Chapter 24 Treat

He went to work happily and asked Liu Hua on the way. Liu Hua thought about it and said, "In that case, we have to invite Zhang Yuan and the others as well. Why not just invite them together?"

Then he called the four male comrades over and told them what had happened.

"I have this plan. I've really troubled them with their help these past few days. It's a good opportunity for us to move while we're all here. Li Xiao and the others aren't living in a dorm, so we can just move in and it won't cause any disturbance."

Xu Manman nodded, looked at Liu Hua and said, "That's fine, but Liu Hua and I will sleep in the big bunk, so we can bring some snacks for the three of them separately when the time comes."

Liu Hua had no objection, "But it's a treat, and I haven't prepared anything here."

Xu Manman waved her hand and said, "I have a piece of bacon here that my mother sent me some time ago. Since we are so close, there is no need to talk about what is yours and what is mine. Let's go to the commune some other day and treat me to a meal at the state-owned restaurant."

Everyone looked at Xu Manman and smiled. Liu Hua hugged Xu Manman's arm and said, "Okay, let's eat Manman's food today."

"Okay, okay, I'm going to be late for work."

Before lunch, Xu Manman put aside the conversation and took out a whole piece of bacon, three fingers wide, on behalf of the new educated youth.

The old educated youth were all delighted. Li Mao observed their expressions and, without any hesitation or pushback, thanked the new educated youth and took the food directly. They were really short of oil and water. Meat was rare, not only in the countryside but even in the city. These new educated youth were really considerate. Last time it was fine grains, and this time it was such a large piece of bacon. Although he hadn't intended to take advantage of them, it was still a pleasure to have meat.

Li Mao put down the bacon and ran out to notify the remaining three people one by one without even having time to eat. Even Zhou Ping, who usually kept to himself, did not refuse and offered to bring his own food in the evening.

The remaining old educated youth looked at the bacon placed aside and felt that the wild vegetable buns in their hands had a meaty taste. They all unanimously decided that Liu Li, who had the best cooking skills, would be the chef that night.

Xu Manman didn't sleep at noon. She moved the remaining luggage back to the room and started packing.

All the furniture that was moved in before was placed in place as soon as we moved in, except for the kang which cannot be placed temporarily.

Today's main task is to clean the kang. Xu Manman first laid two layers of newspapers and a layer of straw mat on the kang. Two wooden boxes were placed side by side on the side of the fire wall, more than one meter away from the fire wall, which was equivalent to dividing the kang into two sides. Fortunately, the kang was built to be 2 meters wide when it was first built. With Xu Manman's height of 160 cm, it is very comfortable for her to sleep sideways.

The empty space was covered with a cool mat and a kang table. Xu Manman didn't like to move around on the bed except for sleeping, as she was a bit of a germaphobe, so this could be used as a place for eating and relaxing. She could put some pillows and cushions there to make sitting more comfortable.

The desk is next to the kang, under the window, where the light is best. This is where I study and write seriously.

The wardrobe is opposite the kang, and the cupboards and other things are placed on the side near the stove.

In the corner of the outer room near the stove, there is a large water tank and a washbasin next to it.

There were a few small jars placed against the wall on the other side, and Xu Manman planned to use them to pickle sauerkraut and pickles.

After cleaning everything and making the bedding, the whole afternoon was over.

Everyone went to work happily in the afternoon, looking forward to the meal in the evening.

In the evening, Liu Li did not disappoint everyone's expectations. She made three dishes with bacon alone, including bacon stewed with potatoes and green beans, fried bacon with garlic sprouts, bacon stewed with vermicelli, and a pot of stir-fried cabbage. It was probably because of the oil made from the bacon, so it tasted very fragrant and delicious.

No one talked much in the evening, everyone just focused on eating.

Xu Manman touched her bloated belly. She used to think it was normal to eat too much. She preferred vegetables to meat anyway. But after munching on wild vegetable buns these past few days, she still wanted oil and water. If she continued eating like this, she would be constipated.

However, meat dishes will only be cooked in the space from now on. Everyone lives too close, and the smell of cooking is too strong. It's not good to eat meat in front of others every day. If you do that, you will be hated. It's already very conspicuous now, so it's better to keep a low profile.
