Bai Yu struggled to lift the tuna's head, with a 'whoosh', Brother Li fired his harpoon, accurately hitting the creature's head.

The moment Brother Li fired, Bai Yu instinctively crouched down, narrowly avoiding the splash of water caused by the guy's dying struggle.

As the sea calmed down, Bai Yu and Brother Li got back to work, their first task being to fish the fish onto the deck.

Although albacore tuna are generally considered low-value, if they are large enough and plump enough, they can still fetch a good price.

After all, the price of tuna is not limited by its species, but by a variety of factors.

However, without exception, the larger and fatter the tuna, the higher its price tends to be.

The longfin tuna that Bai Yu caught wasn't very big; it was only about 1.2 or 1.3 meters long from head to tail.

But this guy was indeed a real fat man. He was so fat that he looked like a gas cylinder that had come to life.

So when Bai Yu and Brother Li were handling this guy, it took a lot of effort to get it into the landing net and then use a crane to fish it onto the deck.

As always, the first thing to do after catching a big fish is to take a picture with it to commemorate the wonderful moment.

After Bai Yu finished taking the photos, the next task was handed over to Brother Li. He was very good at bleeding and gutting the tuna, and in no time, the blood in the tuna was drained and it was ready to be put into the cabin.

After Bai Yu rebaited the hook and cast his line, he then helped Brother Li put the tuna into the fish hold.

When Bai Yu arrived at the scale outside the freezer, he took the opportunity to check the weight of the tuna. After bleeding and gutting it, the fish still weighed 166 jin!

It's not even 1.5 meters long, but it weighs over 160 kilograms. It really lives up to its fat body size!

"Wow, another big fish weighing over 100 pounds, and it's a tuna! Little Yu, you've really struck it rich this time! First a grouper, then a red grouper, followed by a moonfish, a giant octopus, a sailfish, and a tuna!"

Wow, I didn't even realize it until I counted! You caught such high-end seafood all by yourself! Your catch is probably equivalent to the catch of nineteen other people combined! You're amazing!

After glancing at the weight of the tuna, Brother Li remarked to Bai Yu with a touch of emotion.

Just as Brother Li said, Bai Yu's catch this time was indeed better than expected. High-end seafood that is rarely seen in the past was caught by Bai Yu in groups.

Most importantly, although there are twenty anglers on this fishing boat, only Bai Yu managed to catch a fish weighing over 100 pounds. Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?

With this kind of luck, even if you let Bai Yu go to the lottery shop to buy a lottery ticket and win the first prize, he probably wouldn't be surprised at all. Instead, he would think that Bai Yu's luck was just what he was supposed to do.

This is why Bai Yu didn't know what Li Ge was thinking. If he did, he would definitely have a good talk with Li Ge. He was able to catch big fish because of luck, and he was especially lucky today.

But if you let him buy lottery tickets, then his luck won't work. His luck in fishing can't be confused with his luck in buying lottery tickets.

Bai Yu agreed with what Brother Li said, but didn't offer any further explanation.

Since this voyage began, he has said too many times that he was lucky. Sometimes, if you say something too often, even if it is true, people will inevitably say that you are faking it.

Instead of doing that, Bai Yu might as well openly admit that Brother Li was right and that his gains were indeed very good.

Compared to the catch of the other nineteen people, his individual catch wasn't a sure win, but at least he wouldn't lose too badly.

After settling the tuna, Baiyu returned to his fishing spot, hoping for the arrival of the next big fish.

Bai Yu must have had some incredible luck today; his fishing was exceptionally good. When he returned, his rod was catching fish again. Li Shuang was now at his fishing spot; he had been helping Bai Yu fish when Bai Yu wasn't there.

"Holy crap, I caught another fish? Shuangzi, how's it? Big fish or small fish?"

Seeing that his fishing rod had caught a fish again, Bai Yu immediately ran over and asked Li Shuang about the fishing situation.

"Brother Yu, you're here. How are you? This fish isn't very big, only about fifty or sixty pounds."

"Brother Fisherman, I'll fish for you. You come over to my side and watch my rod for me. Let's switch spots, and you can let me experience catching a big fish too."

Hearing the commotion beside him, Li Shuang didn't even turn his head. He simply told Bai Yu to go to his fishing spot, as he wanted to catch a big fish and have some fun.

"Hey, someone's actually offering to help me out, that's great. Shuangzi, I'll leave this to you, I'll go over there and watch your fishing rods."

"Don't worry, Brother Fisherman, I'll definitely help you catch this fish."

Perhaps because the fish was really small, Li Shuang still had the energy to free up one hand and wave to Bai Yu when he said those words.

And that was indeed the case. After fishing for about ten minutes, Li Shuang dragged a huge bullhead trevally onto the sea!

"Damn it, another bullhead trevally? Am I destined to catch bullhead trevally today? This doesn't make sense, I'm using Brother Fisherman's fishing rod, how come I'm still catching bullhead trevally?"

Li Shuang looked at the trevally on the sea and his whole body went limp.

It turns out that the reason Li Shuang wanted to switch fishing spots with Bai Yu was not only because Bai Yu wasn't at the spot at the time, but also because Li Shuang wanted to change his luck for the day.

Unlike Bai Yu, Li Shuang had already spent the whole morning catching tuna in Niugang. These tuna ranged in size from small to large, with the small ones weighing only five or six jin (2.5-3.5 catties) or seven or eight jin (3.5-4.5 catties) and the large ones weighing forty or fifty jin (20-25 kg).

He has caught eight bullhead trevally so far, which weigh about 130 to 140 pounds in total.

Don't be fooled by the number of trevally he caught; they're not worth much. He spent the whole morning working on them, but compared to Bai Yu's giant catch, his 100-plus trevally couldn't even compare to the value of the giant octopus Bai Yu caught.

That's why Li Shuang wanted to change his fishing situation by switching fishing spots with Bai Yu, since Bai Yu was the luckiest fisherman on the entire fishing boat.

He changed fishing spots not to try and absorb the luck of the whitebait, but to slightly improve his luck. He didn't need it to be too good; he just wanted to catch fewer bullhead trevally and some other kinds of fish instead.

Who knew that the fishing spot had changed, but he still caught a bullhead trevally. Moreover, it was the largest single bullhead trevally he had caught that day. This guy on the surface of the water must weigh at least fifty or sixty pounds, definitely a big fish!
