Huang Xiaofu pushed the door open, squinted through a crack, and glanced around before he saw Old Lady Wu and Huang Mancang.
"Mom! I want revenge!"
Huang Mancang was stunned. "Report...revenge?"
Realizing what was happening, Huang Mancang's expression turned serious. "Oh, I see. You want to find someone to teach Miao Fengying a lesson, right? That won't do. No matter what, she's a girl. How can you find someone to beat her up?"
"You used to like her, but now that you don't, you get someone to beat her up. You have character issues!"
Huang Xiaofu said, "But she humiliated me, called me a poor wretch, and said I wasn't good enough for her, not even worthy of carrying her shoes!"
"But you can't just hire someone to beat you up, can you?"
"I didn't say I was going to hit her! Oh, Dad, what are you saying! I would never hire someone to teach her a lesson just because of a few harsh words."
Huang Xiaofu turned away, really, he forgot everything he was saying.
"You say you want revenge? Who are you going to take it from?"
Huang Xiaofu took a deep breath, "Qiao Zhenjun!"
Old Mrs. Wu understood perfectly well, but she didn't show it on her face. "Why would you want to see him for no reason? Do you think he's any better than you with his small frame?"
"He might not be able to beat me, but he knows how to get help. He said I was harassing his girlfriend and he's determined to teach me a lesson." Huang Xiaofu touched his cheek, which was swollen like a bun. "This is what happened because he hired people to beat me up. He knows how to get help, and so do I!"
Seeing his expression, Old Mrs. Wu's lips curled up slightly. "But, they didn't make a mistake."
"Mom? Do you want to hear what you have to say?" Huang Xiaofu asked incredulously.
Grandma Wu spread her hands. "Look, Miao Fengying and Qiao Zhenjun have already established a romantic relationship. If you continue to pursue her, wouldn't that be considered harassment?"
Huang Xiaofu hesitated, "Is...is that so?"
Grandma Wu nodded and continued, "Since you harassed someone's partner, what's wrong with them hiring someone to beat you up when they can't beat you up themselves?"
Huang Xiaofu was stunned. "That sounds like it..."
Huang Mancang looked away in disgust. This stupid son of his was unbearable to look at. Didn't he ever think about who had told him to pursue someone else's girlfriend in the first place?
"That lady is right!"
Huang Mancang and Huang Xiaofu peeked outside, and after seeing clearly, Huang Xiaofu, just like the aggressive attacker, bared his teeth and glared at the newcomer, "What are you doing here!"
Qiao Zhenjun dusted off his sleeves and slightly raised his chin. "I think your mother isn't completely senile; she's better than you, so I won't hold it against you."
"I'm here today to tell you that if you ever harass my girlfriend again, I'll get someone to... beat you up! Beat you until you're too scared to go looking for her again."
Huang Xiaofu looked ashamed and indignant, his fists clenched. Just as he was about to speak, Old Lady Wu stood in front of him. "Harassment? You two are dating normally, but you're not married. My good-for-nothing son likes your girlfriend, that's normal pursuit. How is that harassment?"
Huang Xiaofu was so moved that tears streamed down his face.
Qiao Zhenjun was taken aback. "But you just said..."
Grandma Wu turned to Huang Xiaofu behind her and asked, "Did you lay a hand on someone's boyfriend?"
"No."
"Did you hear that?" Old Mrs. Wu looked calmly at Qiao Zhenjun at the door. "He didn't lay a hand on me or make a move. What did he do to bother me?"
Qiao Zhenjun pursed his lips. "But he goes to see my girlfriend every few days, which causes her a lot of trouble."
"Oh? Really?"
Grandma Wu turned her head and asked, "What were you doing going to see someone's boyfriend?"
Huang Xiaofu lowered his head and said, "I just give her clothes and hair clips, food, and help her with chores."
"Did her boyfriend accept it?"
"I've received it."
A hint of disdain flashed in Old Mrs. Wu's eyes. What a useless piece of trash! Helping with chores, offering things, and still getting scolded? And he's still going after them? Her gaze shifted to Qiao Zhenjun. "Did you hear that?"
Qiao Zhenjun's face darkened. He stared at Old Lady Wu and Huang Xiaofu behind her for a few moments before turning and leaving.
Grandma Wu turned to look at Huang Xiaofu, her face amiable, "Are you going to pursue Miao Fengying now?"
"No... I'm not going to chase after them anymore..."
Grandma Wu sighed and disagreed, saying, "Didn't I tell you last time that you can't give up halfway through something? If you still like her, go after her."
"But, me, him."
"Boys are tough and resilient, what are you afraid of?"
Huang Xiaofu lowered his head in thought. Did he like it? Or did he not?
He suddenly saw Miao Fengying's sharp and stern face, her expression full of disgust and impatience towards him.
He was saddened by her appearance, but even the deepest affection couldn't withstand the test of time.
The lingering thoughts in his heart were stirred up again by Grandma Wu's words of encouragement.
"Okay... I'll try again."
Grandma Wu saw him off with a smile, and then closed the door.
Huang Mancang was a little confused. "They're already like this, and you're still trying to chase after them?"
"As long as they don't die, we have to chase them."
Huang Mancang cast a "good luck" look at Huang Xiaofu as he left through the window.
Poor thing, to have such a mother.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Old Mrs. Wu coming out of the inner room carrying a bag. "Where are you going?"
Grandma Wu glanced at him indifferently, "Where I go is none of your business."
Huang Mancang felt a surge of anger as he watched Wu Laotai leave. That old woman's temper was getting worse and worse.
She's completely different from before.
......
"Oh, how pitiful! Why would someone just jump into the lake?"
"Yes, he's a professor."
"You don't know, Professor Wu's house was ransacked a few days ago. It is said that a lot of feudal items and capitalist books were found. His wife was dragged to the old town for criticism and struggle sessions, and was eventually locked in a cowshed. She died a few days later."
"I think he's lost the will to live, that's why..."
Everyone sighed with regret, their words filled with sorrow for Professor Wu and his wife.
Suddenly, he shouted, "What? Are you feeling sorry for that reactionary?"
“I tell you, they deserved their fate. Any reactionary or capitalist behavior must be eradicated.”
After a sharp rebuke, the onlookers left with embarrassed expressions. They could feel sorry for others if this happened to them, but if it really happened to them, they would have nowhere to cry.
The man glanced around and saw everyone had left. Just as he was about to smugly curl his lips, he suddenly stopped, his brow furrowing. "Hey! I'm talking to you! Why aren't you leaving yet!"
Old Mrs. Wu stared in shock at the floating corpse in the lake, lingering there for a long time.
As the man approached, he noticed that Old Lady Wu showed no fear beyond shock on her face. He frowned and said, "What, aren't you leaving? Do you want to keep him company?"
"Help! Someone's trying to kill me! Help!"
Old Mrs. Wu's sudden shout startled the man. "Hey, you old lady, who's trying to kill you!"
"Don't talk nonsense."
