Chapter 37 Tuna Sushi: On Understanding
The three of them found a sushi restaurant nearby and sat down.
Akina Amaho observed the environment inside the store and then breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Fortunately, this wasn't a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, otherwise she would have found it very troublesome.
Miyako flipped through the menu with great interest, ordered a plate of sushi, and then looked back at Amaho Akina.
"I wonder how the sushi here tastes."
After all, he had never been to this store before.
Gong Zhi also shook his head. He had never been here before, nor did he have any coupons from this store. It seemed that this store was newly opened.
"This is my first time here too. I'll find out how it tastes after I try it," said Akina Amami, shrugging.
However, even the worst sushi can't taste that bad.
"Oh—let me try this." The sushi platter was served, with a few tuna nigiri, a few tuna, and one that seemed to be wrapped with sea urchin...?
I don't know why, but there are some wrapped with sea urchin.
Akina felt cold sweat trickling down her back. She picked up a tuna nigiri and put it in her mouth.
Hmm, the taste is not bad.
Miyaji also picked up a piece of sushi and put it in his mouth: "The taste of this restaurant is not bad."
He started thinking about saving up some coupons so he could come back here to eat again.
Akina Amazu chewed and swallowed the sushi in her mouth, and the other two also picked up sushi and started eating.
Gong You frowned, dipped his finger in vinegar, then in wasabi, before putting it in his mouth.
Hmm, it seems he doesn't usually eat sushi. Akina Amaho nodded secretly.
She didn't dip it in anything, just put it directly into her mouth, and the original flavor was also very good.
After the three of them finished their dinner quietly, they headed towards Amaho Akina's residence.
After dinner, they should take the paintings home with them, and Gong You was looking forward to it.
"Minnai, what exactly did you paint to make these oil paintings? Is it one painting for each person?" Of course, he was also very curious about what the paintings he was about to see would be like.
“Hmm… it’s a painting. Oil paintings take a long time to complete, so I painted the two of you into the same painting,” said Akina Amami.
She knew all along that Gong You would ask such a question.
"Is that so... Damn it, why did I have to be in the same painting as Osamu?" Miya Yu muttered to himself.
Akina Amaho didn't quite catch it, but Miyaji heard it clearly.
The veins on his forehead throbbed again.
"Yoo, I don't want to be in the same painting as you either."
Amane Akina glanced at them helplessly. The two of them were now a few steps behind her, glaring at each other, looking like they could start fighting at any moment.
Akina Amane: "We just finished eating, so it's better not to fight."
Well, but if they really want to fight, there's nothing I can do about it.
I guess I did my best.
The two exchanged a glance, and Miyaji still pulled his fist back.
Well, let's deal with this when we get home. Let's not fight in front of Amaho Akina.
Speaking of the meal they just finished eating, Miyako still didn't quite understand why Amako Akina liked sushi so much. She would always be possessive of the sushi whenever it was served and wouldn't let them have a taste.
"Although the sushi does taste good... why does Mina like sushi so much?" There are plenty of other delicious foods, aren't there? He asked Miyaji in a low voice.
"Can you really give a reason for liking something?" Miyaji glanced at him sideways.
Gong You pouted: "Ah, next time I might as well bring some sushi for Mina, she'll definitely be happy."
Hmm, maybe because she's so happy, she'll give him a few more paintings.
"Then you should try to save up some money and buy her a sushi gift box," Miyaji said.
He won't help with this.
While Amaho Akina would be very happy, Miyaji doesn't want happiness to be just this level.
Akina Ameho had no idea what they were talking about, she only heard them whispering, seemingly about sushi or something.
Curious, she turned around and asked, "What were you talking about just now?"
Gong You quickly waved his hand: "Ah, it's nothing."
He still wanted to keep this a secret. If Mina found out what he wanted to give her, wouldn't the plan be completely ruined?
Akina looked at him suspiciously, even though she had just heard something about sushi.
However, since Gong You said it was nothing, she would believe him.
So Akina shrugged: "Okay."
After saying that, she stopped in front of the door, unlocked it with her key, and then slightly turned her body to indicate that the two of them should go in first.
"You two go in first," she said.
Gong Zhi nodded, unlike Gong You who was still hesitating, and took the first step to walk inside.
What came into view was a wall covered with paintings. Gong Zhi was stunned. On that wall were paintings by himself and Gong You.
Of course, besides these, there are a few other paintings by other people, also from the volleyball team.
Miyako also walked in. He had just received a signal from Amaho Akina and, not knowing what he was hesitating about, quickly stepped forward.
He stood next to Miyaji, staring blankly at the wall covered with paintings.
Amako Akina and the others walked in one step behind, and seeing that the two of them were standing there without moving, they were a little puzzled.
"Why are you two standing there motionless?" She walked over, followed their gaze, and suddenly realized.
So she was looking at the paintings hanging on the wall.
Being stared at like that made her feel a little... embarrassed.
She scratched her cheek and lowered her head slightly.
"Let's not look at those for now. You've all seen them before." With that, she walked towards the easel.
Miya Yu's mouth remained agape as he looked at Amaho Akina.
"You actually hang paintings on the wall?"
Akina Amane was still a little embarrassed, avoiding their gazes: "Yes, I hung up the paintings to record my own growth."
As she spoke, she looked up at the wall again: "That way, when I see those paintings, I can also know what areas I still need to grow in, or what my shortcomings are."
Hanging those paintings is, in a way, a form of comfort.
Miyaji glanced at it again. The photo that had been hanging on the wall when he first visited Amaho Akina's house was still missing; Amaho Akina had probably put it away.
Although I'd like to ask, the timing doesn't seem quite right.
So Miyaji didn't ask anything. He just looked at the easel and walked over there.
"Let me see what it looks like."
When he stood in front of the easel, he couldn't help but pause in surprise.
Although he didn't really know how to appreciate paintings and wasn't interested in oil paintings—his previous interest was only because they were oil paintings that Akina Amaho had shown them.
At first, what interested me was nothing more than lifelike sketches and drawings.
But the painting in front of him made him subconsciously hold his breath.
In the scene, both boys slightly raised their heads, but Gong You's posture was that he put his hand to his mouth, as if he was holding something in his hand, while Gong You's posture was that he raised his hand high, tilted his head back, opened his mouth, as if waiting for something to fall.
He could tell at a glance that this was actually the scene of the two of them eating pudding that day, but because the pudding was deliberately erased, like leaving blank space, it added a sense of mystery to the painting.
Because the characters she portrays have serious and solemn expressions, as if they are swallowing something extremely important, or holding a unique power in their hands.
Moreover, they are depicted on the left and right sides of the painting, forming a large X shape, while their backs are pressed tightly together.
The boy with gold and silver hair looked completely different, yet they were perfectly symmetrical, which gave people a shocking feeling.
He stood in front of the painting, speechless for a moment. He couldn't find any words to praise it, and even racking his brains, he couldn't think of any words of praise. But he just... felt that the painting was very good, and that he liked it very much.
Another ten seconds or so passed, or perhaps a very long time, before he finally managed to find his voice again. He hadn't even noticed that Gong You had squeezed over to look for a while.
“This painting… is excellent, I really like it.” He turned to look at Akina Amaho.
Akina Amaho smiled reservedly.
She would naturally be happy to have her paintings recognized, but unfortunately, the two of them probably wouldn't understand the meaning behind it. But that doesn't matter.
The painting wasn't initially given any particular meaning; it was simply an impulse to capture that moment, an emotion that moved me at that instant.
It is only after being seen by others that different meanings are given to them, after all, everyone's perception of a painting is different, and everyone's comprehension is different.
Miya Yu: "This scene looks so familiar... Isn't it the lunch I had with Osamu that we ate pudding together before?"
He still vaguely remembered that action, since he had poured it directly into his mouth.
Akina Amane nodded: "Yes, because that scene left a deep impression on me."
Gong You looked at the painting a few more times, unsure how to express the turbulent feelings surging within him.
Ah—for the first time, I truly hate how badly I've learned Chinese literature.
So he stammered, "Ah... I like this too. Anyway, I think the visuals are very impressive."
Miyaji: "Yes, it doesn't show what we're eating, but rather it's as if... we're actually savoring something important with such serious expressions."
Both of them had very serious expressions.
Well, although they may not be able to fully grasp the meaning that Akina Amaho wanted to express, and they may not be able to fully understand the meaning of the painting, this is the real emotion they perceived.
From the paintings, one can feel the same passion that Akina Amaho has always possessed.
Akina Amane was taken aback. Ah, actually, she hadn't expected them, who lacked artistic talent, to offer any kind of evaluation.
However, they were truly and earnestly experiencing the painting and expressing their feelings very sincerely.
Her eyes were a little moist, and she smiled with her eyes slightly narrowed: "Alright, this painting is yours. You can put it wherever you want."
As she spoke, Akina Ama picked up a few sheets of drawing paper from the table next to her and handed them to Osamu: "This is the gift I promised to give Osamu."
Miyaji counted the number of paintings and looked at them. Among them were sketches that he had mentioned to Amaho Akina before. Apart from these, the total number of paintings was the same as the paintings that Miyayu had received.
He nodded: "Yes, I'll frame these and hang them up when I get back."
Akina Amane was a little embarrassed: "Ah, no need for that. I'm already happy that you like my paintings."
"It's getting late, you should leave quickly."
Gaining even a certain level of understanding is already quite difficult. Creators sometimes experience extreme pain when expressing their own emotions, because even if they do express them, they may still be misunderstood.
She waved to the twins as they walked toward the door and left, telling them to see them again tomorrow.
But even a little understanding would be enough to make her ecstatic for a long time.
She smiled, watching their backs through the window, and pulled up a picture of the Ferris wheel carriage under fireworks, deciding to capture it in her portrait.
Sure enough, I still really like them.
She gently pursed her lips, letting her rapid heartbeat resound in her chest.
