"It seems I really don't have the talent for catching fish."
Discarding the branch, Gu Mian abandoned the idea of catching fish with it.
It was almost 2 p.m., and the sun was getting increasingly scorching. Gu Mian squatted down, scooped up a handful of water, and washed her face.
After being exposed to the sun for a long time, the water in the pool no longer felt cool.
My throat is very dry, and I want to drink water.
Looking at the clear pool water, Gu Mian swallowed hard, managing to resist the urge to bury her head and drink.
The presence of fish in the pond indicates that the water must be clean; otherwise, these fish wouldn't be able to survive.
However, clean water does not mean it is free of parasites. It is best to boil the water before drinking it, otherwise you may get an upset stomach.
After wiping the water off her face, Gu Mian got up and walked towards the cave.
The sun is too strong outside; she should probably avoid it for now.
...
About ten minutes later, Jiang Bai walked into the cave, covered in sweat.
As soon as he entered, a wave of heat hit her, and Gu Mian instinctively stepped back, then took out a boxed lunch from her backpack and handed it to him.
"You didn't eat lunch, did you? Let's eat first, we can talk about everything later."
"Okay." Jiang Bai didn't say anything more, took the lunchbox, casually found a place to sit down, and started eating.
Jiang Bai must have been starving, because he ate very quickly, finishing his entire boxed lunch in less than five minutes.
Jiang Bai: "Is there anything else?"
“Yes…” Gu Mian paused for a moment before taking another copy out of her backpack.
...
"It smells so good! What are you eating? Get me some too, I'm starving!"
Before Xu Kun even entered the cave, the rich aroma of food wafted into his nostrils, making his stomach rumble loudly.
Jiang Bai swallowed the last bite of rice in his mouth, then closed the lid of the lunchbox, looked up at him, and said, "You're so slow. I've been here for almost half an hour."
"Damn it!" Xu Kun protested. "If you were like me and the system teleported you to that godforsaken place, you'd definitely arrive even slower than me."
"Eat first, eat first." Gu Mian took out two more boxed lunches from her backpack and stuffed them into Xu Kun's hands. "We can talk after you finish eating."
"Hmph! My sister is still the best to me!" Xu Kun snorted, turned his back to Jiang Bai, sat down, opened his lunchbox, and buried himself in his food.
Gu Mian: ...
You're quite arrogant, aren't you?
...
After Xu Kun finished eating, the three of them exchanged information about their situations.
Upon learning that Xu Kun had found a task card and that the task was to catch ten fish within two days, he immediately said that there were fish in the pond outside.
Without wasting a moment, Xu Kun went out under the blazing sun to make tools for catching fish.
Jiang Bai: "I'll go help too."
"Okay, okay." Gu Mian waved her hand listlessly and continued to rest with her eyes closed against the cave wall.
With the sun so strong, she didn't have the courage to go out; she'd better wait and see.
...
Xu Kun had learned how to weave fish baskets online when he was bored before, so when he received this task, his first thought was to weave a fish basket to catch fish.
However, weaving fish baskets requires bamboo, which is clearly not available here.
So he had to settle for second best and went to the grove to break off many flexible branches to use as a substitute.
When Jiang Bai entered the grove, he saw Xu Kun sitting on the ground, weaving with tree branches in a very professional manner.
"Wow, I didn't know you had this skill!"
Xu Kun raised an eyebrow smugly, "There's a lot you don't know."
Jiang Bai: "You're getting all worked up just because I said you're fat."
"Damn it!" Xu Kun rolled his eyes at him. "You're not happy unless you say something sarcastic or hurt me, are you?"
Jiang Bai paused for a moment, then pretended not to hear him.
...
After weaving a simple, rough fish basket, Xu Kun found a moist and fertile spot in the woods.
I picked up a branch about the thickness of my wrist from the ground and used the relatively sharp end to dig away the surface soil.
In no time, he dug up more than a dozen fat, large black earthworms.
He threw all the earthworms into the fish basket, then carried the basket towards the pond.
"Is this many earthworms enough?" Jiang Bai asked, following behind him.
"Should that be enough?" Xu Kun wasn't too sure either. He looked at the rough fish basket in his hand and said nonchalantly, "Let's try it first. If we can't catch any fish, we'll think of something else."
Xu Kun walked to the edge of the pool and casually tossed the fish basket in his hand into the water, where it landed steadily.
"Let's go back." Xu Kun washed his hands and looked up to greet Jiang Bai.
Jiang Bai: "Mm."
...
It rained lightly around six o'clock. The rain was short-lived, and the ground wasn't even completely soaked before it stopped.
Gu Mian leaned against the wall, closed her eyes to rest, and eventually fell asleep.
She was alone in the cave before she fell asleep, and she was still alone in the cave after she woke up.
After getting up and stretching her stiff limbs, Gu Mian walked outside the cave and found that there was no one to be seen outside.
She wandered around outside, puzzled, and was just about to send a message to ask when she saw Xu Kun and Jiang Bai emerge from the grove, each carrying a pheasant.
Gu Mian: "Where did you catch this pheasant? It's quite plump."
It probably weighs about 4.5 kilograms.
Xu Kun: "Old Bai and I went for a walk behind the woods and happened to run into this group of pheasants catching insects to eat."
Before we could even react, the pheasants pounced on us fiercely.
Hey! That's great, dinner's sorted for tonight.
