Chapter 118 Just a scare scare will do.

Grandma Wu paused slightly, then quickly moved to Huang Xiaoqiang's original spot without stopping.

The people behind him were still swearing. Huang Xiaoqiang licked his cheek with the tip of his tongue, lowered his eyes, and exchanged a glance with Old Lady Wu.

Just scare them a little.

"I understand, Mom, don't worry."

Their eyes met briefly before looking away. Huang Xiaoqiang, standing at 1.89 meters tall with the muscles he had developed in the countryside, looked like a small mountain as he walked.

A balding, bespectacled man behind them cursed for a long time, his spittle almost dried up, but there was no reaction from the man in front.

Just as a smile appeared on his lips, a tall, shrewish figure suddenly stood in front of him, his smug eyes behind his glasses freezing in shock.

Looking around, he realized that he had been the one talking the whole time, and no one had agreed with him.

'Gurgle!'

"What... what do you want to do...?"

Huang Xiaoqiang puffed out his chest, didn't even lower his head, and looked directly at him with his nostrils down.

"Weren't you just yelling away? Keep yelling! Why did you stop?"

"I...I didn't swear..." She quickly glanced at the people in front of and behind her, her mouth opening and closing a few times. "Besides, I didn't swear...I was just trying to kindly remind everyone that there are so many people here, and you cutting in line is bad for everyone..."

Ha, you dare to do it but not admit it?

Huang Xiaoqiang raised his hand and gently patted his shoulder, rubbing it a few times considerately. "Really? I must have misheard. You should probably stop with this well-intentioned reminder, don't you think?"

The bespectacled man grimaced and tried to pull his shoulder away, but the hand on his shoulder was like an iron claw, gripping him tightly and he couldn't break free no matter what he did.

"Yes, yes, you are right."

"Oh, right," Huang Xiaoqiang said slowly, "Also, we didn't cut in line. I was standing there in place of others. The line was just the right size to begin with. It didn't get shorter because I left, nor did it get longer because someone else came in."

"You tell me, is this what you call cutting in line?"

"No, don't."

Huang Xiaoqiang scoffed, withdrew his hand, and glanced disdainfully at the bespectacled man who was sweating profusely despite the freezing weather.

This kind of person is very good at judging people based on their character. If it were Gu Qing or her mother, he would be even more arrogant than he was just now.

However, if he dares to spout nonsense in front of Old Lady Wu, his face will definitely look quite colorful today.

Without lifting a finger, just by talking, he solved a troublesome problem. Huang Xiaoqiang returned to Grandma Wu's side with a smile in his eyes.

"Mom, I'm alright, right?"

His eyes were full of self-satisfaction at what had just happened.

Grandma Wu nodded in approval, "Not bad, very good."

What happened later didn't affect the people in front at all, since they weren't talking loudly. By the time Huang Mancang finished dealing with the matter, it was Gu Qing's turn to write a letter and receive a package.

She was right; her parents sent her a huge package, almost half her height.

The staff compared her to the package and kindly asked her if she had any companions with her.

Gu Qing pointed to Old Lady Wu and Huang Xiaoqiang.

The staff member nodded and pushed the package out the door for her.

Huang Xiaoqiang simply picked him up and carried him on his back. This sight made the bespectacled man behind him tremble. His eyes darted around, and he abandoned his business, turning around and leaving immediately.

The two walked to an open space and stood there, waiting for Old Lady Wu while reading the letter that had been sent along with the package.

Gu Qing carefully opened the envelope and read it aloud word by word. Huang Xiaoqiang considerately turned his head away and did not read it with her.

After all, it was a family letter, a private item. Huang Xiaoqiang put his hands in his pockets, turned halfway around, and his handsome profile was half-hidden in his scarf.

Now, no matter how handsome Huang Xiaoqiang was, Gu Qing couldn't care less about looking at him. After reading the last line, her lips trembled slightly, and her face turned pale.

After waiting for a while and still not hearing any sound, he turned around and saw Gu Qing with tears streaming down her face, which startled him.

What's wrong with you?

Did your parents scold you in the letter?

Gu Qing shook her head.

Huang Xiaoqiang guessed again, "They...had something happen to them...?"

When she didn't shake her head, my heart skipped a beat; something really had happened.

He had just guessed, based on the message that Director Jia's wife had recently sent to his mother, and it turned out to be true.

Gu Qing's face turned pale, her eyes filled with panic. "What, what do we do? They've all been, been sent down to the countryside, and..." She paused slightly, suppressing her inner turmoil, "...to the Northeast."

"How are they going to survive this...?"

Unlike Uncle Mancang, who had Aunt Wu and others to take care of him, the village secretary was also a good person who was neither harsh nor abusive and treated him like a normal villager.

Touching the bundle beside her, she finally couldn't hold back her tears. This was all her parents had prepared for her before they sensed something was about to happen; it was practically all their belongings.

Seeing her cry, Huang Xiaoqiang was at a loss and quickly turned his gaze to Old Lady Wu.

Fortunately, she was quick; she sent the items and the letter and everything was fine, although writing the letter took some time.

"What's wrong with that?"

Seeing Gu Qing crying uncontrollably while Huang Xiaoqiang looked completely lost, Old Mrs. Wu frowned and asked, "Did you bully her?"

Gu Qing shook her head, while Huang Xiaoqiang cried out that he was innocent.

After leaning closer and telling Gu Qing about her family situation, Old Mrs. Wu sighed inwardly.

"Aunt Wu, what should we do? Is there any way to bring my parents over as well?"

As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt speechless and cried even harder. Judging from the time the envelope was sent, it was probably too late to say anything now.

Grandma Wu sighed and said, "Now that things are settled, you might as well prepare some things and mail them to them."

After saying that, I found it funny myself. What's wrong with me today? I'm just saying such mindless things.

How could people sent to labor camps possibly receive packages? Even if they did, what would be left in their hands?

"Forget it, it's almost Chinese New Year. After the New Year, why don't you ask the village secretary if he can give you a letter of introduction so you can go to the Northeast to see them?"

Gu Qing wiped away her tears and nodded. This was the best solution now.

I came here today in high spirits to buy New Year's goods, but now I'm unhappy because of my own actions.

Gu Qing felt a little guilty. "Aunt Wu, you and Brother Huang go for a stroll. I'll wait for you on the tractor."

She's not in the mood to shop anymore.

Huang Xiaoqiang looked at Old Lady Wu, then at her again, and finally decided to follow her.

Gu Qing replied that with Tie Niu on the tractor, nothing would happen.

"Let Xiaoqiang help you carry the package over first, I'll wait for him here."

Gu Qing nodded and followed behind Huang Xiaoqiang.

Grandma Wu shook her head and sighed again. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a picture of a baby snake hanging on the wall. Realizing it was the New Year, she quickly covered her mouth and spat several times.
