Chapter 23 Li Gong'an Presents a Banner

Huang Mancang had a miserable day and became invisible, turning into nothingness.

Grandma Wu, on the other hand, was greeted by people wherever she went.

As soon as she entered the factory, Zhou Pandi passed by her and snorted loudly, her eyelids almost popping out of her head.

Old Mrs. Wu's lips twitched. She was really afraid that the girl's eyes would roll back and become cross-eyed. She shook her head and left.

Seeing that no one reacted at all, Zhou Pan was so angry that her stomach felt like it was going to explode. The person with her saw her eyebrows raised and her eyes red with anger, and was a little at a loss for words.

"Look, they haven't even said anything, why are you getting so angry?"

Zhou Pandi glared at Old Lady Wu's retreating figure and said angrily, "She doesn't respect me at all!"

Those who heard this were speechless. You're not a team leader, a director, or a factory manager, so why would anyone take you seriously?

Moreover, Zhou Pandi had just gotten into a conflict with someone yesterday. Who could act as if nothing had happened the next day and even greet someone with a smile?

"It seems like you were the one who glared at Wu Mingxia first..."

Zhou Pan glanced at him, momentarily stunned.

Aside from Zhou Pandi, who's got a screw loose, everyone else along the way was perfectly normal.

After entering the workshop, Grandma Wu greeted her workshop director and then went to her workstation to start working.

The textile factory recently received a large order, and all the workshops are extremely busy.

If it weren't for the school teacher contacting him yesterday, Director Cui might not have granted him leave.

The morning passed in a flurry of activity, and around noon, the area outside the factory suddenly became lively.

Grandma Wu wasn't interested and was about to walk towards the canteen when she was surrounded by people as soon as she left the workshop.

Before she could react, a man in a police uniform, accompanied by their factory manager, walked towards her.

"Comrade Wu."

"Li Public Security?"

Grandma Wu asked curiously, "Why did you come here?"

Officer Li stretched out his hand to her, "Didn't I bring you this banner?"

Old Mrs. Wu's gaze lingered on his hand. "A banner?" A thought flashed through her mind, then she suddenly remembered something. "This..."

Officer Li smiled slightly, unfurled the banner, which read, "Willing to serve the people like an ox, with the people's well-being at heart, never shirking sorrow."

Two lines of large, golden characters instantly caught everyone's eye.

Zhou Pandi pushed through the crowd, glanced at the two lines of large characters, and landed on the smaller characters beside them: 'Presented by the Changping City Public Security Bureau on June 20, 1964: Wu Mingxia, who has worked tirelessly for the people.'

June 20th...that was yesterday!

The factory manager looked at Old Lady Wu with pride and admiration, a sight that pierced Zhou Pandi's eyes.

"That's impossible!"

A sharp voice instantly broke the lively atmosphere. When Grandma Wu looked up, she saw it was Zhou Pandi, which she was not surprised by.

A hint of displeasure flashed across the factory manager's face, and Officer Li's expression darkened even more. "This lady, are you implying that our police station's actions are illegal or irregular?"

Zhou Pan glanced down at her companion and quietly pulled her aside, "Don't say anything!"

"I'll say it anyway!" Zhou Pandi's temper flared up, and she found fault with everyone.

"Wu Mingxia went out yesterday to ask for leave to go to her son's school. What could that have to do with the Public Security Bureau? There's clearly something fishy going on here!"

Even Old Lady Wu now had to admire Zhou Pandi. The factory director and Officer Li's faces were so black they could burn coal. She couldn't help but shake her head inwardly.

Seeing that something was wrong, Director Ma, who had been following behind the factory manager, quickly stepped forward and pulled Zhou Pandi away.

Who knew that the tiger woman's heels seemed to be glued to the ground, and no matter what they did, they couldn't pull her away. They quickly gave her a look to the other people in the workshop, and together they managed to drag her away.

The factory director breathed a sigh of relief and smiled as he looked at Officer Li and Old Lady Wu beside him. "Today, we are very grateful to Officer Li for personally delivering this banner. Comrade Wu Mingxia has always been diligent in our factory and is never stingy when it comes to helping anyone in need."

Police Officer Li, being astute, followed the factory director's lead, saying, "Factory Director Li is right."

The two of them flattered each other in front of Old Mrs. Wu, praising her the most, which made her face flush.

After seeing Officer Li off, the factory director, a high-ranking official, stared longingly at the banner in her hand. Old Mrs. Wu's eye twitched, and she earnestly said to him...

"This is not just my personal honor, but also the honor of the entire textile factory as a member of the factory."

He then handed him the banner, saying, "Please accept this honor, Director Jia."

Factory Director Jia couldn't help but nod in approval. Wu Mingxia had a high level of awareness, unlike the one before who almost ruined the textile factory's reputation.

He nodded to her with satisfaction, but did not accept the banner as he turned to leave.

Just kidding, this is signed for Wu Mingxia, and he's begging for it. What kind of behavior is that? Anyone who didn't know better would think that this factory manager is intolerant of others.

The textile factory's top leader left, and the remaining workers instantly erupted in excitement, surrounding Old Lady Wu.

"Mingxia, what did you do for the police that they actually sent someone to your factory to present you with a banner of appreciation?"

Grandma Wu smiled but didn't say anything. This concerned that little girl Huang Haiyan and her youngest son, so of course she couldn't tell the truth.

It's fine for Huang Xiaoqiang, a grown man, to be talked about, but it's unacceptable for Huang Haiyan, a young woman.

Besides, she herself had been dragged into the story, a middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties being targeted by a young man old enough to be her son, who even attempted to take advantage of her. If word got out, wouldn't people laugh their heads off?

No, you absolutely must not say it.

"It's nothing, I just helped out with a small favor."

She wouldn't say anything more.

For the entire afternoon, Old Lady Wu stayed in the workshop and refused to go out, working diligently.

When Director Jia, who was inspecting the work, passed by and saw her, he nodded slightly. The clerk beside him noticed this and spoke with great admiration for Old Lady Wu.

Factory Director Jia seemed to be deep in thought before walking towards the next workshop.

When it was time to leave work, Grandma Wu rushed out of the factory gate first and breathed a sigh of relief.

They were just too enthusiastic; she couldn't handle it.

Decades later, being commended by government agencies is still exciting, let alone now.

On her way home, Grandma Wu ran into Huang Xiaoqiang standing at the intersection and paused, asking, "Aren't you going home? What are you doing standing here?"

Huang Xiaoqiang scratched his head sheepishly, "My time after school coincides with your time after get off work, so I was thinking of waiting for Mom to go home together."

Grandma Wu nodded without saying anything and took him to the East City Market to buy groceries.

Then they went to the supply and marketing cooperative. When Grandma Wu took a fancy to a thermos, she handed the ticket and money to the salesperson and casually asked Huang Xiaoqiang what he wanted to buy.

After waiting for a while without hearing any sound, the sales clerks all looked impatient. When Grandma Wu turned her head, she saw that Huang Xiaoqiang's eyes were red and there was a suspicious drop of liquid hanging under his nose.

Upon seeing clearly, Old Mrs. Wu's lips twitched, and even the saleswoman's face froze. She couldn't help but panic. She hadn't said anything, so why was she crying for no reason?
