Chapter 26: Obtain sea duck eggs and capture pheasants (1/2)

26. Obtain sea duck eggs and catch wild pheasants.

On the 7th day of the sea calendar, Gu Xi woke up early in the morning and realized that she had forgotten to make paper for Sun Yiming. Since she needed to go to the island in the morning, she quickly used 5 pieces of wood to make 50 sheets of paper.

Paper can be made from 1 unit of wood, producing 10 sheets, and the size can be selected. Gu Xi thought that there was no pen, so she selected the largest size of paper for him, and then sent it over as a gift from a friend, asking for 5 iron ingots.

She also collected the items she had traded and cleared the trading slot.

Today is the 6th day of her maritime calendar, and the rain has escalated from moderate to torrential. This downpour has caused her considerable inconvenience in her journey.

Even so, Gu Xi still had to go out. There were so many resources on the island; if she could only look but not take them, she would be itching to get them.

Gu Xi's goal for today was clear: first, to catch pheasants and sea ducks to solve the problem of meat and eggs later. Then, he would gather medicinal herbs.

Following the island resource map, Gu Xi walked for about an hour and found the gathering place of pheasants and sea ducks.

[Game Hint: Pheasant Found]

[Game Hint: Duck Spotted]

[Game Tip: All creatures can be captured, but cannot be tamed. Please handle them with care.]

Gu Xi, who already had five fish, remained silent, completely ignoring the last game tip.

The pheasants and sea ducks were all soaked to the bone, moving slowly and occasionally spacing out.

For Gu Xi, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

While killing a chicken or a duck is easy, capturing one alive is much more difficult.

The rain blurred their vision, confused their sounds, and mixed their smells, so they were completely unaware of Gu Xi's plan to capture them alive.

Gu Xi crouched quietly in the bushes, secretly making plans.

First of all, the iron spikes are useless, so put them away and don't scare them.

Secondly, they needed some food to distract them. Gu Xi had prepared some chopped strawberries for this purpose.

Finally, just put these things near their mouths, and while they're eating, you can grab them one by one.

Gu Xi was truly grateful to the heavens for the rain; otherwise, the chickens and ducks would have been injured before they could go home with her.

Gu Xi held a few strawberries in her hand. To enhance the aroma, she broke them into pieces one by one. Although the fragrance was diluted a bit by the rain, it was still quite strong.

Gu Xi imitated how her deceased grandfather fed the chickens, scattering handfuls of strawberry crumbs to the chickens and ducks.

The dull-witted duck instinctively pecked at the food and began to eat it with smacking sounds.

Gu Xi crouched down, hiding in the grass two meters away. Seeing the ducks eating happily, she turned her head to look at the pheasants.

A pheasant with a long tail pecked at a strawberry with its sharp beak. Then, as if it had taken some kind of stimulant, the pheasant stopped being dazed and its movements became swift. It pounced on the wild duck, pecking it away, and the pheasant monopolized the entire strawberry crumb.

Gu Xi had no idea that the chicken would do such a crazy thing, but even more amazing things were yet to come.

The other chickens, which were further away, noticed that the first pheasant was eating alone. They instantly perked up, braving the heavy rain, and swooped down into the low air, using their front claws to strike the first pheasant.

The first pheasant was not to be outdone. It leaped up with its claws, flapped its wings, and shooed away the pheasants that approached it.

A flock of chickens clucked and scurried about in a chaotic mess.

Are they fighting? Gu Xi belatedly realized that the chickens were not simply fighting over food.

The sea duck, though stunned, knew to keep its distance, but its eggs were left forgotten in the grass.

Gu Xi crouched down and moved towards the eggs, counting as she went.

One, two, three... seven, eight

Eight plump sea duck eggs were piled up in the straw nest, which was a good deal for her, as she could eat them all at once.
