As night falls, warm light shines through the window into the slightly old room.
At home, Li Lin, who had just finished taking a shower, nestled comfortably on the old leather sofa. The traces of wear and tear on the surface of the sofa recorded the passing of time.
Li Rong sat quietly beside him, stretched out her slightly old hands full of traces of time, and gently stroked Li Lin's head with full of doting.
Li Lin's hair was not yet completely dry, with crystal water droplets hanging on the wet ends. However, Li Rong did not mind at all, and her eyes were full of tenderness and concern.
Then she stood up, walked lightly to the bathroom, and returned after a while with a snow-white towel.
She sat beside Li Lin and wiped his hair gently, each movement filled with deep love.
Li Lin raised the corners of his mouth, a warm smile appeared on his face, and said, "Aunt, I'm not a child anymore, you still want to wipe my hair?"
Li Rong's face was filled with a loving smile, and she said softly, "It's so cold, what if you catch a cold? You don't know how to take care of your body, and you still say you're not a child?"
Li Lin took the towel from Li Rong, still smiling, and said, "I'll do it myself."
Li Rong handed the towel to Li Lin, then sat down at the coffee table, picked up a fruit knife, and began to carefully peel an apple for him.
Her movements were skillful and graceful, and in a short while, a round apple was peeled.
Then, she considerately cut the apple into small pieces of even size, inserted toothpicks, and gently pushed the fruit plate in front of Li Lin, saying earnestly, "You are already the county magistrate, it's time for you to learn to take care of yourself. You travel all over the world, and I am always worried about you at home... I worry that you don't eat well, don't sleep well, and are you sick... Xiaolin..."
Li Rong called Li Lin softly, then paused. She didn't continue talking, but just stared at Li Lin intently. Her eyes seemed to tell thousands of words, as if Li Lin could understand her feelings even if she didn't say them out loud.
As expected, Li Lin put down the towel, picked up a piece of apple from the fruit plate, put it in his mouth and chewed it carefully, then picked up another piece and passed it to Li Rong's mouth. Watching Li Rong eat it, he smiled and said, "Aunt, I know what you are going to say. Are you going to urge me to get married again? It's not even the New Year yet, and you can't wait to urge me?"
Li Rong smiled and put down the toothpick in her hand. She said in a gentle tone, "I'm not rushing you because I'm worried that you don't have anyone to take care of you outside... You've been in the provincial capital for so long, and I don't know when you're not busy, and I don't dare to call you. If you had a wife to take care of you, wouldn't I have to worry so much about you?"
Li Lin still had a smile on his face, and he comforted Li Rong softly, "Aunt, I understand your feelings, but this kind of thing can't be rushed..."
Li Rong's expression changed slightly, pretending to be unhappy. Her face darkened and she said, "Are you still keeping me in suspense? I've heard Qiao An tell me that you have a girlfriend in the provincial capital, and she's a university teacher... No wonder you're not tempted by the girl downstairs who's so nice to you, it turns out there's someone else in your heart... You still want to hide it from me, your aunt? Tell me, when will you bring her back so I can see her?"
Li Lin scratched his head a little embarrassedly, laughed dryly twice, then held Li Rong's hand and said apologetically, "Aunt, I didn't mean to hide it from you, but I was too busy recently... I was so busy that I didn't report to you in time... Her name is Xu Wen, she is an ordinary teacher at my alma mater, Handan University, one year younger than me..."
Facing Li Rong's questioning, Li Lin told her everything about Xu Wen without reservation. He also mentioned that he had planned to visit her home this year, but something unexpected happened and he was unable to do so. Now he has returned to his hometown in Yanjing, and he will bring her to see Li Rong when he returns to the provincial capital.
After hearing this, Li Rong's face lit up with a happy smile. She reached out and gently tapped Li Lin's head and said, "You can't hide it anymore, right? Then do as you said. You must let me see you after the Chinese New Year. If you dare to lie to an old woman like me, I will start looking for a blind date for you after the Chinese New Year! Don't you think about how old you are? How many people in the system are still unmarried at the age of 27 or 28?
Especially as a leader, you are a county leader... You don't take the lead in the national call for more births... I think, if the girl doesn't despise you, you two should hurry up and get the job done. Your aunt is still in good health and can take care of your children for a few more years... When I get old, I won't be able to help you even if I want to."
"Aunt..." Li Lin felt inexplicably touched. He knew that the old lady was urging him to get married, but she just wanted to help them take care of the children while he was still able. He wanted to say thank you, but he felt that he owed Aunt Li Rong too much in this life. A simple thank you was too thin to express his inner gratitude.
Li Lin held Li Rong's slightly old hand tightly, his eyes sparkling with sparkling light, silently looking at Li Rong's kind smile. After a long time, he said softly, "Auntie, thank you for your hard work."
Li Rong smiled and broke free from his hand, gently slapped the back of his hand, and said, "If you think I'm having a hard time, then hurry up and get married and give birth to a little Li Lin to accompany me. In the future, you two will be busy with work, and I won't be so lonely at home with little Li Lin to accompany me."
Hearing this, Li Lin smiled foolishly like a child. To be precise, in front of his aunt Li Rong, he would always be the child who would never grow up.
At this moment, a crisp cell phone ringtone broke the warmth and tranquility. Li Lin reached out and picked up the phone on the table, glanced at the caller ID, and frowned slightly.
