Chapter 2: Using a Stone Axe to Crack Open the Coconut
This is not something a novice like her needs to consider.
After realizing it was pointless, Su Tinglu tossed the sand in her hand and walked toward the lone coconut tree in the center of the island.
The coconut tree was very tall and had coconuts growing on it. Su Tinglu was delighted and tentatively shook the trunk of the coconut tree. The next moment, with a "thud," a coconut the size of a ball fell down and rolled past Su Tinglu on the ground.
Su Tinglu was still in shock. She was certain that if the coconut had hit her on the head, she would have been the first player to be killed by a coconut.
Because at this moment, the sand where the coconut was resting had already begun to sink.
Su Tinglu quickly stepped forward to check, and when she picked it up, a line of item prompts appeared next to it.
Coconuts are rich in coconut water and abundant coconut meat and shredded coconut. They are edible and can be used to make a variety of delicacies. Their characteristic is that their shells are hard and require a stone axe to break open.
Su Tinglu was stunned when she saw the last line of text.
Stone ax?
Where did she get the stone axe?
Having finally obtained coconuts, but only able to look at them and not eat them, Su Tinglu had no choice but to put them down.
Does this survival game have any humanity at all?
You start with a raft and an island, nothing else. The key point is, if the newbie protection period is this difficult, what about after five days?
Su Tinglu didn't want to die.
She walked onto the raft, scooped up a handful of icy seawater, and then a prompt appeared beside her.
Seawater contains high levels of salt and is not safe to drink. Drinking it will cause dehydration, and in severe cases, can be fatal. Note that using a seawater filter can produce purified, drinkable water.
Seawater filter?
Su Tinglu reopened the chat room, hoping to obtain some useful information.
The number of players is still decreasing, but the frequency of the decrease is obviously not as high as at the beginning.
Many people probably understand that players are safest on islands and rafts.
Everyone became lively again.
My island is an ice field, and the ice on it is actually edible! Anyone want to buy water? Trade me wood!
【I'll trade with you. My island is mountainous and forested; I can get wood by breaking off some bushes!】
Add me as a friend, let's make a deal!
The two stopped speaking in the chat room, presumably to make a transaction.
Su Tinglu now feels like she's having bad luck again.
Because she has nothing but coconut trees and sand! Let alone any wood.
Just then, a man with the system default avatar and the ID "The Great River Flows East" suddenly spoke up:
[Hahaha, my island is a deserted village with a bunch of supplies. I counted them: stone axes, a wooden hut, a workbench, and a piece of moldy bread!]
Stone ax?
Su Tinglu's eyes lit up.
This person is incredibly lucky!
So, can her coconut be opened now?
But how can she get that person's help?
Su Tinglu decisively clicked on the player's avatar and sent a private message.
Blank space: [Dude, do you really have a stone axe?]
The other side quickly replied: "Yeah, what's wrong? You've got your eye on something and want to trade it for other supplies?"
Blank: [No, here's what happened. I just found an incredibly hard coconut on the island. I happened to open the chat room and saw that you had a stone axe, so I wanted to try and see if I could break it with it.]
The river flows eastward: [Coconuts are good stuff, but... who knows if you're lying to me?]
Scammers are everywhere, both in the real world and in the game world.
It's normal to be wary.
Su Tinglu thought for a moment and replied, "How about this, you help me break open this coconut, and I'll share half of the coconut water with you, okay?"
The other party did not reply.
Su Tinglu sighed. In fact, she knew from the beginning that the other party would not agree. After all, how could the other party lend her the stone axe that they had worked so hard to obtain?
But she was still determined to give it a try.
Furthermore, she would not agree to exchange coconuts if the other party asked her to do so.
After all, the two had absolutely no connection, so where did the trust come from?
Su Tinglu could only think of other solutions.
She browsed the trading hall again and found that many players were selling various basic resources.
For example, wood, withered grass, stones, clods of earth...
They wanted to exchange food for everything.
She didn't have any food.
Su Tinglu could only try to untie the ropes on the raft and slide it out to sea to see what would happen.
Because there was a hint next to the rope:
[The rope used to tie the raft is important. If the rope disappears, your raft will drift away with the wind and disappear into the vast ocean, never to be found again.]
Su Tinglu immediately tied the rope around her wrist. Almost the instant the rope came off, the raft seemed to sever some kind of special connection with the island and began to slowly move towards the sea ahead.
The seawater here is deep blue and bottomless; she can't see any living creatures.
Thinking of the man-eating shark mentioned in the game broadcast, Su Tinglu moved closer to the middle of the raft. She tried using her hands as oars, and after confirming that she was not under attack, she steered the raft in the right direction.
It seems that as long as you don't jump into the sea, you won't be attacked by marine life.
She continued driving forward.
The sea stretched as far as the eye could see, filled with unknown fears.
Everything felt so real.
She first circled the island, then randomly chose a direction and kept driving.
I remember at the beginning of the game it was said that there might be messages in bottles and treasure chests on the sea. I don’t know if it was because of the newbie protection period, but Su Tinglu actually found a bottle.
She immediately fished it out and opened the cork.
Inside was a yellowed piece of paper, and when unfolded, there was a line of small print on it.
[Hey, have you ever seen a beach? Have you ever seen a meadow? I've seen everything except those two. When will I finally see a beach? I can't wait to eat a coconut! —Avery Effleck]
Avery?
Are there other people on the ocean?
Su Tinglu silently memorized the person's name. She kept the note safe and tried to fill a bottle with seawater using a drifting bottle.
After doing all this, Su Tinglu returned to base.
She had barely tied the raft with the rope when a voice rang in her ears.
Player "Dahe Xiangdongliu" has replied to your message. Would you like to view it?
Su Tinglu was overjoyed and quickly opened it.
The river flows eastward: [I agree to lend you the stone axe, but I want not only half a coconut water, but bottled water too!]
She just happened to find a message in a bottle!
Su Tinglu was overjoyed; it was truly a godsend!
She quickly replied: 【No problem】
A notification then appeared: [Player Dahe Xiangdongliu has sent you a stone axe. Do you wish to accept it?]
