Yu Meixia patted Old Lady Wu's hand and sighed, "That's right."
"We've lived in the same compound for so many years, everyone knows about your husband's affairs outside."
"You know?" Old Mrs. Wu looked at her in surprise, then thought for a moment, shook her head with a wry smile, "Yes, who could I possibly hide this from?"
“Although your salary isn’t low, it can’t keep up with Huang Mancang’s reckless spending. Now you’re so in debt, and the children at home are no match for you. The burden of the whole family is now on your shoulders…”
They're all from the same factory; I don't know much about them, but I can still catch a glimpse of what's going on.
Hearing this, everyone sighed and looked at Old Lady Wu with sympathy. Before they could say anything, they saw Yu Meixia take Old Lady Wu's hand, revealing a dark purple bruise on her wrist, and they were immediately shocked.
"This? What is this?"
Grandma Wu looked down and was stunned. She blinked before she came to her senses and subconsciously rolled up her sleeve to cover the wound.
To those surrounding her, this action appeared as Old Lady Wu covering up Huang Mancang's embarrassment.
Thinking back to what Zhou Pandi just said, that the injuries on the Huang family father and son were caused by Old Lady Wu, isn't that ridiculous?
Does anyone know if it was someone collecting debts who made the attack?
A moment of silence fell over the surroundings, then a furious voice suddenly rang out, "Team Leader Wu, don't be afraid. If your man attacks you again, we'll go to the Women's Federation and seek justice for the suffering women."
The female workers watching seemed to awaken from their reverie and began to loudly echo their sentiments.
Grandma Wu smiled slightly, her eyes filled with tears, "Thank you, thank you everyone."
Yu Meixia also wiped her eyes with her sleeve, and couldn't help but sigh when she thought of Wu's lazy and good-for-nothing son.
How old are you? You've already married a wife, and you still expect your old mother to earn money to support the family?
If this were her son, she'd break his legs; they're so spoiled.
After everyone reassured Old Lady Wu to relax, they all left to go to work as it was getting late.
As the chattering sounds around her gradually faded away, Old Mrs. Wu felt a sense of loss.
Perhaps I was lonely and neglected for too long in my past life, but in this life I feel a slight joy and pleasure in being in such a noisy and extraordinary scene.
Seeing that Mingxia was covered in wounds but could still smile, Yu Meixia pursed her lips and said, "Mingxia, you see, no matter how much Zhou Pandi slanders you, everyone still believes in you."
Grandma Wu suddenly lowered her head and sighed, "Meixia, people..."
"Stop!" Yu Meixia poked her with a hint of exasperation. "I know, you're going to say again that you're the one who hit him."
Grandma Wu nodded, and Yu Meixia was completely speechless. She looked Grandma Wu up and down with a strange expression. She wasn't stupid or dull, so why was she so devoted to someone like Huang Mancang?
They still defended him in every way. Well, if it weren't for that, the Women's Federation would have come to Huang Mancang's door to talk to him long ago.
Yu Meixia patted her shoulder earnestly, "Mingxia, it's not wrong to love your husband, but... but?"
But after a while, Yu Meixia shut up. "Forget it," she thought, "it's not clear in a few words anyway. Let's take it slow."
The atmosphere in the textile factory was great; apart from the occasional resentful glare directed at my back, I adapted very well.
Decades later, Old Lady Wu was still a bit naive at first. To onlookers, they couldn't help but shake their heads inwardly. Huang Mancang was really outrageous. Look at how badly he beat people.
When you get back, you should have a good talk with their men about what kind of bad habit they have.
As Wu gradually got the hang of things, she was unaware that others were already starting to dislike Huang Mancang because of her.
The day passed quickly in the factory. As Grandma Wu walked out of the factory gate, the pale orange sunlight slanted across the ground and climbed up her trouser legs, swaying back and forth.
Passing by the recycling station, Old Mrs. Wu had a sudden thought and turned to go inside.
Upon entering the gate, there are two small houses on the left. The windows, about the size of a washbasin, are embedded in the mud walls. The faint light from the tungsten filaments shines on the window paper, and sounds can be faintly heard from inside.
Old Mrs. Wu cleared her throat and called inside, "Is anyone home?"
"Choose whatever you want!"
A loud sound came from the house. Old Mrs. Wu shrugged and stepped inside.
After passing through the narrow path, the view suddenly widens, and all kinds of waste fill the yard. The first things that catch the eye are all kinds of books, as well as porcelain, wooden boards and furniture.
Old Mrs. Wu glanced at them briefly, walked straight to the planks, casually picked two planks that were two feet wide, and turned to leave.
When it was time to settle the bill, an elderly man with gray hair, hunched over, lifted the curtain and came out.
Pointing to the two dusty wooden planks on the ground, he asked Old Lady Wu, puzzled, "These are the wooden planks?"
"yes."
Hearing Grandma Wu's earnest answer, the old man's lips twitched. This was something he had piled up in the corner of the backyard wall to use for firewood in winter, but he never expected that Grandma Wu would actually pick it out.
The old man waved his hand dismissively, "Forget it, just take it. This broken plank isn't worth much."
Huh? Old Mrs. Wu paused in her act of reaching for her purse. No money?
"Then, I'll pick another one."
Finally, Old Lady Wu picked out a small mirror, and the old man asked for three cents and waved her away.
Seeing that it was getting late, Grandma Wu turned around, bought some vegetables, and then went home.
As soon as she entered the house, several pairs of dark eyes stared at her. Old Mrs. Wu frowned and said, "Why are you looking at me like that!"
Huang Mancang gave Old Lady Wu a fawning smile and hurriedly took the vegetables from her hands. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the wooden board tucked under her armpit and became somewhat curious.
"Why did you bring back two such big planks?"
Grandma Wu glanced at it casually and said indifferently, "Oh, this is your bed."
"Mine...mine!"
Huang Mancang opened his mouth, staring dumbfounded at the two wooden boards. What did she mean?
Is this a way of kicking him out?
Realizing this, Huang Mancang burst into tears and knelt down, grabbing Old Lady Wu's leg with lightning speed.
"Mingxia! Wife! You can't do this!"
The piercing screams traveled upwards and clearly reached Old Lady Wu's ears.
Old Mrs. Wu loosened her grip, and with two heavy thuds, the wooden board hit the ground, instantly silencing the unbearable noise.
Old Mrs. Wu lowered her head expressionlessly, staring straight at Huang Mancang. "If you howl again, I'll cut off your tongue!"
Huang Mancang suddenly covered his mouth, on the verge of tears, as he watched Old Lady Wu slowly straighten up and toss the vegetables in her hand to him.
"Go cook, I'm hungry."
Huang Mancang immediately stood up, grabbed the vegetable bag, opened the door, and disappeared outside in a flash.
Everyone still inside the house stared in disbelief. When did his mother-in-law become so ruthless?
Old Mrs. Wu's gaze slowly shifted to Huang Xiaoguo and Huang Xiaomin, startling the two brothers who trembled and stammered out a cry.
"mom......"
