Mu Yiran and the tattooed man rushed from the hotel to the hospital, asking the nurses at the nurses' station for directions and finding the exact door to the operating room.
As soon as she arrived, Mu Yiran saw Li Buhuo standing outside the waiting room.
"Li Buhuo? What are you doing here?"
What's the situation now?
Li Bu Huo looked up in response, glanced at the tattooed man behind him, and said, "I went to the school this afternoon to sign a contract with the person in charge, but I got lost and found Andre unconscious at the back door of the infirmary."
Did you get lost by accident?
"Well then, you've done a good deed and brought honor to the company. Not bad," Mu Yiran said with a perfunctory compliment.
Although she had her suspicions, she knew that if Li Buhuo were a suspect, the police would have taken him away long ago.
Besides, what could Li Bu Huo have done to Andrei if they had no grudges against each other? It couldn't be that he accidentally injured Andrei because they were rivals in love and got angry at each other.
She glanced at the police officer questioning school staff in the waiting room and asked Li Buhuo, "Did you call the police too?"
Li Bu Huo shook his head, "I only called an ambulance; it must have been another student who called."
"Student? Who?"
Li Bu Huo's lips curled up, a strange glint in his eyes, and he gestured with his chin toward the person behind her, "What a coincidence, he's President Cheng's stepson."
"What?" Mu Yiran subconsciously turned around and saw Shi Youxi's figure in school uniform slowly walking out of the toilet stall behind her.
The boy's face was a little pale, and his lips had lost all color. He took a few steps closer before he saw Mu Yiran and her tattooed arms. His eyes lit up, and he instantly pressed himself against her.
"Auntie, what brings you here?"
"The police called me and said that Andrei had spoken to me before, so I should cooperate with the investigation."
"But why do you look so pale?"
Seeing that she was concerned about his health first, the young man's eyes were filled with a satisfied smile, and he reassuringly took Mu Yiran's hand that was resting on his arm.
"I suddenly felt very unwell during class. When I went to the infirmary to rest, I heard a noise and found that the school doctor... was also there to cooperate with the investigation."
"Feeling very unwell?" Mu Yiran believed him, after all, he looked really bad.
Shi Youxi caught a glimpse of Li Buhuo out of the corner of her eye; his eyes were dull and unreadable. She grabbed Mu Yiran's hand and pressed it against her cheek. "He seems to have a fever..."
Upon hearing this, Mu Yiran wanted to press her forehead against his to check his temperature, but she realized what was happening when she saw the eyes of the tattooed man secretly peeking at Shi Youxi from behind.
"Let's call a nurse, we're already at the hospital anyway."
Just as she was about to pull Shi Youxi to find a nurse, the police officer in the observation room came out and looked at Mu Yiran, saying, "Are you Miss Cheng?"
"I am."
The police officer's gaze swept over her and Shi Youxi. "Who are you and the classmate who called the police?"
“I am his parent,” Mu Yiran replied.
"What a coincidence. Miss Cheng, may I ask you a few simple questions now?" These people are all powerful and influential families in the capital that no one can afford to offend. It's impossible for the police to ask them to go to the police station. The police can only ask them questions now.
Mu Yiran gestured to Shi Youxi with her eyes, "Why don't you go by yourself?"
Shi Youxi held the woman's hand tightly, and the two were very close. The woman with the tattooed arm couldn't stand it and stepped aside to block their clasped hands.
Shi Youxi obediently shook her head: "No, I'll wait for you, and the police haven't asked me anything yet."
Police officer: "Let's do it together. I'll just ask a few simple questions; it won't take up too much of your time."
“Ms. Cheng, we have reviewed the surveillance footage from the school hospital. You had a conversation with the injured person for a few minutes the day before yesterday afternoon.”
"Is this your first time meeting? What did you talk about?"
Mu Yiran said without changing her expression, "I came to the school to see Xiaoxi because of work. Our company has a filming project that we want to collaborate with the school on, but I accidentally sprained my ankle halfway through. So I went to the infirmary."
"This should have been captured on the school hospital's surveillance cameras at the time."
As the police officer took notes, he said, "There are two places in the infirmary without surveillance cameras. One is broken, and the other is the area where the injured person was hurt, which was never supposed to be covered by cameras."
What a coincidence! There was no CCTV footage of the scene where Andrei was injured.
Mu Yiran was suspicious, but continued, "That was the first time I met Mr. Andrei. He gave me the medicine, and we only talked about some precautions for applying it."
The police questioned, "Is this your first meeting? In the surveillance footage, Ms. Cheng and the injured person seem to be behaving rather intimately."
These words drew the attention of the three people around her to Mu Yiran. She cursed inwardly, but put on an awkward expression and said, "I had contact with him abroad before, so you could say he's my ex."
Shi Youxi's face tightened when he heard Mu Yiran admit to her relationship with Andrei.
Is he really my ex...?
After all, he didn't know when his sister became Cheng Ran. What if it was before she returned to China?
What if the person dating Andrei really does become Cheng Ran's older sister?
Shi Youxi never exposed his sister's identity, not only because he couldn't find any evidence, but also because he was afraid... afraid that his sister would leave him again.
He didn't mind continuing to pretend, as long as his sister was by his side.
But others can't.
It just won't work.
"That day was indeed the first time we met after I returned to China. Andrei suggested we go on a date, but I declined, since I am now a married man."
"Besides, exes are exes, so of course you don't know each other after a breakup."
Mu Yiran's words were half true and half false, and the police seemed to believe her, nodding without questioning her.
"Well, I have a few questions too. You entered the school hospital at 3:15 pm, and went to the injured person's office before going to the rest room. What were you doing there?"
Mu Yiran also looked up at Shi Youxi.
When the other person met Mu Yiran's gaze, they immediately turned their head away for some reason.
Mu Yiran felt the boy's grip on her hand suddenly tighten.
Why is she throwing a tantrum for no reason again?
"Xiao Xi, you—"
"I suspected my aunt was having an affair."
Mu Yiran looked up sharply: Holy crap?!
Before she could explain, Shi Youxi spoke first: "Because I also saw her being very intimate with the school doctor the day before yesterday afternoon, I wanted to test the school doctor."
Furthermore, Shi Youxi also knew that Mu Yiran had just gone to the hotel.
It was arranged with Andrei, wasn't it?
Was the woman dating Andrei truly his sister, or was she only meeting him out of necessity due to her social status?
Shi Youxi grew angrier the more he thought about it. He didn't know what he was angry about, but this feeling of being overwhelmed and depressed was driving him crazy.
The boy completely ignored Mu Yiran's persistent attempts to explain.
Realizing he had uncovered some scandalous affair, the police officer awkwardly changed the subject, "Um, from the time you left the injured person's office to the break room, and finally left the school hospital after hearing the commotion, did you not leave the school hospital or see any suspicious people in between?"
Upon hearing this, Shi Youxi glanced at Li Buhuo, who had remained silent, and said calmly, "I only went out because I heard this uncle's cries for help. Is he a suspicious person?"
Li Bu Huo raised an eyebrow slightly. "I just told the police that I got lost and only found the school doctor after hearing a sound like something heavy falling to the ground."
"Suspicious people, people in the school are even more suspicious, anyone familiar with the school hospital knows where there are no surveillance cameras."
“If that’s the case,” Li Bu Huo smiled slightly, looking at Shi You Xi, “all the staff in the school hospital, as well as the students who went to the school hospital today, including Shi, are also considered suspicious people, aren’t they?”
