Chapter 53: Enough to Burn for Three Days and Three Nights

For a moment, there were spots of fire on the sea. Although they were scattered and messy, they temporarily forced back the sharks that were approaching step by step, allowing those people on the verge of collapse to breathe a sigh of relief.

However, after a brief moment of relief, new worries crept into the hearts of the survivors who had just boarded the Luye fishing boat.

"Lu... Boss Lu," the middle-aged man who had previously exchanged solar panels for food looked at the rows of burning torches on the side of the ship, a painful expression on his face, and approached cautiously.

"Isn't this... a waste? How much oil and wood will be burned..."

"Yeah," another person couldn't help but agree, his voice tinged with worry. "The resources at sea are so precious. If these torches burn all night... what will we do with the fuel later? What if we can't find supplies next time..."

A bunch of idiots who only see what's in front of them.

Lu Ye glanced at them, a barely perceptible sneer appearing at the corner of his mouth.

"Worried about that?" he asked flatly.

"Don't worry. I have enough wood on board to keep these torches burning for three days and three nights without even a frown."

Lu Ye had long ago, through systems and plundering, stored far more wood and refined fuel than ordinary people could imagine.

The frozen meat in the ice room can be piled up into a small mountain, and the basic supplies in the warehouse are even more sufficient.

Upon hearing this, the survivors looked at each other with disbelief written all over their faces.

Burning for three days and three nights? How much supplies would that require? They subconsciously thought Lu Ye was just trying to save face, or was simply bragging.

Is this true? Who on this damn sea could have so much reserves?

But the situation is stronger than people, and at the moment they are living under someone else's roof, so they dare not say anything more.

A few people exchanged glances, walked silently to the side of the boat, and took the initiative to help look after the torches, replace the wood that was about to burn out, or add lamp oil.

Regardless of whether he was bragging or not, now we can only hope that the fire can last until dawn...

If even this ship is bitten through... then it will really be a dead end!

They were worried and busy as they went along, and couldn't help but look at the dark water surface frequently, fearing that the steel sharks would come back, or that this seemingly sturdy ship would not be able to withstand the terrifying saw teeth.

Lu Ye seemed to be fine and just made some simple arrangements.

"Hebei, Baiyue, you guys take turns keeping watch, two hours a shift. The rest of you take this time to rest."

Shen Hebei immediately agreed, and Su Baiyue also nodded.

Although Xiao Yiyi was scared, she still forced herself to be brave and said that she could guard the first shift first.

Time passes by every second.

The night grew darker and the sea breeze grew colder.

The fire on the side of the ship never diminished in the slightest.

Whenever a torch was about to burn out, the night watchman would immediately replace it with new fuel to ensure the continued light.

On the deck, apart from the footsteps of the night watchmen and the crackling of the flames, there was only the sound of waves crashing against the wreckage in the distance.

The survivors who helped look after the torches went from being skeptical at first, to being numb, and finally to being shocked!

They watched with their own eyes as Shen Hebei, Su Baiyue and the others repeatedly took out bundles of firewood and oil drums from the warehouse, adding them to the fire or replacing torches without batting an eyelid. The reserves seemed truly endless!

He wasn't bragging?!

How is it possible to store so many supplies in this damn place?!

The way these survivors looked at Lu Ye also changed completely.

Finally, when a hint of dawn appeared in the eastern sky and the first ray of morning light pierced the darkness and fell on the sea, the torches around the fishing boats were still burning tenaciously, emitting the last light and heat.

A night...passed.

The school of steelhead sharks had long disappeared, seemingly having dived into the deep sea with the arrival of daylight.

The survivors who helped guard the fire all night were now exhausted both physically and mentally, but they were more in a trance of surviving a disaster and had an unfathomable awe for Lu Ye.

At dawn, they all found Lu Ye.

"Boss Lu...we..." The middle-aged man opened his mouth, wanting to say something of thanks, but didn't know where to start.

Lu Ye waved his hand, signaling them not to say anything more.

In the distance, on the broken ships that were completely damaged and almost half-sunk in the water, the remaining survivors watched their companions leave, with deep regret written on their faces.

"Damn it! If I had known last night, I should have desperately begged him to take me in!"

"What should we do now? Our ship is completely destroyed! We can't leave!"

"It's over... We're all going to die here..."

Lu Ye drove the fishing boat and slowly approached the wreckage of the broken ships.

He stood at the bow, looking down at the survivors with no expression on his face.

"Do you want to live?" His voice was as cold as ice.

"I want it! I want it! Boss Lu! Please give us another chance!" A man who seemed to be the leader immediately raised his head, with a strong desire to survive bursting out of his eyes.

"Opportunity?" A cold arc appeared at the corner of Lu Ye's mouth.

"I can give you one."

He paused, his eyes sweeping across this unusually calm sea area where even ordinary fish were rarely seen. Combined with the occasional abnormal signals flashing on the system map before, he already had some guesses in his mind.

"The magnetic field in this area is a bit strange. Find out what's causing the abnormal magnetic field."

Lu Ye slowly spoke and put forward a condition, "Find the reason and tell me, and I will give you two usable motorboats."

"Two?!" A player immediately jumped up and retorted anxiously.

"We have three teams here! Two ships aren't enough!"

Oh, now you know how to be fair?

Upon hearing this, Lu Ye uttered an undisguised sneer, his eyes suddenly becoming as sharp as a knife, piercing straight at the person who objected.

"Three teams?" His voice suddenly turned harsh.

"When I first approached this sea area, who were the people on those ships who tied up my brother Shenhe Bei and planned to steal his supplies?!"

"If I hadn't arrived in time, it's hard to say whether he is dead or alive now!"

"Now, I'm giving you a chance to live. This is already a special favor because we're all human beings!"

"Two ships, whether you want it or not!" Lu Ye said firmly.

"As for how you three teams divide up...that's your business!"

After saying that, he stopped looking at the survivors whose faces turned pale in an instant, turned around and signaled Su Baiyue to turn the boat around.

The three teams that were left on the verge of despair and infighting faced the cruel choices given by Lu Ye in the cold sea breeze.

Either they work together to find the secret, and then kill each other for the only two escape spots;

Or... just stay in this strange sea, waiting for the next crisis to come, and become fish feed together.

The eyes of the people who had just been shining with joy because they had found a "way to survive" now became dull again, and even had a hint of subtle cruelty.

They looked at each other. Their former companions had now become potential enemies competing for survival.
